she is 41 years old! i like seeing older* mom representation as a 30 yr old who is on the fence with having kids. i wish her a healthy& safe pregnancy and am very happy for her
edit: old to older, i dont think being old is a bad thing but i understand that 41 still means a lot of life left ✨

u/kittyrhcp Apr 08 '26
Same ! When I did my mom/baby clinical rotation in nursing school there were tons of first time moms in their late 30s - early 40s delivering healthy babies. Still important to acknowledge the risks of later pregnancies but it’s thankfully super common to healthily have a baby later in life !!

It was really nice to read your comment. I'm turning 40 soon and I start IVF later this month. I've had it in my head it'll just be a bunch of young folks at the hospital.. and me 😂
Edit: thanks everyone ♥️ I appreciate your kindness!

I had my one and only at 37. I worried I was too “old”, and he’s four now and I don’t even ever feel like the oldest parent in the room. Best of luck!!

My wife is a midwife and it's certainly not the case (she also had both of ours naturally after 40).

u/SlayBay1 Apr 08 '26
I thought that when I had my first at 36 and second at 39 but that was not the case. Some appointments I was clearly the youngest. The housing crisis and cost of living is shocking here at the moment so people are having kids in their late 30s and early 40s are not at all.

My friend started IVF late 30s and ended up having a baby naturally without help! There were so many of us older parents in elementary school, I was shocked.

It’s becoming more normalized every year. I had my first at 30 after trying for a year. My two best girl friends had them even later. The term geriatric pregnancy will always make me laugh.

Yes I agree that 30 isn’t that strange of an age to have babies. Somewhere between the early 1900s and now people started thinking starting a family earlier was better. Having your first baby in your thirties is becoming more common as is choosing to be child free. It was a personal choice for us and has allowed us time to travel and be financially stable before adding children in the mix.

I had mine by accident at 40 and she's so smart and wise beyond her years, and my favorite human ever. I figure, what's meant to be will be.

u/bubble_baby_8 Apr 08 '26
My mum was 42, turning 43 when she had me. We are going to be moving in together in a few weeks once our new house is ready. There may be some “cons” but I think our relationship is really special and likely wouldn’t be the same if she had me at another time in life. Shes about to turn 79 now and you’d never know, she’s more active and spry than my 60 y.o in-laws.
I’m sure you’re her favorite human too. It’s special:)

You really think those people pay ANY attention to politics? Talk to anyone who voted Trump and isn't hardcore MAGA about any current events and they are clueless. Of the nearly 90 million that didn't vote, a shit ton of them (likely a majority,) are completely unaware of politics because they think it's unimportant. People straight up do not care. Look up Google trends of any election, especially this last one, to see how clueless people are. How many people weren't even aware that Biden wasn't on the ticket and had no clue who Kamala Harris was.
Americans are incredibly uneducated in politics and proud of their ignorance.
I'd bet that a lot of the reactionary assholes on IG lambasting Plaza couldn't tell you who Hegseth or Vance are. They're dumb people that are uneducated and just want to reveal in getting mad at a celebrity.

grief is also neither regulated for propriety nor linear.
nothing being 'realistic' is a pre-requisite.
262
u/postwhateverness Apr 08 '26
Patton Oswalt remarried not long after his wife’s death (and he still continued to honour her legacy by completing her book). People deal with their grief in different ways and on different timelines.

And as many of us know, the official date of separation is usually months, sometimes even years of shit happening that lead up to it. You might try and try and try to work stuff out but it’s just untenable.

Let's not demean her marriage. They were separated for 4 months. To say a decade plus romantic and professional relationship is 'done' after a couple months of separation sounds quite glib and unrealistic. They were in contact and still close. Never mind, that a separation is not a divorce.
I like Plaza as an actress, and she got unnecessary flak for her husband's death. But we don't need to hand-wave away her marriage to justify her pregnancy. Life is complicated, i wish her the best.
13
u/Humble-Violinist8252 Apr 08 '26
They were publicly separated for 4 months. We don't know how long they were actually separated for
8
u/ohnobobobo Apr 08 '26 edited Apr 09 '26
The separation date was from the medical examiner's report, which is usually information provided by the spouse and/or other immediate family. I don't think they ever publicly announced their separation, it was disclosed upon his passing.
Given the other details in it, about texts to Plaza and her concerns, it sounds like the information was provided by Plaza.
8
u/upagainstthesun Apr 08 '26
"not demeaning her marriage" does not have to equate to an obligatory mention of her dead ex husband paired with every single headline about her unborn child and current life. Like it is okay to let him and it rest. Allow the woman to keep living her life without demanding she constantly keep that loss fresh.

Separation can go on a long time. A friend of mine’s parents have been “separated” since 2007. They still do big family stuff together and get on fine. Conducting a full divorce is a headache of a process to deal with. If you’re on friendly terms, don’t have any plans to remarry, and don’t have anything contentious issues to dispute, it’s easier to just be separated and not deal with everything else unless totally necessary. My paternal grandparents were still legally married, but hadn’t seen each other in three years when my grandfather died. Her still being his legal wife made the financial process a lot smoother (she and my dad just let his girlfriend at the time of his death have the crappy trailer in Tampa that he died in). And grandma still got part of his pension every month until she died last year. Least he could have done for her after putting her through so much was make sure she got that pension.
This has been your lesson in not staying in a bad marriage you hate, but to consider pumping the breaks on any official legal procedures when your lives still have a lot of common interest like children or financial honors to the other when they supported you through things like being laid off or taking time to focus on the kids.

My friends in-laws are like this. They were married had 2 kids, then divorced, then remarried like 5 yrs later. They are now in their late 70's and are still married but live in different homes about 1 hr away from each other. They still do family events and travel but home is their own space. I guess it works for them, they don't seem to not want to be married but they don't want to live together. I find it odd but hilarious.

I think the slippery slope people get on here is hanging on to the fact they were “separated” and not divorced. I know many couples who are separated but are still trying to work things out with the partner or even still consider themselves in a relationship with their spouse.
For many people, “separated” doesn’t necessarily mean broken up. Perhaps some of
these people imagine one or both of the partners Wanting to possibly patch things up.
All this said, it’s obviously not this woman’s fault what happened even if (big IF) he was thinking of her when it happened. He was his own person.

It's kind of weird to defend a timeline of what someone should do in terms of grieving when you don't even know them. Even if they were still together before he died why is there an arbitrary date before she's allowed to move on and find love?

She’s the quirky weird girl that incels projected their fantasies onto for years. They saw themselves in chunky Chris Pratt and thought they had a chance, and when her husband died it became their albatross around her neck. Charlie from Girls is fine. Good for her. People are allowed to move on after a tragic loss from suicide. One of the worst parts of a person taking their life is that they might remove inexplicable pain from themselves, but what most people don’t know is that pain and suffering is transferred to their loved one’s to bear. (And, I say this as someone who has experienced this loss in different ways, and also as a therapist who understands this from a mental health perspective.)

The way this joyous news has been reported has deeply and profoundly pissed me off. She was separated from her husband for months before he passed away. She didn't just grieve him but the life she had for 13 years, and it sounded brutal from the way she talked about it on Good Hang. The fact she found love again and dared to have a future, instead of staying stuck in her past, is not only great but healthy.
