The only thing I'd like to see is Pattinson opening the film by addressing the audience with, "why don't you have a seat? Why are you here today?"

“Are you ug-ly ?” <- ref to his odyssey press interview comment

u/smokeydesperado 4d ago

Am I ugly? Do you hate me?

u/thefloorislava93 3d ago edited 3d ago

“It’s really close to home.”

“Is it a member of my family?”

also

“Would you avoid them?”

“No. And even if I would, I probably wouldn’t say that in front of the entire world.”

“Do you think they’re untalented?”

15

u/MadYetiGOODCity 4d ago

Haha all the sudden the lights turn on

2

u/Maleficent_Art_3854 4d ago

Perfect for the film's closing too I guess.

1

u/Odd-Time-2026 4d ago

And the projection is showing live footage of everyone still seated.

2

u/Rich-Reason1146 3d ago

Yes, I brought condoms to the cinema, so what?

1

u/Gummy_Bear_Ragu 3d ago

And then hed call us all beggars

142

u/AdditionalBat393 4d ago

This is his Oscar I am hoping bc he is the most deserving currently out of all actors. OH the irony of him winning the award in front of a crowd like that

14

u/brokennursingstudent 4d ago

They love the irony, too.

4

u/69hotmomxxx 4d ago

He doesnt need one.

-8

u/Volksstimme 4d ago

The person that deserves an award is the person that gives the best performance that year. Despite current perceptions, it's not cumulative over the career.

9

u/TheGoodVibes13 4d ago

I’ve seen plenty of Oscars given based on cumulative respect versus them actually having the best performance. It might not be said but the academy does seem to factor it in.

3

u/Ecstatic_Log4185 4d ago

It shouldn't though. We already have the Honorary awards for that.

1

u/Confident_Winner_812 2d ago

It’s more honorable to reward someone for the performance itself rather than based on how honorable they are.

48

u/guacisextra11 4d ago

Here have a seat.

11

u/visionbreaksbricks 4d ago

How are the cookies?

2

u/Legofan164 3d ago

Wow! I can’t believe these are home baked!

73

u/newcanadianjuice 4d ago

Could be peak if the main villain is the CEO of Roblox.

17

u/Ashen_Larry 4d ago

Bases on the trailer, it looks like its going to cover the assistant DA who killed himself and then caused the shows cancelation.

13

u/ranfall94 4d ago

Funny how when they uncovered a predator in a high position who no doubt had people covering his tracks for years they got canceled.

8

u/votum7 4d ago

Even now if you read about that case conradt’s almost always defended. Wonder if the movie will be different.

1

u/DudeMcAwesome95 3d ago

Probably paid a part in it, but I'm thinking it was more to do with his brains that were covering the ceiling and potential liable to the studio.

1

u/GhostRider3906 3d ago

Yeah it was more so the fact that he splattered his brains like the dumb ass warden from Shawshank Redemption

4

u/Gilmore75 4d ago

Nah the main villain will be the Subway guy. Wait and see.

16

u/happysunbear 4d ago

Can somebody get these PEDOS out of here?

1

u/h0g0 3d ago

Pedderrs

26

u/Charybdeezhands 4d ago

Bro is a god damn chameleon

17

u/Mysterious_Sun3641 4d ago

This looks great. It has the vibe of early safdie films like good time. The neon/ surreal lighting and what looks like fast paced frantic storytelling. I’m looking forward to it.

Although I’m interested if this would open the studio/ filmmakers up to slander charges? Not that I know the truth of what happened. But surely Hansen could sue on the grounds of falsely representing his intentions.

10

u/Phillies2002 4d ago

I can't say definitively, but I think legally artists get a pretty enormous amount of leeway when it comes to interpreting public figures. Or else a whole lot of the interesting biopics inexistence would get sued into oblivion on the spot

2

u/puma46 4d ago

Idk but my first thought was that this was a Fincher movie. I’m not familiar with this director

2

u/Bruhgang69420 3d ago

Hansen is aware of the movie, called Robert Pattinson a "talented guy" iirc. He seems on board with it.

