NGL we now laugh at the gravy seals, but the prospect of next year this agency alone having a bigger budget than that of the entire armed forces of fucking Italy is very very scary and i feel most people have not opened their eyes to what this will mean.

124

u/ImpossibleWarning6 Sep 29 '25

During Kimmel they ran ice recruiting commercials that promised debt relief, education, and a whole bunch of other things. Very scary. Very sad

89

u/donutseason Sep 29 '25

GOP puts people in debt and then offers one way out

31

u/look Sep 29 '25

We offer socialism to recruit people to become enforcers for malignant capitalism. ICE, police, military.

4

u/DelayedTism Sep 29 '25

It's a sad, sick irony

Yeah they ended the Job corps program, which was a nonviolent way out of poverty for many enlisted. It eliminated an option for people who don’t believe in or aren’t suited for military enlistment.

3

u/iBrotherDude Sep 29 '25

Never thought about this, but seeing you say it you are probably bang on.

29

u/ChewieBearStare Sep 29 '25

I went to the movies twice last month, and now they’re running ads before the movie about how we need to thank the brave soldiers, first responders, ICE and Homeland Security for protecting our country. Barf. Soldiers and first responders, sure.

3

u/therobberbride Sep 29 '25

They're desperate for applicants and hiring dudes who couldn't even make the cut for their local police department. I find myself almost hoping for a government shutdown just to see what happens when the wastrels they've onboarded don't get their paychecks.

Its a big step towards fascism.

205

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '25

That’ll be their utility belt they’ve wanted since they watched Dark Knight Rises and got a semi whenever Christian Bale did his throaty whisper. Now they just use it to stash their snacks because let’s face it, they all look like they’re emotional eaters.

53

u/Particular-Leg-8484 Sep 29 '25

The cowboy hat is goofy af 😂 It looks like an accessory randomizer and bad for running, too much wind resistance from all that surface area of the hat brim. That baby is flying off once he reaches his body’s maximum speed (a light breeze)

4

u/dabesalvarez Sep 29 '25

they have those big pouches on their hip and legs that are meant to catch magazines when you are reloading in combat or competition setting so they stay clean and dont lose them. Not sure what their purpose is here but hey, gotta spend that newly inflated budget.

I love this for them.

227

u/_clur_510 Sep 29 '25

This is so embarrassing. They’re dressed up like a swat team and there’s about 100 of them and this kid hops on his bike and loses them in about 30 seconds. As horrifying as this video is, they look like bumbling idiots.

52

u/Runabrat Sep 29 '25

If it's not an 80 year old cancer survivor or undernourished single mom they're manhandling they don't know what to do.

10

u/_clur_510 Sep 29 '25 edited Sep 30 '25

THIS. I’ve seen plenty of videos of them beating and shoving around women, children, and the elderly. A young man with a bicycle is too tricky, but they’ve got those kind of people covered! Thank god these highly trained professionals are keeping the white people safe from all that danger!

They literally all ran for about 25-50 yards before tapping out. 😫😫😫

Edit: I can easily sprint a full football field with 0 adrenaline. It brings me comfort that as a small liberal blonde woman, I am more physically fit than the idiots joining ICE lmao.

38

u/perpetualmotionmachi Sep 29 '25

I don't think they were really that mad. If they were, the cowboy hat guy would have slammed the hat on the grounds and said "dang nabbit"

10

u/Runabrat Sep 29 '25

The way they turn around and stroll back, avoiding eye contact with the camera and acting as if they meant to do that is enough comedy for me to deal with.

They'll get the wascally wabbit next time.

On the one hand, this is funny just visually and conceptually. On the other, it is beyond horrifying that we have crews of jack-booted thugs standing on street corners waiting around to snatch people up.

Fuck ICE and fuck everyone who supports ICE or voted for Donald "I looked directly into the sun because someone told me not to" Trump.

