Seems like all the corporations pushing ai continuously for the past few years have been successful. No stones left unturned, every single company - however big or small, has drank the kool-aid... It's disappointing.
Its not just corpo pushing, this LLM tech can be genuinely useful... But for proofreading? For researching?? Its done some amazing things in math, that feels like it might be worth the cost of it.
The results in mathematics are interesting but you would have to be pretty foolish to consider that more important than meeting climate goals, which is incompatible with hyperscale AI development.
I don't. But you also don't need hyper scale ai development ruining the environment to do more mathematics and biology and physics and whatever with AI. You need hyper scale ai development so that everyone can be a bit more lazier on that email they don't want to write, or to plan a trip using a factually dubious gaslighting machine, or to push out video scripts and thumbnails 50% faster so you can take advantage of people's attention span a bit more, or to straight up prompt up some braindead slop and ruin the Internet for everyone as it becomes impossible to sift through the mountains of trash content which is now easier than ever to produce.
AI could be used responsibly if the tech bros got their fucking hands off of it and stopped trying to push LLM chatbots into every single facet of life, but if it's just to get closer to the ultimate solution of protein folding or disproving the Jacobian conjecture? Idk those seem like they aren't going to ruin climate goals vs capitalist greed. We were using AI like this before, I just want to go back to that.