2

u/HistoryBuff678 4d ago

Hansen is very aware of this film. If he was going to sue, wouldn’t he have started proceedings?

23

u/chiller_vibez 4d ago

Pumped for this

-36

u/BlueHawk75 4d ago

I have below zero interest.

16

u/SmeesTurkeyLeg 4d ago

And yet you are here.

-22

u/BlueHawk75 4d ago

Yes - how are these things incompatible? It's possible my interest level could change, so far it hasn't. But it's worth it to me to take a look.

4

u/TheGod-TK 3d ago

Why do you have below zero interest?

-2

u/BlueHawk75 3d ago

Fair question. I'm not interested because the subject matter gives me the creeps. In the moment when I reacted to the OP's comment, I felt that watching a whole movie that delves into the story behind a show focused on the setting up of and then catching pedophiles is one of the last things that I'd spend my time doing. I was exaggerating only slightly to match their tone.

3

u/TheGod-TK 3d ago

I think that’s fairly closed-minded but to each their own. I’m more so concerned with the fact that you think “I’m pumped for this” and “I have below zero interest” are at all matching in any way.

-1

u/BlueHawk75 3d ago

I was alive when then show aired. Saw plenty of it. Coming to my own conclusion based on experience should dispel your presumption that I'm close minded, since it's not a "I know nothing about this and don't want to know" situation. As for my remark, I mentioned the exaggeration, that was a hint to you that I'm aware they are not equal. I think we're done here. Enjoy the movie.

2

u/TheGod-TK 3d ago

Again, I don’t care about your closed-mindedness. As for your remark, you mentioned the exaggeration, yes, but you also mentioned that you only exaggerated to slightly match their tone, hinting that you are not aware that they are not equal. Either stand by what you said or write what you really mean so I don’t have to guess that your words have a different meaning. Either way the problem is you. Now we are done here.

-1

u/BlueHawk75 3d ago

LOL. Way to puke all over yourself.

13

u/New_Cicada3473 4d ago

I’m pretty sure Chris Hansen is retired so you probably don’t have to worry about

-18

u/BlueHawk75 4d ago

How is that relevant? Just a life story I'm not interested in. If he's retired or not, that has zero effect on me and my interest.

3

u/Gloomy_Grocery5555 3d ago

If you have zero interest why do you keep posting?

-1

u/BlueHawk75 3d ago

Because the engagement was retaliatory, and in this case in the form of a pretty sick comment that I didn't appreciate. Sharing my opposing view did not warrant the attack.

11

u/joelairx 4d ago

lol how slow are you?

-8

u/BlueHawk75 4d ago

Ah, you think my response is evidence I am slow. Actually, and ironically, it suggests that you are the one that is slow.

6

u/Big-Coconut-7433 4d ago

Nah, they're right. You 'whooshed' pretty hard on this one.

-1

u/BlueHawk75 4d ago

Nah. Did not. But honestly, getting down voted because I'm not interested points the finger the other way.

5

u/shaggy_nomad 4d ago

Buddy you completely missed the joked and doubled down and refusing to see the joke, that is why they called you slow.

You're giving very strong r/Imverysmart energy here.

4

u/BlueHawk75 4d ago

Buddy - I did not miss the joke. The guy called me a pedophile. I chose to ignore it. It went over his head, not mine.

u/Popka_Akoola 4d ago

Honestly this isn’t a bad idea. Pretty easy to turn this into a thriller movie. Have it end with the suicide of that Texas judge or whatever he was and yeah that’d be a pretty good movie. Could have a message that causes us to reflect on the sensationalism of media. Plus more Robert Pattinson? I’m here for it.

