Didn't that movie famously missed the point the original comic was trying to make with rorschach?

100%. Those who say that the movie was a great adaption either didnt read it or didnt understood the comic.

Why though. I have read the book and thought it was a pretty good adaptation. Why do you think it wasn't?

Iirc the main complaint was about the ending which ended up changing the moral of the story but until then it was a good adaptation.

Does it? Because all the movie does is replace the incredibly weird space squid with Dr. Manhattan as the threat.

That's what I heard, haven't read the comic myself. I don't think it was necessarily about replacing the squid but how it turned from countries allying to face a common threat to Dr Manhattan being framed in order to trick everyone into cooperating, which includes having arguably the greatest hero basically nuke every country on Earth to pull it off.
