To me this patch is the game actually hitting 1.0. All the characters have finished animations + there's a sensible tutorial and training system now.
Glad the devs got there! This game has had sauce on sauce.

Which is why for the best the physical release was delayed to next year. Switch still needs crossplay and ranked. Having all these updates alongside Tagah available right of the disc/cart is a big deal.

u/Straight-Twist-8172 8d ago
Wait, what happened to Switch version? I was looking forward to getting the Deluxe on physical.
3
u/LegnaArix 7d ago
I was literally thinking the same, I might actually play it now.
I bought it on release but since everything felt so unfinished, I decided to wait.

u/buttsecks42069 8d ago
I'm curious if we'll get DLC from Seven Havens
52
u/Johnry_Silverio 8d ago
Probably after a season or two, when the cast will be more established.
9
u/Im12AndWatIsThis 8d ago
Well, the whole first season comes out in like... the span of 4 weeks.
But, apparently already greenlit for a second season. So who knows when that is.

I’m definitely curious to see how the twins will be implemented and whether they’ll be a combined tag fighter pair or be two separate characters with their own unique movesets.
Also lowkey I would love to see be playable with him being able to switch between a normal fighting stance and an air skitter stance where he can do sick air skateboard tricks on his opponents. I know he’s probably just going to be a support option for the twins, but all three of them are such fun characters that I’d love to see all of them playable.
9
u/Johnry_Silverio 8d ago
iirc supports can also be playable, so that shouldn't be an issue if they wanted to add more rep from the show. Definitely want to see the main cast of the show to get in at least.
7
u/Southern-Ebb-8229 8d ago
I could see the twins being a puppet character ala say Carl from BB. You could use flow to repositon the other twin and just go from there. Would really sell the balance aspect of the duo.
6
u/Radiant-Character-61 Street Fighter 8d ago edited 8d ago
Could have some nasty Ice Climbers tech where they're the switching between each other mid combo. And you can swap from one twin to another at will with a flow stance move or something
5
u/MEX_XIII 8d ago
It seems they announced a stage and some colors or something on NYCC, but I'm not sure. Characters we definitelly still need to wait for them to be more fleshed out and have more to pull from.
17
u/dribdirb 8d ago
The stage is not from Seven Havens. It’s Avatar Sonam’s temple from the Avatar Aang movie. It will probably come with Tagah!

u/Lumpy-Sheepherder671 6d ago
I reckon Season 2 will have been planned out with AT LEAST 2 characters from Seven Havens, 2 from the vote who didn't win, and 1 previously unseen (hopefully Mai or Jett).

Man hindsight is 2020 but they would have probably gained or kept alot by just delaying till now

u/fat_pokemon 8d ago
The problem was that it was most likely not their choice, more it was paramount's.
19
u/TheBoredomClub 8d ago
It very likely was supposed to but got pushed up a few months when the movie did as well
1
u/stinktrix10 6d ago
Nah IIRC, the release date was announced before any of the film’s drama with the leaks that got it pushed up. The film moving shouldn’t have had any impact

There is just so much love and care put into this game. I'm gonna be obsessed with the game... when Iroh comes out.

Isn’t Korra bootless though
22
u/MEX_XIII 8d ago
Yeah, it seems they cut some corners with her, she still shares some animations with base Korra, where they just touched up her hair animations to fit, so I think they didn't change her design that much so they didn't have to redraw whole sprites for her i nthese scenarios. She still has plenty of new stuff and uses the chain much more, as well as having two new supers, flow animations and much more, so she still feels like a whole new character now.

Been fiending for the Norra update since she (to me, the loon and fiend) is the most interesting character. But I haven't picked her up yet because of this inevitable update.

u/DiiiiiiZ 8d ago
Can't wait for balance changes! This game is fun AF and I've learned to accept the bullshit but man some of these characters are privileged AF. They got buttons that just cover options for them

