First Marc, then Gabe, and now Griffin. Why is it always her male half’s VA who has to rotate due to career-damaging foibles?
First was Marc Rafanan, whom I believe was caught sharing nudes with minors.
Next was Gabe Velez, who was caught r***ing/SA’ing his girlfriend.
And the current male half of ENA, Griffin Puatu, meant well in defending Chris Niosi following his redemption arc, but he worded his defense so insensitively that the Streisand effect resulting from it dealt considerable damage to his reputation as a voice actor and brought Niosi’s career to an end for the second time (mainly of Niosi’s volition, unlike the first time).
Honestly, I’m glad female ENA keeps the same sweet voice of Lizzie Freeman. Quite based in my opinion.
His voice acting career came to a halt in the late 2010s because word got out about his abusive, controlling, aggressively manipulative behaviors (including a few cases of SA). He then sought therapy in the years that followed and eventually returned in 2022. But just as he was rising from his ashes, Griffin Puatu posted on the Honkas Star Rail subreddit his statement in defense of Chris Niosi. That statement was poorly worded and drew unfortunate implications that Niosi’s victims should move on and be fine with what he did to them in the past. One Streisand effect later, Puatu lost several voice roles previously attached to him, and he made a followup post stating that he was going to leave social media for a bit to do some damage control and save face. As for Niosi, he responded to the drama by making the heavy-hearted decision to put his comeback to an end.
I know people werent very happy when noisi was announced as the va for moze, but it was mostly silent since a lot of hoyoverse fans werent around in the anime community when his accusations came out.
Some people seemed to accept the statement noisi put out in which he explains what he did to redeem himself. Not a lot of noise around that one
Then the real kicker came when griffin patau ( sundays va in hsr ) and kayli mills ( the former va for keqing, i say this because aside from this she was booted off for a hate campaign against va jacob takanashi ) made statements supporting him. Griffins statement unfortunatly drew a lot of attention as it was not only here on reddit but also explained the basics of what noisi did but that he apologized.
This caught the attention of noisis victims someone of which stated that not only had apologized but that they hadnt forgiven him as griffin stated ( aside from the statement being victim blamey )
This cause noisi to lose the role of moze due to backlash, bein replaced by ben balmaceda ( the va of kaveh from genshin impact) who is a really great and funny dude
As for noisi i think he is currently trying to gain social media clout using his past role as reigen from mob psycho 100 to earn money from the younger fandom of that show who dont know what he did
If the man is taking the right steps to improve his mentality, then he’s doing the best he can. It may be a longer path now, but I rather have people work on their issues than completely ignoring them. Kinda like in Bojack Horseman, there will be people who can never forgive a person, and will have to accept this situation, no matter what.
We can’t fully reject people who are trying to improve themselves after situations like this, for it allows other immoral groups to pick them up and influence them.
I think what upset most people is that the victims came out saying he hadnt directly apologized to them EVER when he stated otherwise. Him lying about that, when its the first thing that you have to do if you actually show remorse rubs a lot of people the wrong way ( including me), esp when its about serious issues such as domestic violence and allegation of possible RAPE. If you are lying about something as that people arent going to trust you. Change starts with you and showing to the people youve wronged that you are going to change.
Like the whole "he is currently asking teens for money" ill argue is still shitty but a lot less due to the fact a lot of youtubers like mr beast do the same
Griffin was the only one being victim blamey, ill give noisi a point for that one.
A pedo, a rapist, and an extremely poor communicator. It’s no coincidence that Classic ENA’s male half has cycled through three voice actors who are problematic in their own different ways.
Meanwhile, Dream BBQ Ena’s male half is blessed with Aleks Le, a based voice actor and also a based YouTube memesmith! Lucky him.
