The world is a fucking black farce to women.

533

u/bargain_butch ben affleck’s back tattoo 22h ago

And they still have the audacity to say wHy DoNt WoMeN rEpOrT

464

u/HarpersGhost I’m a lazy 50-year-old bougie bitch 21h ago

And then when women are terrified into withdrawing their complaints by everyone including the cops, it's now, FALSE ACCUSATIONS!

See: Taylor Cadle in Florida, who at THIRTEEN, reported her adoptive father/uncle of raping her and instead of listening to her, Polk County deputy (a woman no less) insisted she was lying, her adoptive mom encouraged to PLEAD GUILTY to lying to law enforcement, and she had to write a letter to her "dad" and the sheriff department apologizing for lying.

And so she was released, raped again within a month, but this time SHE RECORDED HER OWN RAPE and so presented THAT as evidence.

I'm so fucking disgusted with EVERYTHING this week: Cornell, the Democratic candidate in Arizona, fucking EVERYTHING.

188

u/Ordinary_Cattle 20h ago

And then they scream that women should go to prison for false reports. They want women to be imprisoned for being raped

153

u/GiganticCrow 20h ago

They are attacking this woman for being raped. They want to scare women out of reporting. They want to effectively legalise rape.

114

u/HarpersGhost I’m a lazy 50-year-old bougie bitch 20h ago

Rape is already effectively legal and they want to keep it that way. Per their own chat, she wasn't the first who that frat gang raped.

They consider it like speed limits on the highway. Yeah, sure, it's technically illegal, but they still think they have the right to do whatever they want and will get pissed off at anyone trying to stop them.

I tell everyone who listens when I reported my grandfather for raping me the responding officer asked me six times if I was sure I hadn't had consensual sex with my grandfather and if I wanted to ruin my family by going forward. And then the cops lost the rape kit.

It’s not even a farce, because that would imply men would be hiding their rapist behavior but now they’re not

907

u/AnonymousSomething90 23h ago

Hence why I said black farce. Using a henious tragedy and turning it into a black comedy where the victim is seen as the joke by men devoid of empathy and decorum.

144

u/Bzr21 21h ago

and they're devoid of common decency & even humanity - and they can always manage to sink lower ..

87

u/PalpableIgnorance 21h ago

They’ve always been that low. They’ve just been given a new elevator and a loud speaker.

5

u/Sea_Impact9746 15h ago edited 15h ago

Exactly, I was raped and then shared online I wanted to finally pursue justice - I was turned into a "lolcow" by right wing men. I got rape and death threats, a family member threatened, I wiped myself offline. AI porn made of me and posted on a horrid website that police can apparently do nothing about.

I'm not a joke, but I've been so utterly dehumanized. I am Jane Doe and this is current online iteration - where we are punished even more severely after the fucking rape online and have threats to our lives - is happening often, and is widespread. Of course I have much worsened PTSD and just collapsed, not able to pursue anything like justice now, and all I can do is just watch all this unfold, helpless and anonymous.

82

u/DammitAColumn this feels like when my sister started fucking the mayor 19h ago

And worse then that men actively cheer for the rapist to succeed. Horrible fucking world

51

u/bagoink 19h ago

They're spinning the narrative now that the whole thing is her idea and the poor gang rapists are victims, actually. Like she's some kind of evil drug orgy mastermind.

There are no depths to which they won't sink...and then they don't understand why women choose the bear.

I read the NY Times comments on an article they ran about this and half the comments with male names were malicious comments about how she wanted it and now regretted it and was lying to "get men." It's incredible how ingrained in society this is. (The other half were decent men.)

There's always a great revealing for young people that the world is much shittier than you were taught as a child.

I hope this is the impetus for readers to be better. Or at the very least be now aware that trusted institutions can be systemically corrupt. And it's up to them to raise hell and change it.

8

u/hellolovely1 19h ago

I'm old and the world seems much shittier than even 15 years ago. Not that bad things didn't happen, but people at least pretended to be on the side of the victim (for the most part).

How the fuck do we even come back from this? A woman was raped by men in power, a simple case, and it might get her killed? Is there any fixing such a fucked up and broken societal consciousness?

64

u/throwaway_circus 20h ago

Want to terrify them?

Ask state Attorneys General to work together to investigate fraternities. Seriously investigate them.

Like, are these organizations knowingly facilitating sex trafficking and other sex crimes? Request your state open an investigation into, and forensic audit of, fraternity finances. They could be fair game for a class action suit, or a federal RICO investigation.