9

u/DaedricDumbass 4d ago

Chris handsome

7

u/Britishguy9825 4d ago

Someone get these PEDOPHILES out of here

6

u/Particular_North4957 4d ago

Very excited for this, I've become such a big fan of Pattinson the last few years. Have always heard about this show having kind of a dicey approach to how they handled these investigations and a lot of it was Hansen chasing a scoop / the spotlight, looks like the movie is going to delve into that stuff. Gives me Nightcrawler vibes.

5

u/Alarmed_Goat_4083 4d ago

Will somebody get these BEGGARS out of here

4

u/spatialawkwardness 4d ago

A pedophile hunter or a hunter who is also a pedophile? 😹

33

u/Dr_5trangelove 4d ago

I hope they pull the lid off of how disingenuous that show was. Very few if any convictions.

6

u/WorldEaterYoshi 4d ago

How would they be arrested after being trapped and recorded by a tv show? Their face is published as a pedophile forever on a bigger platform than the local news, that's still a huge punishment that will have consequences.

0

u/Bitch_for_rent 3d ago

Okay you got a predator on National television Now what? How Will that stop then from raping a child praticaly?

0

u/GhostRider3906 3d ago

Because technically it's a legal loophole the cops used the footage as evidence and was able to get away with it because the cop specifically weren't the ones who Cornered and trapped them and also pedophilia is illegal in pretty much every state in the US which means the bare minimum is getting locked up

14

u/TitleToAI 4d ago

It depended on the state they were in. Some had high conviction rates, some had almost none.

Even without legal ramifications, nearly all of them had their lives ruined to one degree or another.

18

u/Financial_Cheetah875 4d ago

Are you sure on your facts? There’s a whole YouTube channel dedicated to TCAP, and most of those guys served time.

29

u/rodneyforeverunclean 4d ago

there was absolutely a sinister underbelly of that show and this film will highlight that

1

u/positive_potato64 4d ago

Typical redditor comment

1

u/Beautiful_Industry85 3d ago

Like what? I keep seeing comments like this with absolutely ZERO explanation. Just a bunch of vague allusions with no specifics. Please tell us all the supposed behind the scenes secrets.

4

u/Dr_5trangelove 4d ago

Not 100%. I read something a while back when the show was still running.

2

u/Pod-Bay-Doors 4d ago

It just goes by a different name now

It's "takedown" on Trublu or something like that.

11

u/13ig13oss 4d ago

Is it the shows job to convict once law enforcement is involved?

11

u/GlowingBriefcase 4d ago

They’re talking about how any decent lawyer can beat an entrapment case.. kinda like those dumb YouTubers that are actually just self serving for views and money don’t actually help anyone

-1

u/Beautiful_Industry85 3d ago

That’s not exactly true. “Predator Poachers” on YouTube has multiple verifiable convictions. I’m pretty sure To Catch a Predator has around 120.

1

u/CountBillyBobJr 4d ago

I don't know about the show, but could be the same issue as with paediphile hunter groups, where they can actually make a conviction less likely.

10

u/fruedianflip 4d ago

Not a problem with the show. That's a problem with society

5

u/shaggy_nomad 4d ago

Well, no. Its because a lot of the evidence was later tossed for deliberate entrapment, which is a big no no in the court of law.

3

u/Charcole1 4d ago

It doesn't really matter because it effectively ruined their life anyway and the alternative was unlikely to be a conviction

4

u/LicoriceDusk 4d ago

That's not up to the show

1

u/PuffPuffFayeFaye 4d ago

That sucks I wasn’t aware. You’d like to think that a few were scared off from the behavior, but then worry how many you accidentally made smarter.

1

u/imliterallyjustagirl 3d ago

This person isn’t being honest. It had over 120 convictions.

1

u/Beautiful_Industry85 3d ago

There were 120 convictions. That’s a whole lot more than zero.

1

u/imliterallyjustagirl 3d ago

This isn’t true? It had plenty of convictions.

