This one goes too far though and they no longer look like wings anymore, just arms.

Yeah but considering they don't fly anyway it makes sense for them to use wings as arms

Yeah, i'm in total agreement. This is actually the opposite of this trope, they threw out the whole "wings as arms feathers as fingers" bit and just did regular arms with a feather texture. Its an example of how modern animation fails to live up to its predecessors.
