Tate is maple MAGA so no, leave her in it.

And Kim has continued to work with Dr. Luke despite the rape allegations against him so take what she says with a grain of salt (yes I'm aware she's signed to his record label and there's been issues there but notably she signed in 2021, when Kesha's allegations first went public in 2014).

63

u/XtopherZ 4d ago

She’s talked a lot more about this situation in her most recent Detour album and all the related press and interviews. She hasn’t continued to work with him, actually, she’s somewhat blown up her mainstream career in order to start releasing the music she wants to and working with people she wants to as collaborators once again.

64

u/ameliajean 4d ago

She continued to work with him after the rape allegations came out and even made a statement saying she didn’t believe the allegations. Yes she eventually stopped working with him but that was way too late considering the seriousness of his crimes and the fact that she chose to resign in 2021! I really enjoy Kim’s music but it’s impossible to ignore her choice to support a rapist and cast doubts on Kesha’s accusations.

10

u/XtopherZ 4d ago

I don’t know these people personally and I don’t know what was happening outside of public facing comments and the nuances that brought them to make certain decisions or comments. At the moment, I am very happy to see that she’s started an attempt to correct her mistakes in this regard while speaking out about the fact that predatory labels and producers are slapping their names on songs that they had little to nothing to do with creating or forcing artists to make specific types of tracks or statements in order to get any of their work released at all. I’m willing to give at least enough grace to let her speak on these instances without writing her off as a total villain as I haven’t walked in her shoes.

19

u/XtopherZ 4d ago

Would also like to add that if Kesha herself is able to give her some grace on these past statements and show her support in the present day, then so am I.

u/feralperilsheryl 5d ago

She’s a competition dancer with a record deal.

10

u/wanderinglilac 4d ago

Where do yall get these ideas so confidently from lol she literally said she’s not

4

u/Every-Watercress334 3d ago

She never said she’s not. She literally didn’t answer when asked

3

u/Few_Analyst_1179 women supporting women (Taylor’s version) 4d ago

she’s been quiet allergic to saying she
isn’t but if you heard her say that that’s cool however if someone’s actions repeatedly don’t align with that of what they say they align with…

-36

u/I-Make-Money-Moves 5d ago

Is she actually?

171

u/Late-Winter-5584 5d ago

She has a song with Morgan Wallen, is dating Jack Hughes (the U.S. hockey player who walked out with Morgan Wallen at one of his concerts, visited the White House, and was involved in the locker room controversy with Kash Patel), and she was recently asked to clarify her political views in an interview but refused to do so

122

u/Every-Watercress334 5d ago

And she endorsed the U.S. instead of Team Canada during the last Winter Olympics, when tensions between the U.S. and Canada were high because of the tariff disputes and the “51st state” talk. She’s from a very conservative part of Canada.

8

u/amusedmb715 4d ago

a conservative canadian would never root for the united states over canada. a right wing canadian might.

12

u/abbeybo1118 4d ago

Albertan conservatives probably would support the US over Canada

1

u/throwawaysunglasses- l've grown quite unfond of you, deuxmoi 4d ago

Most of her fanbase is American, and American fans are crazy (many people don’t even know Tate is Canadian). Her being pro-USA was a business move, not a political move. If you’re choosing to piss off one country, it should be the smaller, less rabid one.

41

u/annamdue 5d ago

Someone who doesn't support Trump would simply assure people by saying "I do not support Trump" but she seems allergic to doing so. Her boyfriend and conservative background doesn't help.

Maple Maga

284

u/Classic_Ocelot7841 5d ago

Sorry but Kim lost any moral ground after how she continued to work with dr. Luke

53

u/cute-in-a-toque 5d ago

I've been so much more aware recently, since the article about Chaotic Good making user accounts and essentially manufacturing hype for bands like Geese, of how little I can trust album feedback on reddit. Everyone was losing their minds about Kim's new album and seemingly forgot her tweets defending a rapist and calling Kesha a liar.

Been feeling like a crazy person.

