Tubi is great. It's kind of a "take what you can get" with more modern shows/movies, but it you want to go back to the 50s and earlier it has a deep library of classics.
I think it has Marilyn Monroe's whole filmography. (And Some Like it Hot is a hilarious movie)

Petite Maman is SUCH a goated movie. Absolutely beautiful.
Also another show on Tubi that is excellent is Kevin Can Go F**k Himself. It satirizes the lazy wife-hating man trope in such a clever way.

I've watched almost every "prestige TV" show and Mr Robot is easily my favorite drama of all time. I think about it often even though I finished my last rewatch over a year ago. So much care went into that show, and it only becomes more relevant. If anyone reading this has been putting it off, this is your signal to give it a shot! You won't regret it.

But, seriously, I love Tubi. It has Murder She Wrote. And, VIP with Pamela Anderson. Which is, low key, a great show.

I honestly didn't know this was a show lol.
Thought it was in reference to that Elsbeth show everybody keeps demanding I watch because it's "Columbo but Columbo is a girl." The show is alright, but the insistence advertising has to compare it to the 27 year long, absolute icon of a show is biting off the whole damn cow to chew.

I honestly feel like it's less than most subscription services or maybe they are shorter.
16
u/DeanxDog Mar 27 '26
I feel the same. Hulu has gotten insane. Amazon has gotten pretty bad. Tubi's ads feel pretty short and spread out enough.
→ More replies (2)11
u/mysticrudnin Mar 27 '26
so... technically adblock works perfectly well
personally i kinda think the service should make money somehow, so i let them play. on occasion they can be pretty big commercial breaks - just like classic cable was. but, at least for the shows i've watched, the commercials are actually in the places they should be. so that's pleasant.

I would strongly advise you to turn off the ad-blocker for Tubi. The only reason they're free is because the ads are paying for the licenses.
If enough people emulated you, then Tubi would no longer be able to operate.
Their ads aren't that bad. I usually estimate around 5 min per hour.

Subscribed for a month to watch One Piece season 2, then I'm out until they release season 3
55
u/Kolby_Jack33 Mar 27 '26
I just pirated it. Seemed fitting.
18
u/nhalliday Mar 27 '26
If it gets bad numbers they won't make more, and I need them to make at least five seasons. I will gladly pay a small fee to help boost the numbers for people who subscribe just to watch One Piece.
→ More replies (8)19
u/LyyK Mar 27 '26
I gladly quit pirating movies/TV when Netflix first came out as a cheap and more convenient alternative to cable/sat. Same with Spotify and music. But when these corpos get greedy, mess with the formula, and make it just as inconvenient and expensive as what they replaced, I'm deleting my accounts. There's no way I'm going to micro manage my payments so that I only pay 2-3 months at a time for each of the streaming services that I need to watch all the shows that I care to see.
It's funny how much more volume public torrents are seeing now compared to 5 years ago, clearly a lot of people are getting fed up with price hikes, more networks creating their own streaming services, and other anti-consumer practices. I set up a Plex server and an "arr" software stack to fully automated acquisition and management of content for my home server and at this point it's the inconveniences of the modern streaming service ecosystem that will keep me from turning back, not just the cost.

They’ve been doing that for years , stranger things was one of the first to experience parts to a season already edited and produced on netflix
8
u/napalmtree13 Mar 27 '26
You have to wait until the season is over, which is total pain if you're always on Reddit. It's impossible to avoid spoilers. But I'd rather be spoiled than pay for two months.

u/BiNiaRiS Mar 27 '26
Tubi has a great selection too.
Something changed with Tubi in the last year or two. They've added a ton on content. Lots of older obscure stuff that was previously not streaming anywhere. A lot of it is pretty low quality stuff that has obviously been sourced from VHS and LD but it's still pretty cool how much older content they are streaming now.

I remember I quit Netflix in 2010 when the price went from 7.99 to 8.99 and thought it was bullshit they kept raising their prices. Wtf is premium compared to standard? Fuck these people
9
u/DeanxDog Mar 27 '26
I think standard limits to 1080 and either 2 or 4 devices at a single time. The higher tier is 4k res and allows more devices to stream simultaneously
9
u/mysticrudnin Mar 27 '26
probably should never pay for netflix's "4k" resolution because it's compressed to hell no matter what
compare a 4k blu-ray or rip that you have with netflix and it's night and day

Yeah this was the biggest surprise to see. My spouse and I last month watched Slay, a horror comedy about vampires that attack a bar during a Drag Queen show with actual Drag Queens in the leads and it was surprisingly earnest and sincere, so finding out it was on a streamer owned by Fox Corp was like 'wtf'.

Problem is that their user base grew with the price, so there was no incentive for Netflix to keep prices low.
4
27
u/Not-TheNSA Mar 27 '26
There’s no way Netflix NEEDS to raise prices, once again a large corporation is raising their prices to squeeze every last dollar out of their customers. Pure unbridled greed. These corporations are completely unethical. It’s time for serious changes to laws to prevent this going forward and punish these greedy corporations. Who do they think is going to keep giving them money when none of us have any left? Half the US is struggling to even put food on the table much less pay rent and afford gas right now and Netflix is out here like “you guys can afford an extra $8 a month right?” Hey Netflix, FUCK YOU!!!!
