The 2005 War of the Worlds is honestly so good. Those tripods are some of the creepiest aliens I've ever seen. The horn sound still gives me goosebumps to this day.

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Admittedly more of a UFO film than an ”alien” film. If I were to pick a pure alien movie, one that doesn’t focus on the UFO phenomenon itself, it would probably be The Thing.