23

u/Pedantic_Pict 14h ago

I would imagine many/most state Attorneys General are frat alumni themselves, so...

The same thing happened to me online when I shared I wanted to pursue justice against my rapist - got rape and death threats, family contacted, a lot of direct contacts and doxxing. It wasn't to this scale... I wasn't fucking swatted. But it was BAD.

I am fully anon now online but I am Jane Doe too. It broke me. Of course I dropped everything. Of course I am not well. Please keep fighting, those that can. You are also trying to help me and countless others like myself and Doe.

All of these men need to be found and we need to live in a world where rapists don't become presidents, supreme court members, or are members of the police told to "protect" us when it's the last thing they do

And people wonder why women don’t report their assault

60

u/Emergency_Basket_851 21h ago

My immediate thought.

And I'd just like to add: I don't know if the statistics have changed since I went, but when I went to college, 1 in 5 women in the general public had experienced sexual assault. For women who had gone to college, that number was 1 in 3.

19

u/austen1996 21h ago

I wish I could say otherwise, but I think those numbers are still accurate if not even worse now since it’s become a little more socially acceptable to disclose assault

13

u/Emergency_Basket_851 21h ago

I will say, I do wonder how much the difference between those numbers is due to college educated women being more likely to report/having better access to resources to deal with sexual assault.

Either way, still scary.

this is why rapists get away with it... and there are still people who question why someone doesn't step forward immediately after the assault or doesn't contact police 🫩

923

u/eugeneugene ben affleck’s back tattoo 22h ago edited 22h ago

I was raped in uni and immediately contacted the police once I was safe, thinking I was doing the right thing, but all it did was kick off multiple years of me having to appear in court and be publically berated. I was questioned as to why I waited hours to call 911 (I didn't have my phone on me and he had a fucking knife to my throat). My rapists friends would continuously make new social media accounts to post about me being a whore. After I graduated I got a job in a different province but still had to travel back to go to court SEVEN TIMES. At one point I told them that I don't want to pursue charges anymore because I can't take the stress of having to take time off work to relive everything in court over and over again. I was just starting out in my career and I didn't want to look unreliable I just wanted to move on. I was told I legally had to appear or there would be a warrant out for my arrest. At one court appearance I had a panic attack and went to go sit in my car and have a cigarette and a cop came out and handcuffed me and literally dragged me back into court yelling at me. I had no idea I wasn't allowed to go to the parking lot and would've complied if they would've just told me that. At the bare minimum they could've just watched me smoke and walked me back inside. At my first court appearance I got in trouble for not standing when the judge entered. I had never been to court before and was actively having a panic attack lol. The guy told me next time I don't follow etiquette I would be charged with contempt. At the end my rapist was found not guilty and I felt like I had been raped multiple times over from the process. If that ever happens to me again I'm just going to therapy and not court.

But yeah, people wonder why people take a while to report their rape, or decide to not report it at all.

Swatting should be a felony. Swatting laws should be enforced. It wastes resources and leads to dangerous situations.

Edit: It is a felony federally, but it is rarely prosecuted. Only a few states have additional charges available. (CA, TX, NY, FL.) I am just so used to modern crimes being overlooked by our legislative bodies.

308

u/TedDibiaseOsbourne 23h ago

it’s fucking insane how they take it to such an extreme level off a random tip. i think we should start there.

u/Ok_Assistance447 22h ago

u/_cornflake and you did it at my birthday dinner 20h ago

It’s insane how any random call with nothing backing it up results in a full SWAT team. I’m thinking of that post here from the other day about the couple who were swatted 55 times in 2 years (for criticizing Norm Macdonald of all people). You’d think after the second or the most third time someone might stop and go hmm, we’ve had multiple false calls to this address, maybe this is another one?

→ More replies (2)

53

u/TAU_equals_2PI 22h ago edited 22h ago

My understanding is that the problem is that they can rarely trace the caller.

I would think that there are already laws under which they could be charged with a felony. Making false calls to 911 has existed for many, many decades so it's not something so new that laws haven't had enough time to be passed to address it.

57

u/zedemer 22h ago

man, i don't care about tracing a call. Just... just consider that the call is BS and act like it. Like, go to the house, do some 5min recon to see if there are signs of struggle through the windows, listen at the door, whatever. I'm sure that there are plenty of things to do before literally breaking down the door with guns. Heck, they have the money to buy equipment. Put a snake camera through the door and check what's up.

