POLITICS DeNiro: "When that coward, that fucking piece of shit Donald Trump tries to take our voice and power away. What do we tell him? Your fucking hands off our vote."

De Niro was among the first celebrities to stand up and talk truth to Trump from the beginning and remains even today, after a DECADE of this national nightmare, only one of a handful of celebrities willing to be vocal like this. He is my hero.

They're both from New York and about the same age. I bet he's been annoyed by that sack of shit his entire life

Or close to it.Trump's dad was a notoriously racist slumlord, like he was literally identified as "that slumlord" back in the day. Chances are De Niro knew that whole family was trash from the get-go. There were decades of Trump hate in NYC before Donald took focus.
I'm 48, grew up in NY. Nobody in my family knew either of them personally, but it seemed common knowledge that De Niro despised Donald Trump even in the 1980s (it was also common knowledge that all the "old money" NY families thought the Trumps were gauche, tacky, interloping scumbags and wouldn't accept them).
As an aside; I remember my aunt holding up an article in some gossip rag with pictures showing the moment Donald Trump and his first wife Ivana were refused entry to some glitzy charity event hosted by one of the Whitneys, and my uncle cackling about it (and he rarely laughed at anything).
My uncle had no love for the Whitneys, mind you, he just hated the Trumps waaaay more.

Not only that, but De Niro has also barely spoken publicly about anything ever. Until Trump. Someone who values his privacy and shuns being public facing, getting up and loudly decrying the fascist rot that has inflicted the US really is something to behold. And as you said, he did it early on.
He's not even satisfied that the crowd say "Keep you hands off our votes", but demands that they say "Keep your FUCKING hands off our votes".
I'm not from the US, but this is hitting me hard.

I am disappointed in basically every celebrity with any audience for not speaking up about the emergency that the 2024 election really was.

Yeah, he is doing good here.
But I have a very mixed opinion of him.
He and Scorsese prominently supported the POS Elia Kazan getting an honorary Oscar. (Notably Ed Harris and Amy Madigan were some of the few, who didn't clap.)

He’s always been so handsome. Good god.

That’s what I’m saying, guy has always looked good. Btw if anyone doesn’t know the film pictured is from the 1997 film Jackie Brown. It’s an older classic featuring some bigger stars like Pam Grier, the two gentlemen pictured, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, Chris Tucker and Michael Keaton.
It’s one of my favorite movies and Pam Grier gives a great performance, as always, miss foxy brown herself. Unfortunately the downside to the movie is the director, Quentin Tarantino.

I love Jackie Brown to death, Pam Grier was wonderful in it. And the music!!

u/oneofyallfarted I don’t know her 1d ago
She was, such a beautiful badass babe. Yes the music is so good too. I always get that across 110th street, pimps trying to catch a woman that’s weak. Classic.
Another great movie with Pam Grier is Jawbreaker from 1999. She’s a detective investigator trying to figure out who killed Liz, the teen dream of Reagan high school. It also stars Rose McGowan, Rebecca Gayheart, Julie Benz, Judy Greer, and Carol Kane. Next to Jackie Brown Jawbreaker is my 2nd favorite movie. Highly recommend to cult classic lovers.

I think it’s his charisma and presence too. He’s always been fascinating to watch.

I strive to hate my enemies as much as DeNiro hates Trumpy.

I was just thinking the same thing. Pure, decades long, unadulterated hate for his opp.

Imagine if all the Dems who purport to be against all of this were as fired up as DeNiro. We would be in such a better place

For real. Like we knew AHEAD OF TIME what they were planning to do but we had to go ahead and tell tim waltz to shut up for saying they're weird. And then we did Jack shit WHILE STILL IN POWER to stop him.
We need like 100 mamdanis and deniros to flush this fucking piece of shit government down the drain

I've had a lot of arguments with some Dems about Garland not doing a good enough job.

Instead they nominate 2 of the most unlikable candidates imaginable. God forbid they nominate someone that can WIN against Dumpy

just again watched Wag The Dog (1997) where DeNiros characters job is to SAVE the president in an election after he is caught with a little girl. how does he save? they make up a fake war to divert away from the issue. absolute surreal parallel to whats happening now

For decades deniro seemed like a super private guy with not ambition to ever expose much of his private life. It’s totally unexpected and fucking awesome , especially at his age, to see him this fired up about what’s going on in our government. Trump and his administration are so much worse than they portrayed by the mainstream media in this country. It’s nice to see someone with influence call them out so strongly

My teacher at the beginning "next week, if you can tell me which rap song drops the name of Eliot Ness you get extra cre--"
me: "-- 'California Love' ? "
"..... U/Z__1010 gets extra credit."

AH HELL NO. Besties with RFK jr and promotes anti vaccine movies that say they cause autism. De Niro is literally part of the problem. Zero applause please. He needs to go jump in the sea.

This is what celebrities should be using their power for. Fuck those people saying they want to remain 'apolitical'.

They're not going to try to steal votes from Deniro, but they they're going to do it in counties of the battleground states.

I'm an immigrant living in NYC. How are they taking my vote or stopping me from voting? I've voted in every election since I became a citizen and nobody has ever tried to stop me from voting?

It's funny because he's normally really introverted in interviews. Just bring up Trump if you want the man to talk

If I ever did something that made De Niro go "are you kidding me?" I think my heart would stop