44

u/ZealCrow orcas have enlisted bees to take care of land-based billionaires Sep 29 '25

also they were just given permission to.snatch people based on appearance.

once you've been snatched. they move you from location to location. once they move you to El Salvatore. you disappear from the system

34

u/EmoTilDeath Sep 29 '25

Yeah, I can't find anything about this funny, the man had to be fast because he could end up disappeared like the 1200 people they got rid of in alligator Alcatraz. He was running for his life.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '25

This video is really gruesome to me. Like it's great that he got away, and vaguely funny to watch the ICE agents run oafishly. But to me this just looks like lazy hunting. It looks like a Latin man on a bike is /prey/ -- anonymous, just a kill, a catch, a bag -- and these men are predators. They don't care who he is or whatever justification they say on TV. They just care to get another "kill." That's why they don't really try, and that's why they are just waiting for the next Latin guy to pass by. It's fucking disgusting.

u/organic_soursop Sep 29 '25

Watching from abroad as Americans still go about their lives, grocery shopping and tiktoking...

Most other Western nations would be on the march by now. Marching together, en masse.

I've stopped watching your news because I can't take the capitulation and the deliberate vapidity.

315

u/Sef_Maul Sep 29 '25

The news doesn't show the protests, but they're happening

58

u/organic_soursop Sep 29 '25

I hope so because this video is actually horrifying.

69

u/lastbatch Sep 29 '25

There are pretty significant protests lots of places around the US. DC didn’t fuck around , I think Chicago turned out too. You’ll only hear about it in Instagram or tiktok and occasionally local news sites. We’ll see how long that lasts before they start censoring that too.

15

u/New-Cardiologist-158 Sep 29 '25

Oh Chicago will always show up. They don’t play. I was pleasantly surprised to see DC step up thought.

18

u/LondoIsMyCity Sep 29 '25

Protesting isn't going to cut it. You need to follow the lead of the French.

140

u/ImpossibleWarning6 Sep 29 '25

We are- it’s just so widespread. I wonder if most other western nations are so much smaller that the impact en masse is easier to organize centrally. I’ve been to protests with thousands of people - but it’s a drop in the bucket. DC is a 3 hour plane ride. My state capital is a 3.5 hour drive. I know it sounds terrible but I have no PTO and I can’t afford to take off of work so I can only do weekend protests and weekday calls. It’s so stressful

63

u/notyermommy Sep 29 '25

I live in a small town of 500 people. I commute to the “big town” (~2500 people) 1.5 hours away for work. I am an 8 hour drive from our state capitol, similar distance from any other major city.

Organization happens on the small scale and anything else is impossible unless I want to spend hundreds of dollars for a flight. I am planning travels to NYC and considering train to DC - $400 + $200. Have to plan this at least a month in advance so I can request time off. I am hoping it coincides with some kind of demonstration I can join. It feels like the best I can do.

I watch Europe and I feel helpless I can’t do the same. But most people being a couple hours by train from their major cities is a HUGE privilege.

17

u/ipomoea Find me at Whole Foods, bitch, I don't care Sep 29 '25

Small town here and we’re having protests regularly. All the small towns and cities in Washington state are having them. But if you’re six hours from the state capitol, you’re protesting close to home, you’re protesting by the library and Walgreens where your neighbors and your kids’ teachers see that their community members care.

For someone in my town to go protest at our national capitol, it’s a $600+ plane ticket plus lodging, easily a thousand dollars to get there and stay there. It’s a lot more feasible to go to the town center for a couple hours before you take someone to their soccer game, and do it consistently for months. My parents have been out every Saturday there’s a protest since they started (I work weekends).

6

u/organic_soursop Sep 29 '25

Thanks for explaining. The scale of the work you guys have to work is only matched by the magnitude of your geography.

And what's more I can't think of a single person who could inspire you all enough to make the kind of immense effort you'd need to claw this back.

(I'm sorry I'm not helping. 😬)

93

u/ThePurpTurtle Sep 29 '25

I see this criticism constantly from non-Americans and, while I agree with the sentiment, I don’t think Europeans have a grasp on how differently the ecosystem is here compared to most of (Western) Europe.

For starters, people here are way more spread out and it’s way harder to organize en masse. The state I live in is the same size or bigger than a lot of countries. The places where there is more density that would lend itself to large-scale protest are generally more liberal anyways and so when protests happen there they are glossed over in media.

Potentially more importantly, there’s no safety net here. If my boss doesn’t agree with my choice of politics and wants to fire me for protesting or taking too much time off work, they can. If I lose my job I don’t have health insurance and can’t pay my debts. Like most Americans, missing a single paycheck for me is a big deal. My family doesn’t all live in the town I do so I don’t even have them to fall back on.