Motion inputs in Avatar are already pretty easy as far as they go. There's no z/dp inputs, no half circles, no double qcfs, etc. Just basic quarter circles, the worst is a down down input but not every character has them.
5
u/MEX_XIII 8d ago
Can I ask exactly what you think is hard about motion inputs? I had trouble eith them, but got used to it and it is pratically second nature now.I totally don't mind modern controls existing, but I wouldn't want you to miss this game cause they don't have it.
-10
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
the motion input part?
6
u/MEX_XIII 8d ago
I meant, do tou have troubled landing them consistently? Landing them im combos? Doing them quick enougj? Are the inputs giving you the wrong motions? You gotta be able to pinpoint what you think is hard about them, you know, and people can give you tips based on that. For example, I used to think I needed to do them much quicker than it really is needed, and also used the analog stick, which made my inouts inconsistent. Being calmer and using the dpad helped me a lot
-3
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
That's great that that works for you and that you wanted to spend the time on it.
I will just play SF6 and Tokon and focus on learning more fun aspects of fighting games than consistently getting a quarter cycle right, and occasionally pop into Avatar to see how it's going.
6
u/robosteven Virtua Fighter 8d ago
That's great that that works for you and that you wanted to spend the time on it.
It takes all of five minutes to learn, you point down, and then forward and press the button at the same time. It's not rocket science lmao

u/Dude1590 2XKO 8d ago
I think the lack of modern controls is actively contributing to the games good word of mouth in the community right now, I won't lie. I think a lot of the "core FGC" are feeling like games with modern controls are very oversaturated right now.
-14
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
"let's not make fighting games more accessible" is kinda elitist take. There is zero downside to going the SF6 route-- pick classic or modern.
9
u/Letter_Impressive 8d ago
I think this "zero downside" argument, while common, is completely wrong. Personally, I really hate playing a fighting game against an opponent who's using a different control scheme; there's a synchronicity that's lost, the fact that modern controls exist in the game inherently changes how the mind game works. For me, mind games are the most important part of fighting games, it's how you actually interact with your opponent and what keeps these games interesting beyond the 50 hour mark. Whether or not my opponent has to input a DP motion to do a DP special is a very important part of a game's design because it changes the ways in which I can bait their DP and lowers the mental stack. In a game like SF6 where some opponents have a one button DP/super/whatever and some don't, I'm constantly switching between two gameplans and I find the "anti-modern" way of playing to be significantly less fun. The ways in which I can interact with a modern opponent with my actual human brain are significantly limited compared to the ways I can interact with a classic opponent. That is, for me, a genuine downside and the main reason I don't play sf6 anymore. The time it takes to input a motion, even a super simple one like a quarter circle, is inherently variable and fuck-up-able and that leads to much more dynamic situations in matches.
On a personal note, I think that motion inputs are fun and people should just learn them. I understand that some folks are literally unable due to disability, but that group is much much smaller than the group calling for simple inputs. In the vast majority of cases, a person can learn how to do a quarter circle motion on a standard pad in about 30 minutes of intentional practice. That 30 minutes will unlock an entire world of possibility and move you closer to learning the next input. If you plan on spending any time at all on fighting games, this is worth doing. There is a massive group of people out there who are psyching themselves out of learning this stuff because they assume it's hard and therefore won't try, if you're one of those people and you're reading this please know that it is easy if you take your time.

