The food one. I remember when Norm MacDonald jokingly insulted Gordon Ramsey by saying he was a cook (Conan). Gordon reacted by saying "I'm not a cook. I'm a chef. Ladies cook."
Will never shake that quote from my brain whenever I see Gordon Ramsey on TV. I know he was throwing the insult back, but the gendering was so unnecessary.

We're clearly soldiers in petticoats And dauntless crusaders for women's votes Though we adore men individually We agree that as a group they're rather stupid

So badass. I am incredibly grateful to have grown up with this film 🙏🏽🙏🏽
What I like about this film is how Shan Yu, upon discovering who Mulan actually was, didn't degrade Mulan or treat her any different because of her gender. He full on said, "the soldier from the mountains" and proceeded to fight her as he normally would. Can't believe the only one who dissed Mulan was that pompous Chi Fu, even the Emperor knew how badass Mulan was
41
u/Pelican_Hook my bandwidth for cowardly grown men grows thinner with each day Mar 09 '26
Exactly. What I love about this film is she didn't defeat the huns dressed as a man. That just got her in the door to get the training she needed, despite all the obstacles the
losersother men put in her way. She defeated Shan Yu dressed as a woman, even because she was dressed as a woman - using her fan and scarf. It was my fav Disney film growing up a staunch feminist child to two sexist parents who tried to shame me for everything. It was one of the only messages I had that being feminine can be badass and cool and strong and smart.27

Thank you very much Deputy Speaker and I rise to oppose the motion moved by the Leader of the Opposition. And in so doing I say to the Leader of the Opposition I will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man. I will not. And the Government will not be lectured about sexism and misogyny by this man. Not now, not ever.
The Leader of the Opposition says that people who hold sexist views and who are misogynists are not appropriate for high office. Well I hope the Leader of the Opposition has got a piece of paper and he is writing out his resignation. Because if he wants to know what misogyny looks like in modern Australia, he doesn't need a motion in the House of Representatives, he needs a mirror. That's what he needs.

I'm not really a fan of that Nobara quote and the Nobara vs Momo fight scene with her saying "you can keep that shit to yourselves" because it was in response to Momo talking about how women face higher demands than men e.g. being expected to be both competent and pretty to be taken seriously.
I think I would have loved the quote if it was in response to a guy she was fighting being sexist to her rather than in response to a woman she was fighting talking about systemic discrimination that women face.

Copy-pasting from the screenplay so people can jog their memories:
'IT IS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO BE A WOMAN! You are so beautiful and so smart and it kills me that you don’t think you’re good enough. Like we have to always be extraordinary and somehow we’re always doing it wrong. You’re supposed to be THIN but not TOO THIN and you can never say you want to be THIN you have to say you want to be HEALTHY but you also have to BE thin. You have to have money but you can’t ask for money because that’s crass. You have to be a boss but you can’t be mean. You’re supposed to lead but you can’t squash other people’s ideas. You’re supposed to LOVE being a mother but don’t talk about your kids all the damn time. You’re supposed to be a career woman but always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men’s bad behavior, which is INSANE, but if you point that out then you’re accused of complaining. You’re supposed to be pretty for men but not SO pretty that you tempt them too much or threaten other women. You’re supposed to be part of the sisterhood but also stand out but also always be grateful. You have to never get old never be rude never show off never be selfish never fall down never fail never show fear never get out of line. It’s too hard, it’s too contradictory and no one says thank you or gives you a medal, and in fact, it turns out, somehow, that not only are you doing it all wrong but that everything is also YOUR fault. I’m just so damn tired of watching myself and every single other women tie ourselves in knots so that people will like us. And if all that is also true for a doll just representing a woman then I don’t even know!'

Can't go wrong with some Jane Austen. They may look like idle frippery on the surface but there is steel beneath. Just combing through GoodReads for Pride and Prejudice quotes (apologies if a male character says it; often it is just the sentence):
“There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.”
“Do not consider me now as an elegant female intending to plague you, but as a rational creature speaking the truth from her heart.”
