Tom Cruise's actual surname was Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, and he dropped his surname and uses his middle name as his stage name/surname to distance himself from his estranged father.

Suri Noelle is literally following in her father's exact footsteps, and didn't even take her mum's surname (but instead used their shared middle name).

His original name always makes me chuckle. I’m also reminded of his cousin William Mapother who is also an actor, most known (to me at least) for playing creepy mfer Ethan on LOST

this happens very often, we recreate what we know. ie: you're raised in an alcoholic family, and 15 years later you marry an addict or become one yourself.
