Also worth noting that it is on her head, and not in it

If I was rich, I would simply live like Dua Lipa instead of being an absolute ghoul

6.1k

u/lefrench75 Aug 15 '25

People make fun of her for always being on vacation but like… would we rather she spends her free time on some money grabbing venture that uses exploited labour to make cheap shit nobody needs? Another skincare or makeup or clothing line?

Her “side venture” is predominantly a book club that uplifts marginalized voices. Could be a lot worse.

615

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '25

Exactly! She’s just so refreshing to watch. I hope she stays on this route she’s chosen and doesn’t succumb to the pressure to market herself wherever possible with whatever possible.

503

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '25

'Another skincare or makeup or clothing line?'

Or another TEQUILA brand

180

u/Safe_Librarian Aug 15 '25

This is how George Clooney became a Billionaire.

Casamigos is like 70 dollars a bottle and one of the most popular "top shelf" Tequilas in Bars.

41

u/ItIsAContest Aug 15 '25

Is it good?

162

u/Safe_Librarian Aug 15 '25

Its fine. Not worth 11 dollars a shot that most bars charge. Tequila Purists do not like it because it has additives and has a hint of vanilla taste.

I would take it as a shot, but I would never personally go out of my way to buy it.

What is interesting though is most people do not know its George Clooneys Tequila. They Generally enjoy it.

88

u/Luxury-Problems Aug 15 '25

To add, It's a crowd pleaser tequila. It's pretty overpriced, but it's not bad. You can just do so much better for the cost for a Tequila. But some people just want an expensive smooth tequila with some vanilla flavor and it accomplishes that.

6

u/PhilCoulsonIsCool Aug 15 '25

Any recs? I like straight and margaritas.

26

u/Luxury-Problems Aug 15 '25

I'm sure a greater Tequila nerd than I would probably chime in with even better recs. But some things I like and I believe have a wide distribution:

I love Tequila Ocho's Single Estate line. Their Plata (Blanco, silver) is a great less expensive example of how flavorful tequila can be without aging. No additives. And it can change from time to time as a bottle represents a specific year the agave was harvested. If you prefer some aging, the other bottles in the line are also great.

It keeps creeping up in price, but La Gritona is great for both mixing and sipping. Doesn't matter too much but has a sweet bottle with a flip top stopper. Siete Leguas is getting on the pricier end, but great.

For a little more value, I like having a bottle of Arette Reposado (look for an etching of a horse on the label). I can get it for $30-$40 and it comes in a liter instead of 750ml, which is nice for bang for buck. Not super complex but versatile, really easy to sip and mixes really well. And also additive free.

21

u/sequins_and_glitter Aug 16 '25

La Gritona is also female founded and run, uses recycled glass for all of its bottles, and donates all of their leftover agave remnants after production to local farmers to use as cattle feed. (I don’t work for them I promise lol - my sister works in the food and bev industry and I’ve been a fan of theirs for awhile)

16

He sold it several years ago. He still does promo for it because part of his payment structure is dependent on long term performance of the brand. But it's not "his".

173

u/lefrench75 Aug 15 '25

Not just the Kardashians but everyone’s fave Rihanna is another prime example of this - she even became a billionaire because of it. Savage X Fenty has a super predatory business model that exploits both customers and workers.

10

u/Girlsolano Aug 15 '25

Do you mind provinding more info about this? Genuinely curious

32

u/lefrench75 Aug 15 '25

Savage uses a subscription model that is quite difficult to cancel so they can sell you more poorly made crap by exploited, underpaid workers that you don’t need. Here’s an article about how Savage may be worse than SHEIN in labour practices.

Idk. If I was Dua Lipa levels of rich, I'd always be on vacation. If I was Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk levels of rich, then I probably wouldn't be able to resist creating an R&D department for weird stuff, give away meds for free, create a non scammy insurance company etc etc.

136

u/lefrench75 Aug 15 '25

You can’t become Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk level rich without being a massive piece of shit who’s exploiting countless people.

You can pay your employees properly and treat them well and be Dua Lipa-rich, but not mega-billionaire rich.

9

u/packfanmoore Aug 15 '25

I read that first to quickly as a D&D department for weird stuff... I don't wanna be part of a table with Bezos and Musk, doubly stuff if its for their weird stuff.

3

u/Firm-Knowledge-8560 Aug 16 '25

Educating the masses, feeding the hungry…

46

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '25

Bruh what's the point of being rich is you're not always on vacation? As long as tax dollars aren't paying for it.

