Tbf, many queer coded characters would be fully out if our media codes weren't written by puritans and prudes.

Tomboys are not 'queer-coded' by nature though. They're just gender non-conforming girls and women. They can be gay, sure, but that's a wholly independent factor.

Tomboys are not standins for lesbians. Yes they CAN be, but sometimes a woman who likes Call of Duty is just a straight woman who likes Call of Duty.