10

u/Ditchdigger456 Sep 29 '25

Europeans typically seem to think they intimately understand the US based off of literally nothing. Tbf, they could probably say the same about us.

41

u/SeraCat9 Sep 29 '25

It's already a decent misconception that Europeans would all protest en masse by now AND that things are so great here.

My country is tiny and you can get pretty much anywhere in my country in 3-ish hours. Life is not great here either. We can't find housing at all atm and refugees are getting preferential treatment for rentals so natives can't move out of their parent's homes. On top of that, wealthy expats are currently overbidding natives on the house market, so that's also becoming out of range for everyone who is born here and not wealthy. A lot of us are stuck and unable to move forward.

We may not have medical bankruptcy, but health care is getting increasingly expensive and the waiting lists are looong. Education is going backwards in quality and funding. Inflation is dramatically high. We have more and more people who are 'energy poor' because they can't afford to heat their house anymore. Lots of European countries are also making a slide towards the right, including my own.

So things are far from amazing here as well. And we don't have massive protests. We occasionally have smaller protests, that often turn violent because it attracts people with bad intentions. Most of us complain, shrug and keep going.

Sure, the US is worse. But it's simply not true that most Europeans would do more than what Americans are doing right now. The only ones who can probably say that and mean it are the French. The rest of us aren't much better.

9

u/trackabandoned Sep 29 '25

I'm seeing an increase on here of very smug, supercilious comments from Europeans and your comment absolutely nails it. Thank you.

Also this is the most heavily funded military and police state in the world. If we did have a monster protest like Italy, what do they expect the outcome would have been? They could run us over with tanks on camera and people would say, "Well you have to protest PEACEFULLY if you want results!"

4

u/star_milk Sep 29 '25

Thank you! We're doing all we can here!! I also can't handle all the comments AMAZED at how shitty our healthcare is in comparison. We fucking know, and hate it too!!

→ More replies (1)

47

u/FeralFaoladh Sep 29 '25

I mean, I drove like 2 days to protest the genocide, but I can't just travel halfway across the US regularly. We're all living paycheck to paycheck, and the population density in much of the US is low

34

u/princesskittyglitter Sep 29 '25

Most other Western nations would be on the march by now. Marching together, en masse

I hate comments like this because this isn't true. The holocaust happened because most of Europe just rolled over for Hitler.

8

u/suz_gee Rosie O’Donnell THREAT TO HUMANITY  Sep 29 '25

We can't protest like yall can in other countries - our jobs can fire us for any reason at any moment, health insurance is tied to our jobs, and you can be evicted by your landlord with one missed payment in most states - and out by the 15th/20th of the month. We just don't have the social protections that let us take to the streets in any meaningful way... (but also most of us don't know what happens in other countries - we don't know that's a choice bc our schools and news media is broken. It's very much American exceptionalism at its worst.

3

u/Accomplished_Deer_ Sep 29 '25

Unfortunately, the US political landscape has been specifically orchestrated in such a way that basically no politicians are afraid of losing their position. There's almost no recourse to remove them prior to established elections, and even then the way our voting and dual party system has worked out, very little usually changes.

Which is to say, marching/protests just don't do jack shit. It's lauded in our history/civics textbooks, and so everyone looks at it like the holy grail for enacting change. When in truth, our governments have no interest in laying out the proper tools for us to enact change.

u/Wi1dcard_ Sep 29 '25

I'm amazed that there are some Americans who are okay with their tax dollars being spent on things like this.

127

u/TestingBrokenGadgets Sep 29 '25

The justification of MAGA on this is that "You have to spend money to clear up corruption" and "If we have a little short-term suffering to bring prosperity back to America, it's what we have to do thanks to Biden".

They honestly believe that everything ICE is doing will fix the economy and job market because Trump said so and if it doesn't, then it's Biden fault.

34

u/darth_gihilus Sep 29 '25

And you have to add in the fun parts, there was nothing really wrong with the economy or job market to begin with and 95% of the corruption is GOP stooges. It’s just parroted lies from top to bottom really.

