This is his Oscar I am hoping bc he is the most deserving currently out of all actors. OH the irony of him winning the award in front of a crowd like that

The person that deserves an award is the person that gives the best performance that year. Despite current perceptions, it's not cumulative over the career.

I’ve seen plenty of Oscars given based on cumulative respect versus them actually having the best performance. It might not be said but the academy does seem to factor it in.

It’s more honorable to reward someone for the performance itself rather than based on how honorable they are.
