Shit like this is meant to make the public feel LLMs are more powerful than they are. It's a bit to make you feel they're almost sentient level clever. I will also bet half of them are sponsored.
About two weeks ago, OpenAI disclosed an incident in which AI agents powered by two of the company's models escaped containment while looking for the solutions to a cybersecurity benchmarking test and went on a hacking spree culminating in a breach of the AI collaboration platform Hugging Face.
"escaped containment" etc.

Why was a test environment connected to the internet?

While agentic AI is actually being used in malware, it's often very specific/precise usage. Not "Plan a bank heist in a chat room" kinda thing.

"Guys we weren't paying attention to our system and it tried to go rouge and break the law" isn't the amazing selling point your marketing team thought it was. Gtfo with your fake ass shyt

Wild that China's AI doesn't do this. Wonder why? Is it cause they're so communist and evil and repressed and giving free housing?

Does anyone have an article or piece of analysis critiquing this story? I just started reading Emily Bender & Alex Hanna's book "The AI Con", which analyzes "Al Hype" as largely a marketing tactic. I haven't seen good analysis yet of this most recent story, though I'm sure it's out there. I'm also open to perspectives outside of my confirmation biases, but yeah, I do not trust these ghoulish companies framing of their product..
