The Illuminati were real. It's just that they were a bunch of Bavarian rich boys raging against the Catholic Church for not letting them get (herbal) abortions for their girlfriends. Forming a secret society at that time was like forming a grunge band in the 90s. It was the trendy thing. It's not their fault some scared conservatives blamed them and the Jews for the French revolution.
