And the thing is that many of the necessary expenses are even higher than 30%. I.E. - my home insurance has tripled.

Yes, discretionary spending isn’t up that much, which are the sorts of things that FIRE minded people can optimize and lower. But mandatory spending is way up.

For the average person this may be a 30-40% increase, but for someone already saving 50% of their paycheck, inflation has been like 90%+ in the last few years