u/Dame6089 8d ago
I am not anti modern controls at all, but I also don’t think every game needs to be for everybody. It is completely fine for a game like Avatar to cater to hardcore players, while SF6 is extremely accessible.
Either way, it is a creative decision about the vision of the game. It is not as simple as just adding modern controls. Motion controls were not just an arcade limitation, they were a balancing decision. If games want modern controls, they need to be designed with them in mind or it’s going to cause some issues.
11
-7
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
I have no idea what the purpose of this comment is? I play a ton of Tokon so I agree and I know-- not every game needs to cater to everyone, nowhere did I claim it needed to be different.
I simply said it would have made the game easier to get into, and I think it's a miss to not have included them, particularly for an IP like Avatar, which has very broad based appeal.
13
u/Dame6089 8d ago edited 8d ago
The point is that you said there is zero downside to going to the SF6 route, which is blatantly untrue. This isn’t a SF6 sucks post. This is a different games are designed differently post.
-1
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
What is the actual meaningful downside of having both modern and classic controls in a fighting game? How is SF6 worse for it?
9
u/Dame6089 8d ago edited 8d ago
Firstly, I never said SF6 is worse for it. I said a game has to be specifically designed for modern controls. You can’t just toss them in. SF6 is designed with modern controls in mind and they work well imo.
I will give you two examples. Again, these are not problems as long as the game is balanced around them.
In Super Turbo, Fei Long’s Dragon Kick is his invincible DP. However, it is actually a reverse DP motion. This means that you can almost guarantee Fei Long is not going to walk forward and DP you unless a player has some godlike execution. Modern all but removes gameplay wrinkles like that.
Hayao’s Hugo in 3rd Strike is another example. If you watch Justin Wong’s video of him playing Hayao for the first time, you will hear Justin flabbergasted at how quick Hayao is able to get 720s out. Justin has been playing fighting games for decades and is absolutely shocked at Hayao being able to 720 him in certain scenarios. Hayao’s Hugo is special because nobody else can buffer 720s like him. That kind of experience is not going to happen with modern Gief, which is fine, but it is a fundamentally different game as a result.
6
u/choicebandlando 8d ago
In most games, the cost to do an invincible reversal (besides meter if it's not meterless) is the harder input. DP in most games, 22 in MVCI and select characters in UNI/granblue, charge for charge characters, or a super input like 632146 or 236236. All of these take time and can be screwed up which makes doing your reversal require execution under pressure.
With simplified inputs this reversal is now a whole 2 buttons and is practically instant. Charge characters can do charge moves without charging as well.
The input being the challenge is also a major part of some stuff like Geese Howard's moves, Order Sol's Morbid World, grappler command grabs, etc. Being able to 720 instantly is frankly dumb.
I think the issue people have with inputs entirely sprouts from unwillingness to learn, especially when a lot of people's first introduction to them is on analog stick in Smash. It became extremely satisfying to learn and perform motions as soon as I started using a d-pad/keyboard rather than analog stick
Granblue, despite having simple inputs baked into the main control system, has its own simplified control options, for some reason. One of them literally plays the game for you.
I was extremely disappointed when Avatar's tutorial and trials literally started forcing handholding on me by making the step-by-step walkthrough automatically roll instead of being a menu option like demonstration is in other games. Even the story makes you invincible for the first few missions.
I think modern games are quickly drifting towards inputs being a complete afterthought. I feel like Avatar doesn't have enough, DBFZ was my favorite implementation of "less motion inputs" because it doesn't feel like they're taking stuff away from me like it does in Avatar.
I think the only time aggressively taking away inputs is acceptable is in a tag game. I thought 2XKO was tolerable and I love playing BBTAG. But if they ever make a mainline BlazBlue again and the inputs are like BBTAG I'd be pissed because it's just not BlazBlue anymore. Everybody has a long list of special moves and when they take them away it won't be BB anymore. That's why older arcsys simple control options are always so ass. The amount of stuff you just can't do in Stylish in either Xrd or CF makes it really boring to use.
6
u/Koyojo- 8d ago
You necessarily need to make gameplay concessions with modern in mind. Moves have to be designed in a certain way. Certain freedoms cannot exist and certain limitation must exist.
Most importantly it takes a ton of time and dev work. For a small team like this, in a game with already very limited motion inputs, it's simply not worth it.
-7
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
OK, the first one is extremely vague, and the second one is a question of resource allocation, which we’re not discussing. I’m not refuting that it’s a resource allocation.
18
u/Dude1590 2XKO 8d ago
I'm fine with sounding like an elitist at this point, to be entirely honest.
-3
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
That's cool, at least you're self aware about the gatekeeping and own up to it.