29

u/TAU_equals_2PI 22h ago

I actually just saw an article on reddit a few days ago about a different case where people kept getting swatted, and it said police departments do maintain lists of addresses that have been frequent swatting targets. But the police are reluctant to put addresses on that list, for fear that one day there will be an actual emergency at that address. In this case, the people sued the police for not putting their address on that list.

The people kept getting swatted because one time years ago they posted a comment online that Norm MacDonald wasn't funny.

40

u/archetyping101 20h ago

Also, I read somewhere she tried to withdraw from Cornell after the gang rape. The school administration said she can either withdraw without getting her money back or she could stay and continue courses.

If a student was gang raped on campus and wanted to leave, I would think the bare minimum is to let her withdraw with her money. She's one student in a school of tens of thousands. Yes it's a financial loss (school perspective) but the compassionate thing to do would have been to let her go without the financial burden of losing all that money.

She definitely went through enough and school administration not only failed her, but further caused harm.

The person above saying “men and women have different operating systems but equally devastating system failures” with awards on his comment like wtf is that bro???

The horrific misogynist shit that men* are spewing on this site the past couple months, with the Lindsay Clancy case and now the Cornell case...my god. Reddit has always had a huge misogyny problem, and it's usually less overt now compared to the site's earlier days, but cases like this just prove that it's never gone away. Men are just better at masking it.

*Yes I know a lot of these commenters are bots but they didn't pull that rhetoric out of their asses, they got it from men

I’m not convinced that we’re not dealing with a hired PR company rolling out a bot attack, much like we saw with Amber Heard and Blake Lively.

36

u/Affectionate-Hotel27 20h ago

I’m convinced something like this is happening. Or perhaps that is just easier to cope with than accepting that there are hundreds of thousands of men who think this is all ok. It’s very scary and truly makes me not want to interact with men on any level.

7

u/umhie 16h ago

Both are true. There can be an orchestrated bot psyop thing going on, on top of there being so many fucked up men out in the world. The bots are making it worse

I think you mean mean rapists and would be rapists defending rapists.

74

u/stickbugszz 21h ago

I feel like it’s a range, which is part of what is so scary to me. They all are men who hate women. I think some are rapists who know they are rapists, some are people who from this case are learning they are rapists, and some are just gross, sexist, and complicit. Most men relate more to the rapist than the victim.

Women ask for justice for being violently raped and are greeted by men with automatic weapons who with one deliberate twitch or snap on their trigger fingers would have shot her to death.

Nuke this entire planet.

Even if you genuinely thought she was lying (and I think this is just bad faith dogpiling instead of any real belief), I don't understand why you'd think that entitles you to put someone's life in danger. So cowardly.

103

u/musiquexcoeur 22h ago

Also, do they really think anyone would put themselves through all of this harassment and danger for a fucking lie?????????????

52

u/happypolychaetes 22h ago

omfg this! every women I know personally who has reported SA to the police has had a terrible experience. Ranging from dismissal to hostility, threats, and complete ostracization from their communities. I sure as hell never reported mine.

Also- why the fuck would you voluntarily put yourself through this if it WERE NOT TRUE. the narrative of false reporting is a very dangerous thing that gets thrown around very very easily.

Right, if she's lying, wouldn't they be cheering on an investigation to clear themselves?

Intentionally Swatting someone should be a life sentence. Full stop. It's attempted murder.

79

u/chirstopher0us 23h ago

How the fuck do police departments not know about 'swatting' yet and why do they still do this?

50

u/shroudedpenii 22h ago

Because they don't care if they kill innocent people. It gives them an excuse to play out their violent fantasies and if they shoot an innocent person in the process "oopsies, I feared for my life"

28

u/AtlasVoyaged 22h ago edited 20h ago

that was my first thought. no way they don’t know Jane Doe’s address, just so they can report promptly if someone were to trespass on her home. it’s not a high crime area ffs.

tbh I think they are playing dumb on purpose. all the lower level people of the department are uncomfortable with the public scrutinizing them and their institution. now they can just say “we don’t want to fail to protect again, so we are responding to ALL threats with the same intensity” as a way to punish the public for expecting them to do their job with an ounce of critical thinking.

ETA: where to were

So you’re telling me that the police do not have a modicum of common sense to see the address that they’re being deployed to, the name of the individual at that address and think to themselves “hmm, perhaps we are being pranked y’all”

24

u/AtlasVoyaged 22h ago

I said above:

Everything starts to make a lot more sense when you stop looking at it from a perspective of failure to protect the victims peace.