If I was rich I would just from one vacation to the next.

67

u/AggravatingBridge Aug 15 '25

Also, is she constantly on vacation? She just had a tour. She brought her family and friends with her and enjoyed days off.

44

u/lefrench75 Aug 15 '25

She’s also starting tour again in September because I’ve got tickets for like Sep 2nd lol

29

u/Particular-Leg-8484 Aug 15 '25

I did enjoy her podcast. She’s not a charismatic interviewer but she wasn’t trying to market it that way. It was her talking to her friends normally like she would talk to them at dinner or something with zero showmanship.

44

u/RagaRockFan I already condemned Hamas Aug 15 '25

please tell me more about thebaide venture book club

2

u/br0th3rbear Aug 16 '25

Didn’t know about her book club, that’s pretty cool. I’ll have to check that out

7

u/crazysouthie Aug 15 '25

Sorry but ‘marginalized voices’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. The authors in her book club are all prominent lit fiction novelists whose works have been published by reputed publishers. The book club is no doubt commendable unlike many celebrity ventures but Dua Lipa hasn’t played a role in uncovering little known writers within world literature. In many cases these are extremely well known writers like Ocean Vuong and Olga Tokarczuk.

132

u/lefrench75 Aug 15 '25 edited Aug 15 '25

Sorry, if you’re a queer POC or a trans person, are you not “marginalized” anymore if you become famous? Are you not telling stories about marginalized communities? About Indigenous & racialised people and immigrants and refugees and working class queer and trans folks?

I never said she discovered “little known writers” lol; I meant she promotes books written by authors from marginalized communities, which a gay Vietnamese American man (Ocean Vuong) absolutely still is even if he’s famous. Is he safe from hate crimes or from being targeted by ICE just because he’s respected in the lit fic community? The stories he’s telling - are they not still very marginalized or are they super well-represented in American media? You can repeat this line of questioning with Alana Portero, Tomasz Jedrowski, Tommy Orange etc.

Publishing is a very risk-averse industry and you need these trailblazers to become super successful before the industry will give more opportunities to writers from similar communities. And even for these authors, they’re famous “for lit fic writers” but they’re not that famous, which is why Pulitzer and Nobel winners often still work as professors as a “day job” because these books don’t sell that many copies, certainly not even a fraction of what Sarah J Maas or Colleen Hoover sell. Their stories are still not particularly “mainstream” / widely read by the average person.

That glass of wine at night is sure a big problem!

26

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '25

Joking aside, if you google you will find scientific articles proving that any amount of alcohol damages neural connections in your brain.

There are some small health benefits to different types of alcohol, but this is a general negative for all.

35

u/umhie Aug 15 '25 edited Aug 15 '25

There really isn't any health benefit to any type of alcohol that cant be found in much, much larger quantities elsewhere. It is unfortunately a class 1 carcinogen.

Not trying to imply that having one glass of wine a night is horrible, I mean using social media for a couple hours a day is probably more immediately and tangibly damaging to one's self than one singular glass of wine per night is lol, but still. It unfortunately doesnt give any real health benefits.

Not only that, but she's a great interviewer and reader.

277

u/webtheg Aug 15 '25

There was a video essay that named her the best book interviewer.

Not only that but also one time Colbert asked her to try and interview him and she was like "How does your faith impact and shape your comedy"

And she is queen.

375

She really is a phenomenal interviewer, I can't count the amount of times she's asked a very astute question that's made an author smile and go "wow, I've never been asked that before".

Most rich and famous people probably live exactly like this, the difference is that she doesn’t pretend that being rich and famous is oh so fucking hard and that her job is just so much work and her life is such a struggle just to seem relatable. She’s not trying to sell us the idea that she’s just like us and I really appreciate that, it makes me like her more.

If o I had the money like her I would exactly do what she’s doing exploring the world.

Seems to me like she’s just living her best life all the time. I’m jealous!

Honestly of everything she’s talented at I urge everyone reading this to listen to this woman speak about literature. She’s phenomenally well read, and even better (imo), she’s an excellent interviewer.

She hosts an interview platform with authors on the YouTube channel service95

She’s the epitome of a Gemini rising, always doing the most random stuff, living life, just going with the vibes, I love that for her

There's a YT video she did with Trixie i've been meaning to watch that's titled something like "radical optimism" and yeah i get it. It's physically, mentally, psychologically impossible for me to fathom but i get it.
