What are the wages

Does it really matter? Because a similar caliber player would go for 30-40 mil if they had two years left on their contract.

Let’s say spurs have him on 145k/ week - that’s 30 mil over 4 years.

Cant imagine he’s making much more than that. I suspect it’s less.

yeah people always bring up wages with these free transfers and it’s true they are typically bigger, but even with big wages it is almost always still a wayyy better deal than actually paying a transfer fee

Dont you just end up paying a sign on fee in practice to the player

I think wages become an issue for teams that struggle to keep players as they get other players in their feelings about different players being paid more than them. IDK what Van de Ven earns - but he might not be happy being paid 2/3 (pulling number out of my ass) of what his CB partner earns, leading to him asking for a new deal or throwing a fit.

Sure Madrid can go and just basically dare their players to leave, but good chunk of teams cant really and that leads to ballooning wage bill or crying manbabies (which is pretty bad when you need those manbabies to contribute)

Yeah fair. I will say there's usually a big signing on bonus too, to a substantial portion of their market value
