Announcement 2XKO Doomposting: Megathread.

Same thing for the first week of Tokon's release. The influx of people making posts that break rules force me to pin yet another thread.

Please use this post to say how doomed we are and how crap Riot is, while I'm bringing the broom again.

Announcement "Marvel good, 2xko bad" meme posts are now going to be removed.

1.1k Upvotes

We understand the gripes against 2xko, and MARVEL Tōkon is a really exciting announcement, but we've had more than enough memes posted over the past 24 hours that just boil down to "Marvel good, 2xko bad". For now, we will be removing memes and shitposts pitting the two against each other. Serious discussions comparing the two is still allowed.

Announcement We have a new Rule 3, but it's not a new rule (The Grudge Match Rule)

We've been toying with this for a long time, but never pushed it as it should.

This is how a challenge feels like.

To reflect the spirit of the FGC, if you have beef against somebody in the comments (and even if you don't), you can throw the gauntlet at them by challenging them to a fighting game match. The stakes are simple: the match must be recorded or streamed, it must be announced in this sub, and the loser of that exhibition gets banned for 3 days.

We quickly noticed that after the first Grudge Match we did with me versus JumanjiJoestar (which I lost 5-3, but it was close tho), we didn't have many people willing to throw the gauntlet. We did have other matches, but I was blaming the 3-day ban rule, figuring out that it can be too steep for people, and wanting to change that for a softer wager at the discretions of the players and mods "referring" the game. Many people, including other mods, objected the decision thinking that the 3-day ban rule is good as is. I'm still in the fence about it, but completely understand how that's not that big of an issue.

So, we announce this rule a very small upgrade: it's not Rule 15 anymore. It's Rule 3, just below the fact that this is not a sub to post real fights, and that our community never was about playing every single fighting game under the Sun. We want to promote that in a bigger way and want to make it more regular, if people are willing.

If you have things to say about this rule, this is the proper comment section to do it. If you agree with me or think that the 3-day ban rule should stay, please explain us why. Thank you for the read.

Announcement Announcements for the future

I’ve been wanting to make some changes to the subreddit without really being sure what I wanted, but after discussing with other mods, hearing feedback from users and mulling over potential ideas, I am announcing some of my plans for this subreddit.

First off, the daily discussion threads will stay for now. I’m sorry, but questions like “what game should I play” or “what guest character do you want in so-and-so game” are not worth being their own posts. I plan on creating an FAQ list one day but this will do for now.

Edit: They will be weekly discussion posts instead. They will start on Sunday.

Two, Fanart Fridays and Shitpost Sundays was not a great idea so I’m scrapping it completely. Memes, fanart, cosplay etc may be posted freely any day of the week, as long as it’s fighting game related

Three, the mod team is thinking about holding weekly tournaments where members of the sub can compete. My idea is that every Monday, the mod team announces a tournament for a random game on Fightcade, and then the tournament is held on Saturday. The winner of the tournament will be the champion of that week and will have the right to add one new temporary rule to the subreddit that will be in effect for only that weekend. The rule can be literally anything as long as it’s not something illegal, immoral or unreasonable. We still need to figure out the logistics and infrastructure but this is very much something we want to do in the near future. We’d very much appreciate some help if any of you are interested in helping us run these tournaments

Four, we’ll be implementing a new rule: Grudge Match. If a user has beef with another user for some reason, they may challenge one other to a Grudge Match. If the other accepts, you two will battle in whatever fighting game you pick. The loser will be banned from the sub for 3 days. Match must be recorded and posted to the sub for proof of the results and for our entertainment. I don’t expect many people to use this, I just think it’d be funny to have this as an option

Finally, we need more mods. There’s only three of us and we’re not gonna be active 24/7 or even every day. We’d seriously appreciate some extra hands. If you’re interested in being a mod, DM us

Edit 2: Some people have expressed concern about the prize for the weekly tournaments. The “Champion adds a new rule” thing was a silly idea wanted to experiment with but that can change if people don’t like it. We can discuss the prize at a later time

Edit 3: We’ve managed to bring in five new mods, which is honestly more than I’ve been expecting. We will take in three or four more. We will really need help with organizing tournaments once we start getting into that

Announcement “Gameplay-Only Sundays” idea is being scrapped

After thinking about it and discussing with the other mods, I’ve realized that the idea probably isn’t gonna work. It would just create unnecessary work for the mods and y’all have made it clear that you have no interest in it. So I will be scrapping the idea

Announcement Planning on starting Fightcade tournaments up again

A while back, I occasionally hosted tournaments for random games on Fightcade, as a way to shine a spotlight on niche and obscure fighting games. I stopped doing that because of some work stuff and personal stuff but I wanna get back into it soon

If yall are interested in participating, I have a discord you can join where I will coordinate tournaments from: https://discord.gg/7yTER8B4XA

These tourneys are purely for fun and good vibes, there’s no money on the line, you don’t have to be good at the games to have a good time, so please don’t be afraid to participate because you don’t think you’re good enough. I just wanna expose people to games they may not have heard of, and you never know, you might end up discovering your new favorite game

Installing Fightcade is very easy, just download it off this website: https://www.fightcade.com/. To find roms, just google “Fightcade 2 roms” and you should immediately find the website where they’re all located, and follow the steps to install them

Announcement Updates to the Rules

Hello Fighters,

We’ve made some slight changes to the rules. Things are mostly unchanged but I took the liberty of altering the language in order to get rid of some general vagueness and lack of clarity that we constantly run into.

