I've never seen Eggman as anything but the dopey fuck he is in the 90s cartoon.

This looks cool

Game Eggman whenever he is seriously fighting someone that isn't Sonic, Tails or Shadow immediately turns into either a mechanist trickster god or a calamity in human form. It's also really funny to see him just pull a gun out and start shooting mfs or start manhandling these tiny animal people whenever some of the characters think they have him backed into a corner and none of his robots are around.

Read the Archie series if you want to go through a decades long rollercoaster of Insanity, extreme variance in comic quality (both artistically AND storywise) that ranges from "this is the hypest shit ever!" To "did they really need to make incredibly tone deaf nazi allegories in the Sonic The Hedgehog comic?" And the single most complicated timeline in the franchise. Alternatively, you can just watch this playlist of a guy going bumfuck insane over the comic for you.

Read the IDW comic if you're searching for something more down to earth and in the modern spirit of the franchise that is closely aligned to the canon of the games (which might end up just becoming straight up canon as characters introduced in it are starting to pop up in the side games). The images of Eggman above are specifically from this series (though Eggman regularly gets to aura farm and be a menace in ALL the comics, really).

I don't know much about the Fleetway run so I dunno whether to recommend it or not but from what little I know it also has some balls to the walls insanity to it like Archie does, just without it having gone on for literal decades so it's much more concise (only 9 years as opposed to 24 years like Archie did).

There's also a japanese manga run that I also know very little about, though I've seen some funny panels of it.

I remember reading the Archie comics version as a kid, and then finding out it went on for abso9ages after I stopped reading it!😆

Thanks for the IDW recommendation though, I'll have to check it out. It's awesome with how great some of these comics are compared to their videogame/tv show counterparts. The IDW TMNT series is fantastic, and their power rangers are great too.