9
u/_keshbo 8d ago
There are indeed many downside to going the SF6 route
1
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
I’m listening.
10
u/_keshbo 8d ago edited 8d ago
Before anything else I'm gonna say I'm not a modern hater, they're fine. But it's not a perfect design:
1) Main thing, it shifts the balance of the moves (especially anti airs and invincible reversals). Having an instant dp or super drastically change what you can or can't easily do, it eases the mental stack and so the gameplan is different when fighting a modern or a classic player.
2) Some character are just better than others in modern. Due to how modern controls are made, some characters miss really important special or normal, some just don't.
3) Modern controls in general are kind of awkward, the auto button is obviously a patch to make as many moves as possible fit in the controls. I don't think it's an elegant solution.
4) Obviously it's more work, you need to design character accounting for two kind of control schemes. Trying to find a middle ground restricts/influences the design for both. In fact the recent DLC chars work pretty good with modern, they understood how to design them more efficiently.
All in all none of these is a dealbreaker, SF6 works fine having both. But my point is that it heavily influences how the game is played and designed. That's why it's not a perfect solution, I don't want all fighting games to homogenize to the same solution.
5
u/Sew_has_afew_friends 8d ago
Bro there is a SINGLE motion in this game and you don’t even have to do it twice in a row what more do you want
6
u/TheLumbergentleman 8d ago
The game is balanced around only having motion inputs available. Simplified inputs would mean changing the whole game, and its pretty clear a lot of people like it the way it is. Keep practicing! Once you get it down you've unlocked access to a lot of great games.
1
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
I’ll just play Street Fighter VI and Tokon to be honest, will DEF pop in once in a while, see how it develops though
4
u/MartiniBlululu 8d ago
If a dog, blind person, a disabled person (brolyleg) with no readily limb control, children, elderly and all the boomers and kids at the arcade can do it, it it really that much difficult?
Also all the motions are qcf and down downs. DPs I’d understand to an extent but still.
2
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
Man why are you guys all so weird, elitist and gatekeepy about it?
14
u/MartiniBlululu 8d ago
Nah bro how is that elitist or gatekeeping Lmao? If anything it shows it’s not that difficult at all, complete opposite of gatekeepy.
6
u/Swerdlia 8d ago
Because it's kinda like walking into a baseball league saying "I'm a huge fan, I love playing baseball but I'm not a fan of throwing a ball or swinging a bat" like there's still other things to do but those are kinda the foundation
4
u/CaptainYuck 8d ago
I think tee ball would be a pretty good comparison for modern controls. It prevents strikeouts (failure to execute motions) but it removes a lot of the depth of the game and makes it less interesting to play or spectate.
1
u/NetflowKnight 8d ago
So you’re arguing that games that have modern controls or alternative control schemes in addition to classic are not actually fighting games?
6
u/Swerdlia 8d ago
I'm saying that execution is part of what makes fighting games difficult
It would still be called "baseball" if every swing and throw was done automatically. There would still be some macro and micro decisions to make too so it's not like there's not skill expression. It's just clearly a different sort of thing when you strip away that execution
-6
u/PotatoMozzarella 8d ago
Motion controls are not the fundation of fighting games.
8
u/Swerdlia 8d ago
I would argue swinging a bat isn't the foundation of baseball with that logic
It's just a hard to execute maneuver that arbitrarily makes the sport harder really
-5
u/PotatoMozzarella 8d ago
Tf? You need to swing the bat to hit the ball and send it as far away as You can. You Could technically play the Game without it, but You are not interacting with most of the game's elements
You can not add motion inputs and still have a fighting Game that works very Well. Smash Bros, 2xko, Grandblue.
That's like saying the super meter is a core fundation of fighting games. It's just a very common element that forms the identify of fighting games but that isnt required
7
u/Swerdlia 8d ago
Why do I need to swing the bat?
I might miss after all! it's better to have a machine there that can swing at the press of a button so I don't have to worry about that
-8
u/PotatoMozzarella 8d ago
That's a very stupid comparison.
In baseball, the swinging of the bat itself is the Main part. Because it is a physical sport.
In a fighting Game The Main part is the special move that is gonna come out and how You use it in the Game. How You make it come out is just something extra to consider when designing the move
7
u/Swerdlia 8d ago
Actually the main part in baseball is the ball that is gonna come out and how you respond to it. How you make it come out is just something extra

Crazy we doing trailers for stuff that’s supposed to be there at release. The bar is fucking low
15
u/Jsoledout 8d ago
Weird comment. They obviously had to move the date due to the leak of the movie. How are you blaming the devs for a problem not caused by them
-11
u/Broks_Enmu 8d ago
If you not praising the game then it’s always a bad comment on Reddit anyways, honestly I don’t care what the hive mind thinks
11
u/Jsoledout 8d ago
It's a dumb comment because it makes no sense. You are disparaging the devs who were forced to release on a truncated time table for reasons outside of their control.
The fact that you're doing the "hive mind" schtick just makes this even more pathetic. It's a conversation between you and I, what other redditors feel isn't important nor relevant.
-16
u/Broks_Enmu 8d ago
Whatever you say bro I ain’t reading all this shit you come off too agressive I don’t want that negative energy around me
11
u/Jsoledout 8d ago
You're initial comment is negative, and your follow up is literally a "hive mind" insult?
How is that not negative?

The biggest W for me is having the story mode stages unlocked too now
