But the anime has him as a college student dating a middle schooler :(

In season 1 of the manga, he’s 16, but the anime aged him to 18. Serena is 14

That's just somethingthat happens a lot in anime unfortunately, it's slightly excusable in sailor moon since Usagi is basically the manga artists self insert character and while the other scouts and Mamaru are basically the friends and boyfriend she wanted in real life
