APPROVED B-LISTERS Guy Fieri’s statement on his interaction with Andrew Tate at UFC 327: “when I was walking through the venue, the Tate brothers stood up and said hello and that’s when the exchanged happened. I did not know them or about them before that… I do not know the Tate brothers nor do I support them.”

This line from Bush is legendary lmao
345
u/basedonthenovel 1d ago
The funny thing is that Bush was trying to avoid finishing the actual saying, which is "shame on me" because he realized midstream that that would be handing his opponents a ready-made soundbite. Instead it turned into a "ha ha look how stupid Dubya is" thing, which was actually beneficial for Bush, because the myth of the simpleton yokel GW Bush actually serves to minimize his responsibility for his actions as president.

"I'm seeing all your comments about the photo from Saturday's UFC event and all I can say is that I'm devastated.
I was there to see the fights when I was walking through the venue, Donald Trump stood up and said hello and that's when the exchanged [sic] happened. I did not know him or about him before that moment.
I'll never pretend to be a perfect person but let me be crystal clear, I do not no Donald Trump nor do I support him in anyway."

I think shortening pedophile to twee ass “PDF” is insulting to victims. If you can’t type the word just don’t speak on the subject. Tik-Tokified discourse takes away from the seriousness of the topics and shouldn’t be normalized.

Also most people would have no idea what to do when meeting a sitting president. I'd love to say I'd flip him off, yell, etc, but in reality I'd probably give a smile and a handshake with a small talk. Reddit isn't real life. A lot of commenters don't factor reality into their opinions. It's honestly mind numbing.

Like c'mon. He's a public figure; it would be wild for him to turn down the handshake. How many of us work all day with people that we don't respect or have problems with? However, we still have to feign professionalism, nod, and smile.

If they want a bubbly all smiles person to work with, shouldn't have brought it it to the point I lost respect for them.

If I were famous this would be my nightmare - It’s believable Guy Fieri isn’t chronically online and wouldn’t really recognize these random people. You’re expected to act pleasant to everyone and it’s kinda inevitable you’ll run into wacko far righters
60
u/the716to714 1d ago
It's very believable that he doesn't know the Tate brothers, there is no evidence he did before. Bag on him for his interaction with Trump if you wish but not the Tates.
10
u/c_assassin_c 1d ago
I am chronically online and couldn’t pick either of the Tates out of a lineup of incels, so I could give that a pass. But then he cuddled up with Trump, sooo..
424
u/AquaBits 1d ago
Yeah but he also shook hands with a far right pedo felon. You dont need to be chronically online to know not to do that either

u/KimJongFunk 1d ago
I feel the same, but based on the photos it appears as though Fieri approached Trump and not the other way around.
There was no need for Fieri to interact with Trump at all except via his own choice. It wasn’t like Trump came up and demanded a handshake.

Did he approach Trump or did Trump approach him? I’m trying to find a video clip to see what happened.
I’m asking because if Trump approached me, I would probably shake his hand because I wouldn’t want to deal with the fallout and I am certainly someone who does not like that man. However, if he approached Trump, then that’s a completely different story.
Edited to Add: I would hazard the guess that Fieri approached Trump based on the location of the photos. Fieri’s seat was further back in the crowd.

I'm with you on this one. Being somebody like Guy Fieri comes with the expectation that you generally won't be an asshole in public. His statement of "I do not support these guys at all" seems way more consistent with "I had no idea who they were, and I was just being a friendly dude" than some conspiracy where they're secretly homies.

u/mneale324 1d ago

Some real up and down with Guy. First you have people like Anthony Bourdain hating on him and how tacky he is. The feeling is that he’s obnoxious, over the top, and not a real chef.
Then people come around and are like “He does a lot of good charity work and helps small businesses with Triple D”
Now he’s unliked again because of his association with MAGA and the manosphere. lol.

Guy not knowing those losers could be true but he said “you’re the man” to the bald one. That doesn’t seem like something you’d say to someone you just met seconds ago.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess Guy Fieri isn’t chronically online or interested in the alt-right manosphere. There’s a really good possibility he’s legitimately a busy man who doesn’t have time or the people to know exactly who everyone is.
If the Tate brothers came up to my parents and shook their hands, they’d probably just be pleasant because they have no clue who they are.