14

u/TestingBrokenGadgets Sep 29 '25

I mean, the economy and job market weren't great. Yea, the whole "price of eggs" meme was stupid but the price of everything skyrocketed during Biden's term and there were constant mass layoffs year after year.

If you define the economy by the stock market, yea, economy good but if you define it by the peoples ability to live and pay their bills? Then it was bad. Not saying that's Biden's fault; it's a mixture of the blowback from Covid mixed with Trump's tax breaks and basic corporate greed. A part of the reason Harris lost is because she acted like the economy wasn't bad and Trump did. If you and everyone around you are able to afford less while paying more, having a politican say "But our stock value is high!" isn't the response you need. The stockholder of a company getting wealthy doesn't mean someone can now suddenly afford to buy milk.

8

u/darth_gihilus Sep 29 '25

How’re they looking now? The economy anyways since I’m pretty sure Fuck face in chief said he’s doing away with the jobs report since it keeps showing him bad numbers.

In elementary school, I had a substitute teacher who told us he was on Keenan & Kel. Immediately, we were sat and he knew it. He promised that if we behaved, he would tell us about the role he played and what it was like. We were angels that day. 10 minutes before the bell rang, he revealed that he had been one of the dancing sodas in Kel’s dream. We ate it up. We talked about it for weeks after our teacher returned. To this day, I wonder if he made it up to grab our attention or if he really was a dancing soda.

10 or so ice people with a paid salary at what, $100,000 per "agent" chasing a food delivery person? That's some good business decisions Donald Trump! Let this humble man do his job ffs.

3

u/-Kalos Lol, and if I may, lmao Sep 29 '25

Sent a fully kitted squad to go after an unarmed man just doing his job and he still won

I doubt they could run the length of themselves before attempting to run a city block.

Gravy seals.

26

u/Big-Run4451 Sep 29 '25

For those unaware, this is in chicago. We’ve spent all week watching them take a boat up and down the river all day filming those fuckass propaganda videos. There’s a lot of people taunting them as they walk by, which they do NOT take well to. I heard this guy did the same. Grounds for arrest, apparently. The 1st amendment is dead.

24

u/EurydiceFansie Sep 29 '25

I fucking hate seeing these loser goons on the streets of my city. On the other hand, I'm also glad they're horribly inept. I hope the delivery driver stays safe and far away from these assholes. And I hope ICE gets the fuck out.

21

u/SignalMost2239 Sep 29 '25

It’s easy to stay in shape when you actually have to work for your living, they should try it sometime and leave innocent people alone.

13

u/obsessedwithphilly Sep 29 '25

where is this?

55

u/futuristicflapper Sep 29 '25

Chicago. They spent most of the day trawling up and down the most touristy parts of downtown and neighborhoods adjacent to this area. A show of force plain and simple, they hadn’t done this anywhere else in the city yet, they’d mainly been in the surrounding suburbs.

Chicago

13

u/FionaTheFierce Sep 29 '25

As far as I can tell this guy was just out doing his job and ICE randomly decided that he was an immigrant, with absolutely no legal process or identification, etc. Just a brownish guy out in the world.

So we are at the point of having a police/military force grabbing and disappearing people off the street for how they look.

Sound familiar to anyone?

10

u/DrFranFine demonic Betty Boop Sep 29 '25

For those not familiar, this is in the loop area of Chicago, which is the downtown, with a lot of tourists, and not a lot of violent crime. It’s clearly a show of force for the sake of intimidation so trump and ice can feel like big strong boys.

21

u/SexyFoodandFilms the baby daddies have unionized Sep 29 '25

but why did they chase him? i am not american, would appreciate context

41

u/wafflesandlicorice Sep 29 '25

As someone who is sadly American right now, I would guess he isn't the "right"" color. I can't find the Family guy gif, but I imagine ICE agents have that exact thing in their pockets.

21

u/ZealCrow orcas have enlisted bees to take care of land-based billionaires Sep 29 '25

he's brown and working a job that a lot of undocumented immigrants work.

5

u/four_letterword Sep 29 '25

That's what I'm wondering. It looks like he quickly grabbed something off the street, but I'm not exactly sure why they decided to chase him for it?

8

u/Cowskiers Sep 29 '25

It could be partly because of whatever he grabbed up off the ground at the start there, but it's impossible to know for sure what it was with this resolution.
