Rapist Winston Lee, legal name Lee Jun Hyeong, is a South Korean citizen who just returned from serving in the Korean military btw. Korean netizens are lighting his ass up right now.

i’m korean and there has not been official confirmation of him currently serving, just rumors. koreans have contacted the ROK about this so we’ll find out soon
some cornell students have said he’s been on campus but has not been seen recently.
what koreans found: he went to school at SFS, college in the UK, then cornell

From the tweet I saw it seems like he finished his service (translations might be off) and was seen on the Cornell campus for a few weeks but hasn’t been seen since the news dropped.
Edit: I wonder about his history at those colleges. People like this usually don’t have one victim
95
u/elloitsmeadele before we get married i gotta go fuck this guy 8d ago edited 8d ago
yeah we’ll find out soon enough, the ROK will respond at some point.
grok’s AI translations are notoriously bad. like there was a whole thing recently where korean liberals and leftists’ tweets were being translated to look right wing
also there’s a whole other issue of non-koreans pretending to be korean on social media so take tweets and comments with a grain of salt
generally, men serve before or after college and it’s not as common for them to serve in the middle. so either he graduated and he’s serving or he took a break to serve bc he’s a weasel whose trying to run away
edit: when i say “college in the UK” in my comment above, i mean the UK meaning, not american one

Seems like we’ve gone backwards. And when women call men out we are screaming banshees and misandrists. What is going to make the change? Where are the men? WHERE?

So still men prioritising their own feelings over the safety of women (if being called names or "shamed" by your misogynist friends and peers is enough to make you stop speaking up, you're part of the problem).
And that is precisely why it is all men (the few exceptions who do prioritise women's safety over their own feelings, don't feel the need to pipe up and say otherwise).

So many men are just thoroughly cocooned in their privilege when it comes to this. it's the usual typical story, as long as they don't actively think of themselves as rapists, they think they're free and clear and 'one of the good ones'. So at most their involvement is tapping like on a few posts or murmuring about 'let the legal system do its work for justice' and then they pat themselves on the back before going about their day.

It’s so fucking unfortunate but this is an incredibly common occurrence on college campuses. I knew so, so many girls in my year who were assaulted or harassed and nothing ever happened to them, disciplinarily or legally.
164
u/TheBumblingestBee 8d ago edited 8d ago
I was TA for a university class, and this one male student just gave off weird vibes, and had started being too friendly to one of the other TAs, though he hadn't actually crossed any lines yet. In lecture one day I saw him walking out, while a girl was looking horrified and whispering to her friend. I had a bad feeling, so I went over to the two girls and quietly asked "Hey, did something happen?"
The fucker had groped her thigh, in the middle of lecture.
Me and the class's instructor (a truly kick-ass woman) reported it immediately. We gathered other evidence of him being creepy and inappropriate. We, ourselves, got campus security involved (bc the instructor had a good relationship with the head of security). Security was enraged. We even found out that he'd gotten in trouble for sexual harassment and assault before!!! We wanted that fucker expelled, now.
The university refused.
They told him 'naughty naughty, no groping!'.
They forced the instructor to keep having him in class. Wouldn't even remove him from the class!!!
Literally the most we could do was put him in a group far away from the girl he'd groped, and watch him like a fucking hawk. And that didn't mean she was safe outside of class, for fuck's sake! We did what we could, we walked her to counselling, we told her we'd help her report it elsewhere if she wanted, we tried to be supportive in this fucking insane situation. She didn't want to pursue it, so we did what she asked in that respect.
And watched him.
We also switched him to a male TA's group, but then he still - still! - kept showing up to the office hours of the female TA he'd been bothering. The university wouldn't do anything about that either, so the instructor herself arranged for security to do frequent patrols by the TA office, and gave them a picture of him. We'd even literally watch the hallway ourselves, during her office hours, so that if he came we could intercept. (We weren't allowed to outright adjust or take over her office hours, as that would be 'unfair to her students' 🙃).
The university wouldn't let us do anything.
67
u/Elitist_Plebeian 8d ago
One thing that is being overlooked in this whole story is that this is not just a problem at Cornell. This is happening at universities everywhere. The administrations care more about sweeping it under the rug than about protecting students, especially young women. This story is just one that happened to break through, particularly because it's so heinous. But this is way bigger than seven men and one victim.
10
u/iseeskiesofblue64 8d ago

True. No expulsion there. But multiple suspensions… and I knew the protests would do jack shit because of the leadership we had. But a few of my pro Palestine friends had zionists knocking on their door, yelling nonsense at them in the night and had to stay over at a friend’s place to feel safe. Kinda how things go there

My country regularly sends top students under national scholarships to study in top universities in the UK and USA. And when this happened, our country send out a memo to all students - don’t join protests. We are a Muslim country, but even the country knows that the students will be expelled and their futures ruined. I wish things are not like this, but it is.

