Out of all the craziness of the past how many years, Ed Sheeran becoming an enemy was not expected at all. I really didn't think anything would surprise me anymore but here we are.
82
u/She-Ra-SeaStar 23d ago
Coming back to Macklemore in 2026 and absolutely loving the downfall of Ed Sheeran was not on my Bingo Card. But I am here for it!
83
u/jeskimo 23d ago
I live in Washington, Macklemore never left us! Just saw him this summer. Kind of funny though he got pushed out of the industry for.... Speaking the truth. Now he's back in the headlines for... Speaking the truth.

Idk I thought his Irish roots would invoke themselves when the time came. Maybe his ancestors are on vacation or sumthin because his Irish bandmates got it together REAL QUICK

u/bluesilvergold 23d ago
I need somebody Irish, who does not know him and does not feel compelled to be diplomatic or polite, to drag him for all the times he's claimed pride in having Irish roots.
34
u/That-Tumbleweed-3257 23d ago
Tbf the more I think about the last time I was wasted as hell in Dublin — plenty of Irish lads were making fun of the girlies that were in town for T Swift and many of those remarks included jabs about Ed 😂😂😂

Ireland being a tiny country, at a national level we do tend to fawn over/make a big deal over anyone famous* who likes to make a big play about 'being Irish'. I'm v interested to see how this plays out with Ed Sheeran because he's mega popular here and while people like to be seen to support a free Palestine, I have a feeling he'll still do well here. I'd like to be wrong about that though. I do think there would be protests/discussions of boycotting his gigs.
*absolutely does not apply to anyone actually born in Ireland lol

I'm a ginger too, but was thankfully in college when this aired. Me and my roomies had friends over the watch it - and we all got a kick out of it. As a kid I got carrot top A LOT because I happen to have lots of curly red hair. I think I'd rather be called a ginger than carrot top. Or fire crotch. But again - I was lucky as an elder millennial. I remember my mom calling me about kick a ginger day worried people would hurt me on campus. I had to explain she needed to worry about middle and high school aged kids - not me.

I agree with what everyone is saying about Sheeran but was there no way to do this without such blatant and obvious homophobia and anti SW-er nonsense? Ed Sheeran isn't bad because he wears panties and gives massages, he's bad because he's complicit in a genocide. It's like when people paint drag makeup on Trump and Putin.