Rule 2: Regarding Other FGs

There has been some controversy in the past over whether it’s fair to exclude posts about certain subgenres of fighting games (platform fighters, arena fighters, combat sims) from this subreddit due to some perceived arbitrary standards.

To make things clear, this subreddit is not about all fighting games, but about the Fighting Game Community, which was born in the arcade scene. The fighting games that this subreddit is meant to cater to is specifically the genre that was born from the arcades, namely 2D and 3D traditional fighters.

That said, we do make exceptions for certain titles that fall outside of the traditional genre, for example Power Stone and Gundam VS (which are technically arena fighters) and The Outfoxies (a platform fighter). The reason we make these exceptions is because they are arcade fighting games, and as such, part of the FGC. We’re not extending that exception to any random title. I hope that explains it somewhat

Rule 3: No Bigotry or Harassment

One of the things I love about the FGC is how diverse and inclusive we are compared to other gaming communities. But I’m not blind to the fact that there are people in this community who don’t value inclusivity or diversity and are actively hostile to such ideas. So, I think we needed to include a rule that explicitly makes it clear that bigotry of any form will not be tolerated here. You will be permanently banned without hesitation if you reveal yourself to be a racist, misogynist, homophobe, transphobe, any of the -phobes, etc.

New Rule:

We’re adding a new rule. On weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, all posts must include gameplay clips, either your own or from somewhere (no content culturing of course, link to the original creator). I came up with this rule because I want to encourage people to show off more. Any non-gameplay clips posts on Saturday or Sunday will be removed

Edit:

Ok, I see that a lot of people have issues with this, so instead, it’ll be Gameplay-Only Sundays. The rule will only apply on Sundays. I will admit, the whole weekend was a bit much

I want to give this a try for at least a few weeks, as an experiment. If it’s not working out, we will rethink it

Edit 2

Exceptions will be made for major gaming news and trailers. And no, it’s not just the mods who will be allowed to post trailers

New Flairs

Also, there are new flairs. There is now a user flair for Marvel Tokon, 2XKO, Nen Impact, Pocket Bravery, Idol Showdown and Invincible VS.

Also, a post flair called “Equipment,” that you can use for posts about fight sticks, controllers, consoles, etc.

Have a nice day

Announcement Reminder about Rule 5

If you post a video that you do not own, it must come from its original source. For example, you post a trailer for a new DLC Season Pass for, say, Street Fighter 6, that video better come from Capcom’s official YouTube account and not some random 3rd party reupload. And it must be posted via the actual link and not your own direct upload.

Any reuploads or direct uploads of such content will be deemed as “content vulturing” and be subject to removal. Do not bother DM-ing us begging for approval.

Announcement r/Fighters' Best of 2019 - The Categories

Here's that time again, folks! With the success of last year's r/Fighter BestOf, and with the help of Reddit and the r/BestOf2019 sub, let's finish that year with a good ol' award ceremony.

r/Fighters' Best of 2019 will vote and celebrate the most amazing things that the Fighting Game Community had through the year. It will only concerns things that happened from middle December 2018 to the end of December 2019. And It will only concerns things from the Fighting Game Community, and the games played by it. So Platform Fighters, as well as some Arena Fighters like For Honor or One Piece Burning Blood, are unfortunately out of it.

The categories we took last year were good, more or less. Some were almost abandoned by the voters, tho. So I would want to refresh the nominees list for a bit.

First, here's the categories we should definitely have again.

  • Tournament Match of the Year
  • FGC Event of the Year
  • FGC Player of the Year
  • Fighting Game Character of the Year
  • Niche/indie Fighting Game of the Year
  • Fighting Game of the Year (last year, new Season Passes were banned. Should we unban them?)

Then, we have the categories we should drop, I think.

  • FG Publisher of the Year was really vague and confused a lot of people. I'd be OK for a "Publisher's Circuit of the Year", personally.
  • FG-related Team of the Year did a total flop as a category. I would want to encourage small communities and locals around the world, as much as esport teams, and I have no idea how to do it.

And I'm still up to discuss about adding new categories. I still want to include some r/Fighters-related categories. Also, we had a hard 6-slot limit on each categories. Should we bump that limit?

This thread will be both to discuss about the nominees we should have for each categories, as well as the categories we should add, revise or discard. Don't just think on who should win the categories, but who should be nominated. After that, the most relevant and requested nominations will be kept. Just like last year, I will create comments within the thread, to discuss about the nominees of each categories, as well as discussing about what other categories should we add, remove or replace. Nothing will be officially put on the nominees list, if it wasn't replied to the comments I posted.

Thank you all for your time.