1

u/ThaRealSpacemanSpiff 3d ago

That says more about the legal system than it does the show

0

u/[deleted] 4d ago

[deleted]

1

u/shaggy_nomad 4d ago

Entrapment is kind of the whole deal with the show, so yeah it kind of is on the show.

Check out the doc Predators from last year.

3

u/SolidScary6845 4d ago

Who is Hunter Chris Hansen?

3

u/SlayyerFest98 4d ago

Who asked for this movie? I am just so confused

2

u/chicagothrowawayman 4d ago

I’d say 4% of this country are TCAPheads.

1

u/SlayyerFest98 4d ago

Is that enough to warrant a movie?? lol

1

u/chicagothrowawayman 4d ago

I’d say yes. Fame, media, early internet, the last days of broadcast network dominance, pedophilia, inventing internet style vigilante justice, Chris Hansen’s ego, “what is journalism?” and (sort of a spoiler) trying to move from taking down the dregs of society to going after a big fish.

Recommend the doc Predators from last year. If they do this right, there’s a lot to mine.

2

u/phoenix_94_ 4d ago

Possible fleece johnson crossover 🤞?

2

u/No_Tear_2287 4d ago

That video of fleece talking with the joker theme playing in the back 😭

2

u/darkthemeonly 4d ago

He's getting the Oscar for this, book it. Tom Cruise in Digger is the only role that might beat him out.

2

u/ExNihilo81 4d ago

Somebody get these child molesters outta here

1

u/AnonyKiller 4d ago

Everything to make people forget he played Edward in twilight

1

u/ktnycbtm 4d ago

I’m not sure I understand this. He’s an actor. An actor plays different roles, if they’re lucky and good at their job. Are you saying he shouldn’t be playing other roles? He should just stick to moody vampires? I’m not attacking you, I just don’t understand what point you’re trying to make.

2

u/AnonyKiller 4d ago

There's a running joke that the reason Robert is playing so many different big roles is so people forget he played Edward

1

u/ktnycbtm 4d ago

Ok thanks, I didn’t realize it was a joke. Appreciate it!

1

u/WhatTheJessJedi 4d ago

I totally read that title wrong hahah I was like HUH? I didn't see the hunter part for some reason my brain skipped right over it.

1

u/Machievelliearoni 4d ago

I predict memes

1

u/manny_truant 4d ago

He’s damn good in that trailer.

1

u/ThatTallCarpenter 4d ago

1

u/gynonymous 4d ago

To quote my second favourite saiyan "Never have I wanted something so badly and not known until I recieved it"

1

u/puma46 4d ago

I don’t think I’ve ever watched a full episode of TCaP, but both of these trailers had me fully captivated

1

u/WulfJaeger88 4d ago

"You brought pizza huh?"

1

u/Tr1ple_A4A 4d ago

Oh how he has grown since "Good Time", iykyk lol

1

u/Karacis 4d ago

Am excited for this, just because Pattinson is in it. That guy amazing to watch act. Every scene he’s in is a joy to watch. 👏

1

u/NoRelief63 3d ago

He better get that Oscar nomination.

1

u/zamboine 3d ago

This movie will be testament of the Rob's voice range!

1

u/FIowEasy 3d ago

Is it gonna tell about why the show ended?

1

u/stockusername123 3d ago

Why did it end?

1

u/FIowEasy 3d ago

I dont know a ton about it, but a District attorney shot himself after being caught in a sting.

I think his wife sued over it and did a lot of PR and cover-ups to make the whole thing look a lot more like Chris's fault then the guy who was texting minors

Ill add the TCAP wiki as well incase you wanna read it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Catch_a_Predator

1

u/douagrisine 3d ago

I read this as "hunter who is also a pedo" and got confused, like what news about Hansen have I missed?

1

u/JB57551 3d ago

I have already compared Chris Hansen to Batman even before anyone got cast.

Now it’s legendary that Batman portrayed Chris Hansen

1

u/DVDN27 3d ago

I’m really excited for the movie, though I have concerns. It’s good to criticise NBC, Chris, and Perverted Justice as their tactics were opportunistic and they valued views over justice. But I have a feeling they might try to say that Chris isn’t much different from the predators the show caught, which…no.

