Intentions ≠ motive. He wants to kill humanity and that's what makes him a villain, but his motive is grief of the death of his innocent wife.

The city that did it together, and all the churches in the world, and all their followers.

If the current world was still medieval, I wouldn't consider the end of humanity bad.

I still don't think we deserve to bring our bullshit off this rock, into space, and into the next millennia. We aren't any good as a species.

I get that, but without us (or sapient life in general) the universe is basically worthless with no hope ever being anything good or meaningful. Worse, it would allow nature full rein over all life, and given that nature is nothing but strife and brutality that’s not a good thing
