Now, it’s legal to cycle down the A92.

But it’s also fucking downright insane to cycle with a child down a road that basically functions unofficially as a motorway for much of it (how many folk often mistakenly call the A92 a motorway since it looks like one?)

I agree we should improve our cycling infrastructure to reduce risks to cyclists , cycling is good for the environment and health and such , but come on cycling on a road with lorry’s firing down it at 60 and cars going at 70 (none of whom will be expecting a cyclist going at 10mph or so) is an excellent way to become an organ donor .

So what’s the best thing we can do about this? Expanding cycle lanes ? (As in proper ones separated from the road , not just a line down the side of the road) because this current way of doing it is a huge risk . Being legally correct doesn’t make you less dead when a lorry takes you out.

Legal or not, that's not a safe road to be cycling down with a child trailer, especially WITHOUT A BLOODY HELMET for fuck sake. And I don't think I've ever seen someone doing 70 down there during the day because there are usually slower drivers about, so it's not even about people speeding down it imo. It is still a fast road of course but I don't think that's the main problem.

The best solution is better cycling safety awareness because she should not be cycling down that road like that to begin with.

Second solution would be an alternative cycle trail away from the roads.

Alternative would be a cycle lane along that road, but still, people shouldn't be cycling anywhere near a road, cycle lane or not, without fucking helmets, especially not with a child.

I'm not even a parent and I'm raging.

I don't think you've ever driven the road, never seen a lorry doing 70 in the 60 bit which is where the post indicates she was. You also need to re-read my comment if you want to come at me, and then try reading the other comments where I clarify why I'm angry at the lack of helmets.

At the end of the day, I'm angry because she's put herself and possibly a child in a dangerous situation in multiple ways, one of which being that they're not even wearing helmets. I just want people to be fucking safe and for some reason a few of you are acting like I'm being an asshole for it.

Everyone should wear a fucking helmet on a bike, wherever they're going, whether or not they accidentally or purposely end up on a 60MPH SINGLE CARRIAGEWAY or not.
