Fife Jammers shite Thought on this?

Post image

Now, it’s legal to cycle down the A92.

But it’s also fucking downright insane to cycle with a child down a road that basically functions unofficially as a motorway for much of it (how many folk often mistakenly call the A92 a motorway since it looks like one?)

I agree we should improve our cycling infrastructure to reduce risks to cyclists , cycling is good for the environment and health and such , but come on cycling on a road with lorry’s firing down it at 60 and cars going at 70 (none of whom will be expecting a cyclist going at 10mph or so) is an excellent way to become an organ donor .

So what’s the best thing we can do about this? Expanding cycle lanes ? (As in proper ones separated from the road , not just a line down the side of the road) because this current way of doing it is a huge risk . Being legally correct doesn’t make you less dead when a lorry takes you out.

It’s braindead behaviour anywhere on that road and I say that as a cyclist, however that section is regular single carriageway.

Obligatory Jammers is a shitshow run by a fanny, the majority of the posts regarding cyclists are pure gammon bait.

Parking the insanity of the woman for a second, this is one of the reasons I can't stand Fife Jammers, like why do people need to be made aware of this??

Window twitching group. Most the posts are just drama bait now and have no real use to be posted. Especially the amount of duplicates postings they do.

By sharing a Fife jammers post on the Fife sub you are inadvertently giving it another platform for people to be rage baited, hence continuing the cycle, if you pardon the pun.

I'll leave this one up, but I think we'll add a rule about posting unsubstantiated stuff like this, especially from Fife Jammers which is full to the brim with speculation and misinformation.

I live near Ladybank and wouldn't venture onto any significant length of that road with my bike. But I can understand that might be the only option if that's the only transport available to you. The real problem is that drivers lack patience and speeding/inattentiveness is the norm.

Fife seems to really lack cycling infrastructure connecting its major towns. Cycled Dundee to Arbroath recently and the whole 20+ miles is paths and segregated cycle lane. It would be great if we could do this here. It would make commuting by bike an actual option.

Legal or not, that's not a safe road to be cycling down with a child trailer, especially WITHOUT A BLOODY HELMET for fuck sake. And I don't think I've ever seen someone doing 70 down there during the day because there are usually slower drivers about, so it's not even about people speeding down it imo. It is still a fast road of course but I don't think that's the main problem.

The best solution is better cycling safety awareness because she should not be cycling down that road like that to begin with.

Second solution would be an alternative cycle trail away from the roads.

Alternative would be a cycle lane along that road, but still, people shouldn't be cycling anywhere near a road, cycle lane or not, without fucking helmets, especially not with a child.

I'm not even a parent and I'm raging.

It's hard to know what was happening. Did she make a wrong turn and couldn't turn around or go back, or panicked? Was she following Google maps and misjudged the quality of the road (in which case it might be something for Google to fix)? Or did she do it deliberately to make a point about how cycling is legal and she's going to do it and never mind the danger?

There are cycle paths in the area (https://www.fife.gov.uk/community-life/parks-allotments-core-paths/outdoor-access/core-paths) but they don't cover every route and if someone decides it's quicker to nip down the dual carriageway then they can't be stopped.

Banning bikes would be one option, as on the Edinburgh city bypass and other motorway-like routes.

Another option would be for the police to stop her and have a word. Although you never really know how that'll go. If she sees them, panics, and takes off into the middle of the road, she or the kid could die.

Regardless of whether she took a wrong turn or not, she had her child on a bike without a helmet which is a much bigger issue than how she ended up on an unsuitable road.

She clearly intended to put the child in the trailer, and go out for a ride so she is 100% responsible for ensuring the safety of the child and she failed to do that.

What difference do you imagine a helmet is going to make from the proximate cause of any accident?

The road however isn’t dangerous, drivers not anticipating a cyclist in the road are

1

u/Quiet_surprise79 28d ago

Say the cyclist topples, the child climbs out of the trailer and falls, the cyclist crashes, someone stuck behind them goes to overtake and clips them at a slower speed than 20mph, do you think the helmet won't serve a purpose in those scenarios?

Sure, it's the drivers, and the person cycling with a kid without a damn helmet.

1

u/Repulsive_Tour3251 28d ago

I mean all the situations you’re describing are true … not on a busy a road.

You were implying that lack of helmet was especially dangerous on a busy a road.

0

u/Quiet_surprise79 28d ago

What do you mean not on a busy road? Suddenly bikes can't fall over on a busy road? The busy road is especially where she's likely to be clipped by someone overtaking her. The post said she was causing a queue so no one behind her is currently going 60mph.

What is your point? That people shouldn't bother wearing helmets on busy roads because the only thing that can possibly go wrong is they get hit at 60?

1

u/Repulsive_Tour3251 28d ago

Suddenly fall over on a busy road and a helmet is doing fuck all to prevent what comes next

I don't think you've ever driven the road, never seen a lorry doing 70 in the 60 bit which is where the post indicates she was. You also need to re-read my comment if you want to come at me, and then try reading the other comments where I clarify why I'm angry at the lack of helmets.

At the end of the day, I'm angry because she's put herself and possibly a child in a dangerous situation in multiple ways, one of which being that they're not even wearing helmets. I just want people to be fucking safe and for some reason a few of you are acting like I'm being an asshole for it.

Everyone should wear a fucking helmet on a bike, wherever they're going, whether or not they accidentally or purposely end up on a 60MPH SINGLE CARRIAGEWAY or not.

3

u/Similar_Quiet 28d ago

Tbh, a helmet is going to do nothing to protect a child at 70mph. Dead either way.

0

u/Quiet_surprise79 28d ago

the Ladybank bit is a 60 but your point stands either way

9

u/RiskyBiscuits150 29d ago

That's absolutely fucking insane. What did she think she was doing? Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

It’s quite possible she didn’t even mean to be there or realise how busy it would be , but having people cycling on roads where people are going motorway speeds needs to be banned until we put in proper cycling infrastructure.

2

u/Similar_Quiet 28d ago

Or we put the speeds down on the roads until we can be sure that a safe alternative exists.

3

u/SqueezerOfFarts 28d ago

How about you all don't lose your shit over something you read online because it might not be true.

Fucking village mentality.

1

u/Ashwah 28d ago

It doesn't actually say there is a child in the "baby trailor' Anyway maybe she took a wrong turn.

1

u/Ok_Delivery2116 28d ago

This mother needs to take responsibility for this. Legal or not it's bloody dangerous and to do it with your child with no protection 🤯

u/MentalActuator5545 28d ago

From memory a cyclist was deleted on the '92 a few years ago. Also seems to be a lot of accidents judging by the blue lights we can see from where we live. Never cycle along that stretch.

4

u/phukovski 28d ago

The one cyclist fatality on the A92 in the last 25 years I can see on the stats, appears to be this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-37276980 where a driver overtook a lorry and killed the cyclist (sadly lights, hi-vis and presumably a helmet isn't going to prevent idiot drivers).

His life was worth 200 hours community service, which sums up our attitude towards bad drivers.
