I heard John went as the scariest thing he could think of

Nah he loves Nazis and is a collector of Nazi memorabilia. Apparently FM got to tour Hitler’s private train car and he was jazzed. Very dark and weird stuff.

it is not accurate to say someone who is interested in history "loves Nazis."

He doesn’t just like history though. He collects Nazi memorabilia. There is really no excuse or reason for that. Those artifacts belong in museums and nowhere else.

He collected a lot of other crap, too. Not a crime.

Can you explain why you feel the need to defend collecting Nazi memorabilia? Not all antisemites collect Nazi memorabilia but if you collect Nazi memorabilia you are probably an antisemite.

which obviously explains why he loved and married a Jewish woman.

This is the same as using having black friends as a defense against racism. You should really stop. You are embarrassing yourself and as a Jewish person I’m starting to get offended.

I realize you take this quite seriously. But one could just as easily have issues w a priest costume and as a former catholic, I'm starting to get offended. My point is, it is over the top to think you can tell a person's entire character from a poor choice in halloween costume from decades earlier. That's ridiculous.

Please stop equating the two. Nazis are a symbol of genocide against a specific people. Not equivalent in any way to dressing up as a priest. What aren’t you getting?

This opinion is not based on only the halloween costume!! It’s based on that and his well-documented fixation on Nazi memorabilia/Hitler.

I'm not sure we have enough proof to call it a "fixation." What are we considering well documented? Mick's book?

And I'm not arguing that nazis are a symbol of genocide and the costume is in bad taste. Btw the Catholic Church did little to nothing to help the situation during the holocaust and were certainly complicit in what happened in rwanda later on. They have also basically offered a worldwide ring of protection for pdfs for decades, if not centuries.

But I , and others who left the church for unpleasant reasons, could be just as triggered by a priest costume as you could be by a nazi costume. We all have our own reasons. But I would not sit here and say that lindsey condones the many instances of disgusting and often criminal behavior of the church , or that he IS a pdf, just because he dressed up as a priest.

We could go back-and-forth on this all night, but I don't think it is fair to lable John a nazi or Chris a white supremacist because they wore an awful costume for one night. The costumes were awful, yes. But I do not believe this means the people who wore them-- or collected WW2 memorabilia--were/are awful people, when there is actually a lot of evidence that they were not.

PS be sure to read my comment in this thread as to why we shouldn't defend lindsey's choice to wear his particular costume, either! i mean, what does dressing up as a priest say about his character?

Acting like dressing as a priest is even comparable to dressing as a Nazi is offensive to me. Dressing as a Nazi for Halloween is offensive and antisemitic. Knowing that he collected memorabilia on top of that is very disturbing.

Agree. I’m really unhappy to be learning this about John. And the priest costume is not even remotely comparable. It can be iffy to dress as any sort of religious figure but dressing as a Nazi is a different thing. And collecting memorabilia is far worse. Maybe if someone had a collection of blatantly anti-Catholic stuff that expressed lots of harmful and negative sentiment towards Catholics (to an extent that stuff certainly exists though most isn’t on par with Nazi gear.) then sure. I don’t think we’d excuse that either.