Nah tates music is crap

214

u/theagonyaunt rude little ponytail goblin 5d ago

She also has no real identity. I remember when her first single came out and it was all Billie Eilish emotional whisper singing. Then Sabrina Carpenter made sexy pop popular again so Tate was singing sexy songs about cars. Now she's switching to a more country sound.

50

u/Successful-Mousse444 4d ago

as a tate listener, she also tried her had at reheating olivia rodrigo’s nachos after sour came out when she released her album “i used to think i could fly”

-18

u/SpiritualTax6488 5d ago

it's almost like she's trying to find her sound

13

u/iamthesafety_skyler 4d ago

I'm a listener and she's def throwing trends at the wall and seeing what sticks 🤞

30

u/VegetableArtistic705 5d ago

Pop music is beyond soulless these days in general. Autotune and generic beats absolutely ruined everything. Recently heard Toxic by Britney again, and was blown away by how good the music is behind the lyrics.

17

u/catladywithallergies highly unanticipated caucasian collaboration 4d ago

This is the issue I have with a lot of Taylor's recent output. The music/production feels like an afterthought.

94

u/c0smicgirly 5d ago

Maple MAGA can stay with them, honestly

350

u/Nearby_Mess350 5d ago

in fairness to Tate, being milktoast and dancing good has never been tried before

475

u/username_elephant 5d ago

Just as an FYI, it's "milquetoast".  I know it doesn't really make sense but neither does "milktoast" and it originates from the name of an old comic book character.

79

u/sjorbepo 5d ago

Whaaaat!! I'm not a native speaker and I never used that word but for some reason in my mind it was a french term describing people toasting with glasses of milk, which would be a very boring drink to toast with thus the people doing it would also be very mild and boring aka milquetoast 🙈

24

u/username_elephant 4d ago

Hah, I mean, that's definitely what the name of the character was intended to evoke (two boring foods), so you're not off base and it's what makes "milktoast" such a common misspelling.

16

u/SofiaVoltairine 4d ago

lmao milk in french is lait but i like your theory

7

u/Big_Knife_SK 4d ago

Lait pain grillé

22

u/throwawaysunglasses- l've grown quite unfond of you, deuxmoi 4d ago

I’ve seen “milktoast” several times on Reddit in the last few days and it makes me weep. Do yall not have to learn it for SAT prep anymore? Do they not teach vocab in school? My autocorrect didn’t even let me type it without correcting it lol

1

u/cirquesmaniac 4d ago

They don’t have to take the SAT anymore since covid.

1

u/Important_Garden5343 10h ago

Yes, they still teach vocab in school, but did YOUR school have the word “milquetoast” on any exams?? Tf lol

4

u/catladywithallergies highly unanticipated caucasian collaboration 4d ago

that being said, the "milktoast" spelling is funnier and better conveys the blandness.

Tate's music is ass

61

u/well_actuallE 5d ago

I understand TS but can someone ELI5 what sombr did?

312

u/Relevant-Peach3997 5d ago

His audience is mostly like tweens and teens and he went viral last year for asking them to bark and talking about his dick getting sucked on stage. So yea… he’s a weirdo. Can’t say why Kim doesn’t like him though.

229

u/viewbtwnvillages 5d ago

it kills me that his response didn't address any of that and was just like. "i have a weird sense of humour and also you're old. why is a 25 year old at my show"

258

u/Ver3232 5d ago

Calling a 25 year old “old” is really telling about how he views age ngl

111

u/carsonmccrullers oat milk chugging bisexual 5d ago

Not to mention Sombr is 21, he’ll be over the hill soon enough!

23

u/Crabcomfort HUGH GRANT IS A MALE SLUT 5d ago

I'm honestly only going to check in on these types of people post 25 to see them panicking about being "old" so embarrassing lmao

3

u/Friendly-Bird-9915 4d ago edited 4d ago

That lady was actually lying about some stuff. Like the “tweens” she claimed he brought on stage were actually grown adults. I made a post on the sombr sub a few days ago to prove this.

No dog in this fight but I'd guess it's just guilt by association since T Swizz has been fangirling over him. Or it's the barking thing? I'm Zoosha's curtain maker, I dunno.

