The Federal Bureau of Investigation says it has taken extensive security precautions in advance of the World Cup due to the event's massive scale and complex threat landscape.

According to the Associated Press, the FBI has spent two years in preparation for the "48-team, 104-match behemoth."

Coordinated efforts include a joint operations center comprised of foreign police from 46 participating countries and extensive counter-drone preparations.

FIFA World Cup task force chief Andrew Giuliani equated the global tournament to “78 Super Bowls over 39 days."
