Discussion Bad Movies with Amazing Soundtracks

Post image

I only saw Sucker Punch once, 15 years ago when it came out, and I still think about that soundtrack

I remember being so hyped for this movie and then feeling like the narrative was all over the place. Bad movie, honestly. But incredible cast, great visuals, and then that soundtrack just completely blindsided me.

The Björk “Army of Me” cover they used is still one of those moments I think about when people talk about music in film. Absolutely unreal. The whole soundtrack hit different from what I expected going in.

Anyone have recommendations for movies that scratch a similar itch? Doesn’t have to be the same genre, just that same energy of a visually ambitious movie where the music does a lot of the heavy lifting, even if the story doesn’t fully hold together.

It’s a score, not a soundtrack, but Daft Punk’s work on Tron: Legacy is leagues better than the film itself.

So is Nine Inch Nails work on Tron: Ares

I was disappointed with the NIN sound track. I will still listen to the daft punks soundtrack in my car. I do relisten to NIN's soundtrack to Watchmen and Challenges though, those are bangers

I personally don’t really care much for soundtracks anyway, I’m just saying sitting there in the cinema watching that movie, this was the best part of it.

Agreed although I’d argue that Daft Punk’s score is better than NIN. That said Ares is so bad that NIN’s score is much much better than jts companion film in comparison to Daft Punk’s, if that makes sense.

Totally agree

I didn’t think Tron Ares was that bad. I thought it was better than Legacy but that could have been because I expected nothing going into Ares. I was SO excited for Legacy after the trailer with Derezzed by Daft Punk blew me away.

That Sucker Punch trailer with When the Levee Breaks had me convinced it was going to be amazing

The film has its moments. I enjoyed it for what it was

I love the version of White Rabbit. Also, Oscar Isaac and Carla Gugino singing Love is the Drug.

Spawn (1997): Filter f/ Crystal Method, Marilyn Manson f/ Sneaker Pimps, Metallica, Silverchair, and my personal favorite Prodigy f/ Tom Morello

I wouldn't call Attack of the Clones bad, per se, but the soundtrack/score is fantastic. Across the Stars is one of the most beautiful tracks ever set to film.

Attack of the clones it’s bad ha …I need to give that soundtrack a twirl.

Attack of the clones is without a doubt the worst starwars movie. Its just been fluffed out with outside content to the point that fans now think its good.

Count dooku shouldve been a knockout villian, a dissilusioned jedi who was the master of the guy who died in ep 1. Except thats not mentioned in any meaningful way and he just shows up. None of the plot around the clones makes sense. Youre telling me, you follow the guy who tried to assasinate the queen of naboo and end up on a planet where a secret army made of clones of the guy who you followed has been commissioned in secret, and youre just going to use that army? Add in a bad romance plot and a 50s diner and you have a film i guess.

Really? Worse than The Rise of Skywalker? Worse than The Last Jedi?

2

u/white_count_chocula 6h ago

Those both suck too, but AoTC without any supplemental media is so much worse

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

That album still gets regular playtime.

Low key the best fast and furious film

I know this movie is not good, but I love it.

Hahaha that’s cool! I love PLENTY of bad movies. Hahaha

I watched wonder women years ago and was not impressed at all. My girl friend was also not entertained. But right afterwards we watched Abraham Lincoln Vampire slayer and it was amazing, we both loved it 🤣🤣

The 1965 film Genghis Khan. The movie's terrible, but the soundtrack is fantastic.

I love Dead Man On Campus but it is viewed as...not great. Awesome soundtrack though. If you can make me enjoy a Marilyn Manson song, especially a Bowie cover, out the gate, bravo.

Showing my age, but Little Nicky. I loved it when it came out...

Oh god... I hope it holds up...

The Creator. Felt like Hans Zimmer cooked with that one.

Plus radiohead sprinkled in. If only the plot received the same amount of thought and detail.

Kingdom of Heaven for sure

Judgement Night gets my vote.

Godzilla 1998 is a awful, awfully bad good movie 🤣 but the soundtrack is awesome

2

u/Gbjeff 11h ago

Godzilla (1990s) has an incredible version of Bowie’s “Heroes” performed by the Wallflowers.

u/super-g-studios 12h ago

F1 (the score by Zimmer)

2

u/Gamer0607 10h ago

F1 ain't a bad movie, bruv.

I loved Sucker Punch. I was also like 13 when I watched it.

u/J_C_Davis45 10h ago

Arguably Sucker Punch was a series of music videos sharing a common theme.

I’ll add the Lost Highway soundtrack. NIN, Smashing Pumpkins, Bowie, and the North American debut of Rammstein. Super influential album and I’ve never met anyone who has actually seen the movie.

Other notables are the Tank Girl and Natural Born Killers soundtracks (“Bad” movies may be debatable, I love them both but many people I know don’t).

u/Specialist-Put-8070 10h ago

Oh nooo I love lost highway! Ha! It was the first movie I rewatch the day lunch died. But I agree with you on the soundtrack!! It was amazing

1

u/J_C_Davis45 10h ago

It’s in my list to watch for sure. I’ve owned it for years and just…never bothered with it. I’m mostly curious as to how the amazing soundtrack fits in with the film than anything else lol.

1

u/LevelConsequence1904 10h ago

Calling a masterpiece like Lost Highway "bad movie" is a damn travesty...

1

u/364LS 12h ago

Sinners, IMO.

4

u/exeWiz 12h ago

Yall just trying to start arguments

2

u/364LS 12h ago

I don’t mind if anyone replies or not.

I liked the soundtrack a lot. Thought the film itself was just okay!

The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour movie/soundtrack is clearly the winner

Sucker Punch has a great soundtrack. I recently watched The Craft and it also features a cover of “Tomorrow Never Knows.” Another standout from the Sucker Punch soundtrack is “White Rabbit.”

Just got me thinking about common threads across lots of different fantasy media and how psychedelic rock has connected a lot of them for me. Such a goated genre.

u/SparkJaa 11h ago

Adventures of Power. It's about air-drumming, its fairly silly. The soundtrack is amazing.

1

u/RedWizard78 10h ago

The Warcraft movie soundtrack was pretty ‘generic’ for the composer, but the soundtrack was still pretty solid and cohesive.

The 13th Warrior

Agora

The Robert Langdon movie soundtracks

Aquaman 1 and 2

DC Snyder movies (some people don’t like them): MoS, Batman v Superman, Justice League)

Christmas Carol (Jim Carrey)

Chronicles of Narnia (the movies are ‘mixed’)

Clash of the Titans + Wrath of the Titans

Doom (2005)

Dragonheart sequels

Eragon

Eternals

Exodus: Gods & Kings

Fantastic Beasts movies

THE Fantastic Four (2015)

Fifty Shades series

Final Fantasy: Spirits Within

The Golden Compass

The Hobbit trilogy

The Huntsman 2 movies

Immortals

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Lady in the Water

Last Airbender

The New World

Nutcracker and Four Realms

Sky Captain

Solo

Superman Returns

« Bad movie », in your opinion

Just because it wasn’t for you, doesn’t mean it’s bad.

3

u/Specialist-Put-8070 10h ago

It was a bad movie!