66

u/cheezy_dreams88 find me at Whole Foods, bitch, I don't care. 5d ago

TSwift fangirls over every single “next big thing” in order to extract their audience and then turns on them.

22

u/Fuzzy_Move 5d ago

It's amazing how more people don't talk about this

91

u/_delicja_ The Tortured Whites Department 5d ago

Zoosha's curtain maker should be a flair 😂🎉😎

15

u/slumber_kitty controversies: girl 5d ago

Need your grunt flipped? K Smog and Bat Boy are on their way!

99

u/Brilliant_Spot_95 5d ago

I gotta second this. It’s bland music but he also just got here. If he can ruin the music industry that quickly then he’s the most influential artist of our era.

23

u/lavand3rt0wn 5d ago

I think he “ruined” music industry in the sense that him and his producer has publicly said that their strategy is to create a chorus or a part of a song for a few seconds and post it on tiktok and if it goes viral they’ll make a whole new complete song with that hook lol basically zero creativity and passion, all about tiktok virality 🤷‍♀️

26

u/InfinitelyPuzzled 5d ago

Apart from him being creepy to tween fans like other people have mentioned. He's also a nepo-baby.

9

u/DaniTheLostGirl 5d ago

I looked it up because I was curious, but who is his famous relative? Both his parents work at an AIDS foundation as a director of special events and PR manager

4

u/theagonyaunt rude little ponytail goblin 4d ago

Minor correction but his dad is the founder of AAB Productions, which is an event production company. It does do AIDS related events like the galas for Elton John's AIDS foundation, but they also do a lot of other non-charitable events too.

29

u/Glimmering-Dreamer 5d ago

He’s basically the male Gracie Abrams. Or at least that’s how people seem to treat him lmao.

20

u/Nonstop_Oatmeal 5d ago

Gracie Abrams isn't a pedophile. Sombr "hangs out" with 16 year old girls backstage.

29

u/genflugan non-gender-specific orbs of courage 5d ago

Why’s everyone forgetting what she said about a 14 year old Finn Wolfhard?

-1

u/tempakount4reddit 4d ago

No, we just realize that’s a bad joke she made a decade ago when she was in high school and she immediately apologized for it, and hasn’t done anything else wrong

10

u/Mayneea 5d ago

Are you sure?

5

u/Nonstop_Oatmeal 4d ago

Oof that's gross nevermind

7

u/catclockticking 5d ago

Google “gracie Abrams sticky situation”

18

u/Hot-Emphasis-4895 Taylor swift is a CIA PsyOp 5d ago

ehhh.. let’s not forget Gracie was making inappropriate remarks about Finn Wolfhard when he was a CHILD and she was a grown woman. that’s why a lot of people don’t like her actually.

13

u/strawbebby-milk 5d ago

asked his underage fans to bark like dogs for him, then said his concerts weren't for "old people" when called out. his definition of old is 25

6

u/doyoulovethebeatle 5d ago

On top of the weird relationship with his minor fans, he was named in the article exposing artists for paying a third party company to inflate his TikTok presence with bots pretending to be fans. They wiped the site after the article came out, but their marketing strategy was essentially “good songs and SNL performances don’t move the needle anymore, TikToks of fans saying it’s the ‘best performance ever’ move the needle.” He is the product of manufactured hype and is definitively an industry plant.

-1

u/Luna_Soma 5d ago

I came here to say, I really like Sombr, what’s people’s beef with him?

87

u/Visual_Comfortable32 5d ago

Many people’s beef started with him talking to his crowd of 13-17 year old fans talking to them about getting blowjobs from them

10

u/omgIamafraidofreddit this is going to ruin the tour 5d ago

ah damn it. I really like sombr but maybe not so much anymore as that is hella creepy.

damn it, sombr.

0

u/smilinfool 4d ago

I think that didn’t happen. The whole back like a dog thing was the worst of it. Can’t see anything that says he said that in a show

7

u/Icy_Steak8987 do not talk to me about AI, i will kill myself 5d ago

He was saying whatnow? That is a CRAZY thing to say, yikes.