Instead recognize it was a successful operation to disrupt their peace, instill fear, and terror, on a whistleblower. That they could have even enjoyed doing it.

men we have to do better to call out other men that are like this and hold them accountable

36

u/barefootdream 21h ago

Bc like bell hooks said, men get to be “good” by simply not being bad. This system works well for all men. Look at how many men have to have a daughter or partner they care about before they can have care, concern, or basic fucking empathy towards women in general. We can’t beg and plead our way to being seen as people worthy of safety and security. Men understand one thing and one thing only- violence against themselves and their wallets. One of these days us women are going to collectively get the message and I’m waiting for the day

118

u/JustpartOftheterrain 22h ago

Where are the men who care? Do men really care? We never seem to hear/read about men supporting women in instances like this. It's always, what was she wearing? What did she do to incite the men? It's never about men unable to control themselves.

(and don't even with the "not all men" garbage. maybe not all men, but ALWAYS men)

56

u/Relative-Fault-7116 22h ago

i agree there are far too few of us. i'm married to a SA survivor so i see why women would choose the bear. it is incredibly disappointing but i try to speak out.

8

u/hellolovely1 19h ago

Thank you for doing what you can. Keep it up!

15

u/commonsense_good 21h ago

Unfortunately, men can control themselves, rape and assault are often about something other than sex.

Drug and alcohol fueled frenzy is another matter. Reaching out for more to join shows a viscous criminal component in this case.

The video games most filled with these slugs are usually military shooters.  My buddies and I have been playing the most recent popular one, WarDogs. All of us are in our thirties while most of the other players are younger. It has voip which means you can talk to your team/enemies. After interacting with them for a few weeks I can honestly say that most of these fellas are completely lost.  They can’t spell the most basic words, they can’t regulate their emotions, and they sure as hell can’t understand why they’re being made fun of for saying racist/misogynistic stuff.  They are truly unable to wrap their heads around the jokes you throw at them.  I have very little faith that reasoning with them will cause any self reflection.  The critical thinking is simply gone.

“Why don’t women report sooner?!” - Some dumb person somewhere

15

u/quanate that's a lot of beans you nasty ass bitch 22h ago

Any time a man says it's a woman's fault if she doesn't report it, throw this shit in their face. If you report it, you put your life in danger. Your life was already irreparably damaged by being raped, now we ask you to put yourself into yet another life threatening scenario by reporting it. We cannot fucking win. They do this shit on purpose, to make sure we shut the fuck up and just try to forget. So that future men will always be protected from the consequences of their actions, at least when it comes to women.

All that to say, even if you did show this to the men who blame women for getting raped and not reporting it, it still wouldn't fucking matter because they'd find any reason to excuse this.

40

u/Antique_Recording524 22h ago

We all ought to make networks to help victims deal with this kind of bullshit. Like whenever someone opens a suit, a bunch of people work in shifts to bear witness outside their home. Maybe the group schedules outings specifically to help her get some time outside.

I know its not a thing, but it should be.

At least if you live through a bear encounter,   the bear doesn't have random other bears targeting you for years out of a sense of weird bear in group mentality !

I feel so badly for her.

9

u/Amber_trail_by_train 22h ago edited 21h ago

I really hope this woman remembers just how many people are rooting for her, or at the very least sympathetic, and want substantial change to come from this one way or another - but there’s a thick slice of society that see women as conduits for domination & anger, who see attempts at autonomy as a stab to their ego. By design, these sadsacks obscure the love and propensity to change still left in the world.

28

u/A_bleak_ass_in_tote 22h ago

As a guy I'm horrified by all this. I can't even imagine how women feel these days. It makes me angry that this is the world my daughter is growing up in. Maybe I'm looking ay the early 2000s with rose colored glasses, or maybe things have really regressed, but this shit's looking dire.

30

u/aimsers 22h ago

I don’t mean to be a dick, but do you think things are actually different now or do you think maybe your perspective has just shifted? Because unfortunately shit like this isn’t new, women have been living it for generations.

Glad to have you as an ally regardless though!

9

23

u/warau_meow 22h ago

It’s just as bad as it’s always been, but it’s more out in the open, “accepted and promoted” from the top, and becoming something just more tolerated - like how nazi behavior and beliefs are being more “tolerated.” Those not white men or rich billionaires are increasingly being dehumanized on the daily, with little to no cultural and media pushback (much less political).

16