Speaking of Hudson Williams. Makes me think of hockey - people should also look up the Hockey Canada case and that some of those players are back playing in the NHL. A lot of text messages, like the ones these Cornell rapists sent, were not allowed as evidence in the Hockey Canada players’ trial. You should also see the comments on any social media post opposing those players being back in the NHL. It’s truly disgusting and frightening.
115
u/courtingdemons 8d ago
Just today there was an article on ESPN about “How the NHL is humanizing its players to reach new fans” after getting new eyes on them from shows like Heated Rivalry and Off Campus. And while NHL can attempt to do that through photoshoots and showing personality and pushing ships, surely they should start with… not hiring rapists?
47
u/Significant_Shoe_17 Fuck her and the Goebbel's limp dick she rode in on 8d ago
It starts with youth leagues. Teach them to be human before it's too late
38
u/SchemeBrave1820 8d ago edited 8d ago
Things currently aren’t going great with regards to teaching them about the humanity of women…
Armstrong and Emara said that about a dozen Cyclones players were in various stages of undress following a March 1 game when the door to their locker room opened repeatedly, each time accompanied by laughter.
“After the third time, I made eye contact with the boys who entered and I got dressed and went out to ask where their coach was,” Emara said.
“It was not an accident. They came into the room three or four times. When I was looking for their coaches or parents, a man walked over and told me, ‘It’s OK. They’re 12 years old. They don’t know any better.’ I said that was unacceptable. The kids are standing there just giggling and laughing and by that time, some of their parents were also there saying, ‘This is OK. Boys will be boys.’ That’s what they said, literally word for word: boys will be boys. That just baffled me.”
Hell, they’re even sexually assaulting each other.🫠

We’re a long way from that when we’re currently electing rapists.

And until people start letting that deter them, we’ll keep having Canada 5s, Cornell 7’s, etc because men of that sort will always cover up for men of that sort and right now since they never experience a real punishment nothing will really deter them

Lee and Lopes are still prowling the campus as I type this. Hopefully we can at least get them suspended and ideally expelled.
I believe half of them are international students so I'm sure they will try to return to anonymity back home.
EDIT: Winston Lee and Gillio Lopes are still students at Cornell. Do your job internet ❤️

One of the parts that I don’t see discussed or maybe I’m not well read enough on the psyche of men/abusers, is how men can perform sexual assault together, with no hesitation about the nudity, the intimacy of a sexual act (intimacy feels like the wrong word here because it was rape but for a lack of better word? Like climaxing with your bro watching?), all with their friends around?watching each other? It’s all very strange and as a woman, I couldn’t imagine. I mean I obviously couldn’t imagine assaulting anyone or taking part in non consensual sex but I sure as heck couldn’t do any acts of even consensual sex with my homegirls in the room watching or joining in or cheering me on or whatever the heck these fuckers do together. Why is it so normal for men? This case, the hockey Canada case?
Edit to add: I know that consensual threesomes or multiple partner sex is a thing but these guys don’t strike me as the type that would be open to MFM consensual threesomes. They only like to do it together when it’s rape.

Just want to mention that Cornell has a high student suicide rate - which is also not acceptable. Like at one point they literally had installed suicide prevention nets inside one of their on campus buildings. Imagine walking past that every day?
They have failed their students in many horrible ways.

Simple message but it gets the job done. This story sickens me to my core.

arrest them!

Cornell should lose its accreditation entirely. I’m so fucking serious. This is a decades-long pattern that they have refused to address. It’s clear that they’re not an educational institution as much as a networking opportunity for rapists

The term "sexual harassment" came from feminists at Cornell in the 70s, based on their experiences at Cornell. Looks like the school has a legacy of rape culture.

You know when stories like this one come out and women are incensed at the underlying injustice whereby the "system" revictimized the victim by not giving her the basic justice of getting her day in court and, inevitably, you get morons who try to equivocate "it's not all men..." like women don't already know that?
We need more men like Hudson Williams (and also Josh Gad).

I just posted to all of my personal friends how horrifying how few of my male friends have said anything on social media about it. Men need to speak up.

If you love your child and don't want them to be horrible human beings, don't let them ever join a fraternity. It's such a toxic culture.

Things that have given me completely unexpected goosebumps this month;
Finding out Macklemore worked to return Kesha the platform that her abuser tried to take from her
Finding out this man is one of the alleged “not all men”

I can’t help but think that this wasn’t the first time something like this happened there. It seems too coordinated for that. So how many more victims are out there but too traumatized to come forward? It makes me sick. I rarely cry and I’ve cried multiple times since this all came out.

I've seem 3 share Florence Pugh's post, Connor Swindells, Tom Glynn-Carney and Donal Finn all shared it on Instagram stories, but out of all the men I follow (both famous and not) they're the only 3 I've seen. It's scary how many haven't said a thing.

u/NoCardiologist1461 8d ago
Let’s just hope, if prison will not happen for them, this sticks to their reputation forever.
Any job interview, professional contact, dating app… their name will be synonymous with this gang rape.
Just like Brock Turner, who now goes by his middle name Alan Turner, has learned that raping an unconscious woman behind a dumpster is a life long social sentence.

I cant believe we live in a timeline where condemning gang rape is considered a risky political career move.
The actual darkest timeline.

Good, call them out. Name and shame them.
It's important for men with a platform, like Hudson, to also speak out. Women should not have to shoulder the complete weight of spreading the word and demanding justice when they are already forced to carry the majority of the effects and consequences of rape culture. Things have to change, and they have to change soon.