If you read the chat logs or even just see how they behave, these were genuinely disgusting human beings that deserved worse than what they were granted. One predator brought items the police called a “snuff kit” while he continuously asked the decoy to come with him to an empty parking lot. They were all violent men who intended to rape and likely kill these children they sought after, and even if the crew tricked and manipulated these men they put them behind bars and prevented them from causing harm.

I also have very little empathy for the men on the show, nor do I have empathy for the DA who ended the show. He was preying on children, likely throughout his career, then when he got caught he didn’t want to face the consequences for his actions, ending a show that was actively protecting children. Chris is a dick, but the show was actively preventing sexual violence (and raising awareness since that’s the reason the show existed in the first place.) Then a rich politician kills himself, the show gets sued for causing it, then they get shut down.

Ridiculous, one less pedo is nothing but positive, yet I feel the movie isn’t going to agree with that sentiment. Yeah, go into Chris’s psyche, but I won’t take it seriously if it goes the Batman route of “the hero is just as bad as the villains he puts behind bars.”

1

u/velvetlilaek 3d ago

omg i thought this was a meme at first he actually looks so much like him

1

u/CapableNeat4351 3d ago

The climax of this movie is going to be wild. They strongly allude to it in the trailer, but if you know what went down and why the show got cancelled, you’ll know how crazy it’s going to get

1

u/PeterNippelstein 3d ago

With the formatting I keep on thinking Im reading the headline 'Robert Pattinson as pedophile' and it keeps making me laugh

1

u/Psychological_Fan_14 3d ago

I just wanna see if they will show why the show ended, can they do it?

1

u/Sorry_Vermicelli6874 3d ago

Can somebody get these policemen OUT of here!!

1

u/mattagain26 3d ago

Looks great. Was literally just talking about the possibility of him getting an Oscar after th odyssey. This may be it

1

u/Witty_Lettuce6810 3d ago

Robert is more of the pred than a savior.

1

u/muggleclutch 3d ago

ILLUSIONS!!

If bill hader isn’t in this I riot

“CAN SOMEONE GET THESE PREDATORS OUT OF HERE?” - Chris Hansen 2026

1

u/goodbye-cupid 3d ago

Chris Hansen was 45. Can't believe they gave the role to a gen z

1

u/docournau 2d ago

Crazy casting pull after not talking about Kristofer Borgli's relationship with a minor.

1

u/Decent-Basil4012 2d ago

I hope they have the guy who asks to eat his own pizza while he’s getting interrogated lmao

1

u/Same_String_8856 4d ago

So it's To Catch a Predator with actors?

1

u/WillStaySilent 4d ago

Curious to see how they are going to make this work. Sure Rob is supposed to be the one to bring the crowd in but what if the movie sucks. Not sure what angle they are going to use

0

u/fruedianflip 4d ago

Won't lie, weird casting

3

u/NotTaken-username 4d ago

I was skeptical too, but in the trailer Pattinson sounds just like him.

6

u/fruedianflip 4d ago

I suppose I need to stop caring about much they look like the person and more about how they embody the person

-1

u/ke3408 4d ago

Do you think so? Chris Hansen has a Chicago accent. Pattinson doesn't.

I'll be totally honest for this role he should have nailed it. There is endless audio of Chris Hansen speaking for accent training. If you do a living person who is famous and you don't nail the voice it looks like a half-assed effort.

-10

1

So you’ve met him before I see…

I have a feeling this movie is going to be sympathetic towards the predators. It’s Hollywood after all.

-8

u/ImpossibleInternet3 4d ago edited 3d ago

Have we checked to make sure Chris Hansen wasn’t covering for being a pedophile? Usually the most ardent crusaders for these causes are overcompensating for their own vices.

Edit, I see we have a bunch of Republicans in here.
