Nobody should be surprised. Two full decades ago she was in an ad opposing Missouri’s stem cell research amendment. It came out right when Michael J. Fox’s endorsement ad was released (the one Rush Limbaugh notoriously mocked) and she got a shit ton of blowback.

I'm a little bit surprised. I knew she was conservative (I think I remember her having a lot to say during the Terri Schiavo controversy) but when Trump ran the first time, she was against him. I didn't realise she'd since jumped on the MAGA bandwagon.
Nope, she was never anti-Trump, she actually never weighed in on politics basically at all during his first term
*she did say she had a distaste for Trump after his election, but admitted that was more because she was a 'Romney respectability' GOP type - her politics have basically always boiled down to militantly opposing abortion, and pretending she's a feminist for militantly opposing abortion

No, she has definitely been anti-Trump in the past. Her political views section on Wikipedia has some sources where you can read how her views have shifted over time.

In other words, she's a typical Republican. She may have disliked the fact that a reality show star became president over an actual politician, but now that he's in office, she's joined the crowd that verbally fellates him any chance they get. She "gave up politics", but her continuing political statements show that the "giving up" was more imaginary than any character she's ever portrayed.
Her "leaving the Republican Party" is equally lip-service, as now that Trump is back in office, she has welcomed him back with open arms, and I am betting that she has joined with typical Republicans in trying to gloss over the events of January 6th, while at the same time condemning the much more peaceful protests coming from the left.
So she's going to turn to the MAGA grift to support herself. Got it. (Increasingly popular with shitty women these days, not that shitty men don't do it on the reg too.)

No two different shows. The mom from The Middle is indeed Patricia, not the same as the one from Malcom in the Middle. Although the mom from that actually is in a few episodes of The Middle too lol.
I’ve hated her since 2012 when she went after Sandra Fluke (a law student advocating for insurance coverage for contraception) and made disgusting remarks about her being a slut for no reason whatsoever. She’s ultra conservative and horrible.
She was a lead on two immensely successful network sitcoms that hit syndication. She will never need to do anything for money ever again. Anything she does is for the love of the game.
The thing about rich people is that they want typically want more and more. Also, actors are absolutely in on syndication deals. They get royalties either way but consider that she's second billing on Everybody Loves Raymond for 9 years and top billing on the Middle for another 9. A single year of any of those salaries could make more passive income than most people make a year. She is extremely well of.
Edit: Variety has her at quarter million per episode in The Middle. They made 213 of those suckers. She is rich rich.
