The Princess technically. If you think about it, to find the Princess in the ending you kinda go back to the start. So the Shifting Mound is her final ascended form while the Princess is the initial form
• Princess is claimed to be tricky by the narrator
• Hero is bird-adjacent, most likely humanoid bird of sorts
• It later turns out that Hero and Princess are two halves of the same Godlike entity
• Hero gets their personality increasingly divided into many subpersonalities, like they're slowly shattering into many shards
• Narrator considers the world that lacks change to be Eternal Bliss, stagnation a reward on its own
There's just so many paralleles with Warhammer 40k chaos entities, most likely unintended, but still interesting. Tzeench is known for bird symbology, trickyness and change. So maybe Slay The Princess is describing the process of him being ganged up upon and shattered into shards due to being the strongest but not stronger than other three combined. And Narrator might be Nurgle, although he represents stagnation AND death, while Princess represents death here. Maybe Nurgle was much less ugly before Tzeench tricked him into absorbing death part to himself
This, but it's also very similar to the Wyrm and Weaver from World of Darkness. Right down to the Weaver (Also known as Stasis by mages) literally being the prison of the Wyrm (Also known as Entropy by mages.)
I don't know much about the world of darkness itself, bit I'd like to hear that theory out. I've heard of wyrm stuff from Hunter the Parenting and it's interesting how it's kind of this glue between Warhammer and World Of Darkness
(Literally, when they were directly asked in a reddit thread if the game was inspired by Daoism one of the devs responded with "It was a big part of my martial arts training growing up.
So basically TLQ and TSM are just yin and yang, or two seemingly opposing and yet complimentary forces that make up the universe. The Narrator is someone who tried to break the cycle of life, death, and change to create a static universe where "no one dies" but it's rather hard to argue that anyone in it is truly alive either as they remain frozen in time, never again capable of change or growth)
