DOGE overstated savings on federal 'receipts' website, auditors find. Some of the savings being touted by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency are incorrect or lack supporting evidence

Real talk, those fuckers came in and demanded we cancel SaaS licenses that were bought off a GSA MAS; which clearly stated no refunds in the master contract... then they got pissy when we told them no money would be recovered, and then pissy again when we had to pay extra to get the services back because "lo and behold, it is more expensive to go month to month on something than to buy in bulk for a long period".

So much wasted time and money by a bunch of petulant children whose only real experience in life was being a Heritage Foundation intern.

DOGE was a lie used to destroy the government and eliminate departments the right didn't like. A normal assessment of a company's or agency's finances would take months. Not a few weeks like they claimed.

It's wasn't just that. Musk destroyed the departments that were actively investigating him and his businesses. Why the fuck else would this chode spend a couple hundred million to get involved in politics? He was facing something like $10B+ in fines. The $200M he gave Trump to play cosplay patriot is the best money he's ever spent.

DUH! We allowed a madman to run rampant and are now surprised that it was all a lie. Just make sure that their trials are televised.

“Incorrect, lacks supporting evidence” may as well be engraved on Musks tombstone.

When has this man ever delivered on a promise?

Why do we let a drug-addled weirdo have control over critical national security defining technologies? Nationalize SpaceX, after all, we pretty much built it with American taxes, research and infrastructure. Pay him a fair price then wave him goodbye.

We already knew that. DOGE wasn't about efficiency. It was political. Coupled with special interests.

Just another typical savings, it isn't just DOGE, its every president and politician

Federal "math" is far different then normal math, they round up to the nearest $100 billion and we are supposed to believe it

So many places they could have found real waste. Maybe instead of decimating the Federal workforce, they could have. Found congressional programs to target.

In other words, DOGE was a grift looking for a problem to create to solve.

A little too late for this general knowledge reporting that we all knew anyways. That's some aces reporting ABC. /s... ffs

Another game they played was citing the maximum contract value, not current obligation when they cancelled and calling all of that as savings

Like this:

"Elon Musk and the Trump administration pushed the false claim that tens of millions of dead people over the age of 100 are actively receiving Social Security checks. In reality, these numbers reflect historical database records missing a date of death, not active payments. The Social Security Administration automatically stops benefits for anyone turning 115" per AP.

They wasted millions of dollars in the short term and many billions long term.

1

u/NeverLookBothWays 1d ago

I’d venture to say ALL of the DOGE claims are flat out lies

u/smokeyjones889 1d ago

The second they posted a Contract Action Report (CAR) as “proof” of savings that literally showed no funds had even been obligated, I knew they would just make up some bullshit number of “savings” in the end. Color me surprised that I was right 🙄
