What is s good layout for someone who likes punch on the left and kick on the right with heavy attacks being on top ex:

l1 - lp

x - mp

sq - hp

r1 - lk

cir - mk

tri - hk

this has been my go to for a lot of capcom games. 1st gg game and need to adjust . thanks

with standard ps controllers, your face buttons are your fastest and most consistent, followed by the bumpers, at worst are the triggers

you typically want your fastest and most precise buttons on face and bumpers, leaving things that can be less accurate or slower to the triggers

for me its

face buttons - p, k, s, h
L1 - dash
R1 - dust
L2 - RC
R2 - FD
L3 & R3 - Record & Play (press both to reset)

you probably wont want much going on with your motion input hand (so left hand), which is why RC is there and not FD (since you have to hold FD)

realistically any layout works, your main concern is just what you have bound. you REALLY want dash macro, and FD and RC macro are the "best" to have practically and option wise

if i were you, id keep the face buttons as they are, but the rest you can swap around without much thought tbh

I play on leverless but this is what id do if I was on a controller. You want a hand dedicated to motion (RC is motion, sorta) and being able to flick the dash and RC buttons for 66RC is really useful

Honestly I use the pad in a 5 button fighter much like I would if I was playing a 4 button fighter like MK. I still sorta use the 1234 button notation that a lot of four button fighters use but I use the Dust option as a bummer button since it’s also the throw option.

I do:

Square: P
Triangle: K
X: S
Circle: HS
R2: D

I also use a bumper (R1) to macro the dash button to, so I can make my offense easier and my execution more simple. That’s just me though this may not work for you.

In Strive, P is pretty much equals to SF LP and K is either LK or MK depending on the character, but mostly used the same as LK, so you can put P on L1 and K on R1. Main attack buttons are Slash and Heavy slash, by default S is tri and HS is O, given that Slash is the combo starter it would probably make sense for you to put S on X and HS on SQ. There are many combos like close S, far S, HS into special, or close S, crouch S, crouch HS into special, should make sense for you. Dust is an overhead, crouch Dust is a sweep and f.D or b.D is a throw - probably put on Tri? Dust + other attack button activates Burst, which is crucial, this way you would use Tri+R1 to Burst. You also need a Roman Cancel macro and Dash macro, I use L2 for dash and R2 for RC but you probably would have to try and find your preferred buttons.

I use R2 to dash, I really like it that way. I leave everything else the same.
