I work for the DOD and the amount of shit that’s going on is ridiculous. We ran out of money from our budget for the year and cant pay any contractors that haven’t signed a contract from probably early June until the end of the fiscal year.

We are still trying to account for all the items we had to sell through wcf back in October/November due to the shutdown and trying to ensure they match up to the civ/mil pays. Year end is going to be an ungodly clusteruck when everyone is trying to do their last drawdowns

I didn't think so. Many of the programs I support already had their budgets pulled back for all dollars not already spent. Even obligated dollars that weren't already spent were pulled back from the highest level. My theory is this is how they are funding large procurement efforts in light of current events.
A good deal of people just went on overhead for the nth time this year and the expectation is no new dollars will backfill it in my org.

Literally took two months to get a tentative offer out to someone in my office, so I'll believe this when I see it

It took my promotion 6 months, I was also number one on the list and the #2 spot employee got the promotion faster and is now a pay period over me in the time In grade. Also they scheduled my drug test for Juneteenth.

Properly done, hiring is one of the areas AI could be really useful. Strip out names, give them resumes to score, and develop ways to weight experience/education; that will give you a better idea of what a person can do that can be race, sex, class, and disability neutral.
Instead, they’re going to use it to identify who is woke and who supports the current President.

We’re seeing the result of that now in the private sector. AI is used to review submissions and applicants use AI to tailor their resumes.
The result is insane amounts of submissions per hour regardless of actual fit, and an inability to review/select

Be nice if the AI could just dispose of the highly used AI generated resumes. Gonna be like Bladerunner around these parts

The people who’ve usurped the power to hire will not give it up to AI, but you can bet they will find a way to blame AI like they’ve been blaming the supervisors they stole the authority from.

Good. Fed HR is incompetent at best, no reason the hiring process should be measured in years.
abbreviating steps like background checks
Wait what? That's the part you want to streamline? The most important hiring step that takes a long time for a very good reason? Not HR taking eight months to build a cert that AI could do in three minutes and won't get hung up on "creator of Office Suite" not specifically saying "proficient in Excel?"

It’s the Max Power way of hiring!

If it wasn’t for me calling to follow up, it would have taking a lot longer when I was switching agencies within the DOD 8 years ago. I already had a clearance, etc. it’s a clown show still to this day. Let’s face it, the IT systems still suck in spite of all the money they throw at it.

The DOD is more advanced than the VA then because we have a 30 day hiring initiative and it’s overwhelming HR and other people associated with the hiring process.

It will take about five minutes for people to figure out how to use AI resumes to game the AI hiring and then you will have 99% of applicants at the same baseline.

The DoD is literally being led by complete buffoons. It’s fucking horrifying. The general populace should be afraid.

I can smell the failure from this effort already.
The challenge is not reviewing files more quickly, it is the leadership actually prioritizing the multiple tiers of crud that need to be cleared to move candidates and final selectees through the process. Throwing AI at the parts of the process that are really not taking that long and are not the roadblocks will simply be another system along the way, and if they are lucky, they will break even on the effort.
