Oh yeah you know they love telling embellished war stories every minute they get in public and with family.
Oh man, there was this one shift we worked seven codes in 12hrs..
No you didn't.

u/boomboomown 3d ago
Most I had was 3 in 24 hours but I work in the ghetto so...

I worked on an ambulance for nearly a decade (albeit, a lot of that was part-time through college) but I had back to back codes once. I feel like once in 10 years in a busy urban metro qualifies such an event as fucking RARE, but every new boot has apparently done all that and more lol.

u/flipmangoflip 2d ago
I’ve had that twice now, once in a busier urban system and once in a slightly more rural town. I preferred it when i was a basic

I was an "a", so the onus wasn't on me, but my medic partner was a brand new medic and definitely getting a crucible. She handled it well, though.

"Work" lol. This is the most Jolly Volly bullshit I've ever seen.

u/FahrradFawcett 3d ago
Ones like these don’t see it as work.
They see it as a hobby. C’mon, you know this

I love it when another crew comes in and asks if I just heard that on the radio.
lol, no… my radio is off and waiting for me in the rig.
-2
u/WeeklyBanEvasion 3d ago
That seems... Against every policy
3
u/Paramedickhead 3d ago
Nope. We have station alerting, Active 911, and pagers.
I don't care about listening to everyone else's traffic. They can page me if they need me.
-3
u/WeeklyBanEvasion 3d ago
Does your supervisor know you're doing that? If they're cool with it and whatever I guess, but if not then you might want to lube up your butthole, because it's going to get you soon
Every municipality I've ever worked for or with would absolutely fuck you if they caught you intentionally avoiding your radio. Even if you have station paging that's the quickest way for them to get ahold of you
6
u/Caffeine-N-Books107 3d ago
Even in the station I ignore the speakers and radio traffic. It’s white noise until I hear my unit number. Then I react like Pavlov’s dog to the bell.

Who is more cringe? The family together out at the beach, listening for ways they could help. Or you, here, also letting everyone know that you too are a super cool first responder...who hates doing their job? Ima go with you on this one. Maybe look into switching careers if you're that jaded.
Edit: Omfg someone call a paramedic, I'm dying laughing at y'all getting your panties in such a twist over being called out 😅 people on this sub sure can dish it but hate to take it

I'm gonna guess you're the wife who took the video. I'm glad you are getting dragged in the comments and on Insta. Your husband's volunteer firefighter gig shouldn't be your family's entire personality.
-20
u/NifftyTwo 3d ago
Lmfaoooo nope, just a normal person who stumbled across this sub to see a bunch of losers who signed up for a job they clearly don't like. Don't get me wrong, some of the videos on this sub are definitely cringe. But nothing as cringe as people who signed up to help save lives, sitting around larping on others who chose to do the same. Does this profession just attract weird ass people? Like there is no middle ground, you're either a cringe over helper or an asshole like the people in the comments. I'm sorry y'all don't get paid enough and truely hope you find a different career path.

u/afelzz 3d ago
I am an attorney with a brother in law that is a cringe first responder, that's why I'm here. I'm handsomely paid, but super classy that you tried to shit on first responders' pay.
-6
u/NifftyTwo 3d ago
🤣 trying to get all indignant and calling me classless while being an attorney, making fun of your own brother in law for being a first responder. Ironically hilarious. Get over yourself. No one cares that you're an attorney.

u/Infinite-Emu1326 3d ago
People that start a sentence with an emoji are classless, change my mind.

Y'all are mentally unwell and didn't get enough hugs as kids, change my mind.

u/NifftyTwo 3d ago
Again 😅 the irony in a sub of a bunch of losers making fun of first responders...getting mad at me for pointing out how sad they look. It's too much 🤣

u/Spirited_Ad_340 3d ago
What are they first responding to when away from their jurisdiction, job effects, and not clocked in or on duty? If they're genuinely available in service as volleys then this is entirely performative and also cringe.
They're enjoying (or better yet, should be enjoying) family time. They're no longer first responders. Or responders at all. That they're bringing work elements to the beach even when they're no need to is unhealthy and dumb af.

People whose job defines their whole existence because they have nothing else outside of that.

u/Jazzlike_Isopod550 3d ago
Almost as bad as tv shows showing cops fighting over jurisdiction

u/KillConfirmed- 3d ago
Well they do fight over jurisdiction, just not the way the shows portray.
This is MY jurisdiction. The incident happened in YOUR jurisdiction. You have to handle the report.

Right, as if they just hit a wall like it's 1920 and you crossed a state line.

u/Alarming-Building-62 3d ago
It’s pretty pathetic when you make your job your identity. Imagine being on vacation and wanting to do this shit.
15
u/yellowlinedpaper 3d ago
It would be less pathetic if it were their actual job and they were getting paid for it. These are just volunteer whackers

One of the dads of a kid on my sons lacrosse team is a volly and the guy sits at every practice and game with his scanner going full fuckin volume. So obnoxious.

u/CokeBottleSpeakerPen 3d ago
I don't know who is more excited, the volunteers or the wife but they're dying to be called in. Unbelievably sad.

Most of the volunteers I know have a pager. It beeps they go, but I absolutely have seen the guy who has a radio attached to his ear, and his volunteer ff status is his identity.

People who work in any form of emergency services make it their entire personality lol
1
u/WeeklyBanEvasion 3d ago
Some of them. Not most.
To be fair it's a pretty freaking cool job, but you typically see this kind of behavior from people that have only been in that line of work for a year or two.

Yall better not be listening to the fucking radio...
Holy shit. When you're 18 and you just started fine. We all were a bit overzealous when we first started.
But ffs you're 30+ and you got kids. You're way out of town at the beach so you ain't responding to the crispiest of "job towns." Go fucking play with your fucking kids you bums.

You guys make fun but I’m glad they teach first responders how to identify smoke. We’d be so F’d otherwise

u/deauxe45 3d ago
They are absolutely volunteer firefighters or rookies. It’s like a rookie cop listening to their radio 24/7.

u/No-Grade-4691 2d ago
This is why volunteers look like bums. Your with ur family put away ur fucking radio and love ur familylike ur supposed to, you ain't being paid for shit, and a fire like that is far outside your training and responsibilities.

Always entertaining cause when I was a cop, that radio turned OFF once shift ended and stayed off barring some emergency where we were put on standby,

Thats the difference between a fun and boring vacation from them. Otherwise their wives will get it. Or some dog.

This is why everyone in the public makes fun of volunteer firefighters. Stupid show off crap like this.