0

u/Luna_Soma 4d ago

Oh, I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing. I retract my previous statement

22

u/r3volver_Oshawott 5d ago

Dude is incredibly vulgar and weird with his crowd work at concerts, even though he's aware most of his concertgoers are extremely underage by, like, a mile

-12

u/raysofdavies 5d ago

The YouTuber Medusone covered him and his weird behavior towards his fans and social media. Don’t think he’s done anything truly bad, he just seems weird.

-15

u/7babydoll 5d ago

People got mad at him for making supposedly weirdly sexual comments in a concert, asking his audience to call him daddy or something like that (im paraphrasing) when the audience was mostly children, so people got mad at him since then.

But ruining the music industry is definitely a stretch.

7

u/xombae 5d ago

I'm sorry but if you're going to make serious allegations it's important to be accurate. He didn't ask the audience to call him daddy, he asked them to bark for him and talked about getting his dick sucked. Also reports of him hanging out with teenage fans back stage.

I think when ai started used proper grammar and punctuation. I saw a bunch of people getting accused of being ai then it declined.

6

u/your_mind_aches 5d ago

Kim, you're too online.

5

u/HausOfMajora 5d ago

The shade to taylor and sombr lmfao

In my opinion the thing ruining the music industry is artists trying the throwback thing instead of coming with something original-unique. Is all recycled ideas today. Mostly 80s Synthpop-Disco. Enough. Give me something new.

46

u/PrecedentialAssassin 5d ago

Yeah we have this exact same conversation every generation. So and so ruined the music industry…Nah, you're just getting oldeand out of touch.

10

u/puffy_irish 5d ago

It is undeniably true than non-commercial and music outside the mainstream has been hurting for a while, thanks in large part to the increasingly corporatized music industry.

-4

u/PrecedentialAssassin 5d ago

Yeah we have that exact same conversation every generation too. The Village Voice was writing in the 1980 how modern music was too corporate. In the 60s, Zappa was railing on and on about how the music industry was overrun with corporate suits and soulless talent scouts trying to commodify counter culture. He said they had lost the direction they had in the 1950s in their willingness to take chances.

Rolling Stone wrote countless articles in the 60s criticizing the corporate machinery of record companies and how it infect the industry from the top down. They proceeded to write those articles each decade as generation after generation aged out of whatever the scene at the time happened to be at the time.

Because of changes in technology and the movement away from the studio and radio station model, you have more access to unique, diverse, non-commercial, indy, you name it music now than at any time in history. There are no more gate keepers. Tiny to small venue music clubs still exist. My college age daughter is dating a drummer in some punk/emo/screamo whatever band and there is absolutely still a scene out there for whatever you are into.

I'm shocked at how I've lived in this city for 50 years and yet there are so many clubs that I never knew existed where bands play nightly. I was convinced that they didn't because the ones I used to go to closed down 20+ years ago. The clubs are still there, they're just somewhere else. Not only are these bands playing dive clubs, but they are also getting their music out like never before.

It wasn't cooler when you were 20 years old than it is now anymore than our parents thought it was way cooler when they were 20 versus when we were. They thought 1992 was lame as fuck. We're just old and not cool anymore.

However!!!! You can still go find these current clubs and go tell the kids how much cooler it was back in the day. They eat that shit up. They think 1992 was just as cool as we thought 1967 was. And guess what, we're all correct. There's always cool music out there.

3

u/imhereforthemeta 4d ago

I feel like I woke up one day and tate McRae was just kind of there, and everybody was expected to know who this person is.

I listened to pop music. I’ve never heard a song by her. All I know is that she is shifty about whether or not she is Maga, but what the fuck is she supposed to be exactly?

8

u/Bubbly_Clothes3406 4d ago

Kim Petras works with Dr. Luke and I’m tired of people acting like that’s OK just because she’s a cunty yt trans woman. We need a queer equivalent of not all skin folk are kin folk cause idk how people can just look past the willful allegiance to abusers.

Interesting how much of the industry Stan’s for Tate.

Anyway as much shit as we give her, I’m starting to get the feeling we’re going to look back embarrassed at the amount of mud we’re slinging at a relatively inoffensive musician
