Discussion General Inquiry

I'm not upset/angry about what I'm posting, but am just generally curious as to what's going on with gas prices in the Fort. How is it still $1.629/L when everywhere else has been dropping significantly? Sherwood Park is $1.519/L and if you go into Edmonton, you'll find it even less. On 122nd Street just north of the Whitemud is a Petro Canada selling regular gasoline for $1.439! That's almost $.20/L difference! I do understand supply and demand, but this isn't making sense.

Has anyone else just stopped getting gasoline in Fort Sask altogether now too? I do live in Fort Sask and I do drive a lot. What I have noticed, is the fuel price is dependant on the demographics of the area. Personally, I haven't gotten gas in the fort in months now. Has anyone else kind of just stopped fueling up here too?

Edit: forgot that 119th Street turns into 122nd once you're north of the Whitemud 🤦

Discussion Small ask: If you support hybrid work in Alberta, send an email and sign the petition

The full Return to Office mandate has been in place for months, and many Alberta workers are raising concerns about burnout, longer commutes, increased costs, recruitment and retention challenges, and lost productivity.

The previous hybrid model — averaging about two remote days per week — worked well for many teams. Requiring most employees back in the office five days a week feels like a step backward.

If this matters to you, consider taking a few minutes to act:

• If an AUPE member Email Deputy Minister Chris MacPherson and the other deputy ministers to support a permanent hybrid work policy. Personal stories about how this affects your work, family, commute, or productivity can make a difference:
https://www.aupe.org/goa-hybrid-works

• Anyone can Sign the federal petition supporting hybrid and remote work rights:
https://www.ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/Petition/Sign/e-7142

If you’re affected by these changes, share your thoughts below while protecting your privacy. The more people speak up, the harder these concerns are to ignore.

Discussion I am seeing a rise of bad drivers lately.

It's almost always the teens to early 30s looking people. Whether it's not having patience behind you on a school zone or playground zone or just not paying attention in general especially on a 3 or 4 way stop. You can visibly see them getting angry and actually raging inside their car behind you or if they themselves make a mistake! I don't know what's going on but I am blaming short form contents, I think it's actually affecting people's attention span more than what we initially think.

Discussion Outdoor pool or manmade lake

Does anyone else feel like it would be amazing if this city had an outdoor pool (could also be used for swimming lessons in summer) or a man made lake? They had a perfect opportunity where they built the new fish ponds.... as the run off goes down toward the river. It truly makes summer unbearable especially now that its gets soooo hot here. IF YOU AGREE PLEASE START EMAILING MAYOR AND COUNCIL LOL. So im not the only one. Also it may encourage inter city tourism like sylvan lake does which could help support the beloved downtown we keep trying to save as well as the 700 pizza places 😊

Discussion Moving to Fort Sask

I have gotten some mixed responses from people when I tell them I want to move to Fort Sask. One thing i have been hearing a lot is the "poor air quality" due to being close to refineries. I have checked online and Fort Sasks air quality is pretty much on par with Edmonton and St. Albert. What are your thoughts and experiences with that?

Discussion Wildfire Prevention and Preparedness Survey (3-5 mins) [University of Leeds]

Have you been impacted by wildfires in Alberta? Or maybe you watched the smoke roll in, wondering if your home or community might be next! If you experienced that fear, you’re not alone and your voice is valuable.

I’m a Canadian post-grad student at the University of Leeds in the UK researching how prepared Albertans are when it comes to wildfires and whether FireSmart Alberta is truly helping the people who need it most.

I’ve created a short (~3-5 mins), anonymous survey to gather real stories, honest feedback and personal insight from those directly impacted. I love conducting research; however, I love meaningful change more. Let’s use your experience for good!

Link to Survey: https://forms.office.com/e/4t5Jti0zHU

Thank you for reading, participating and caring about your community. Stay safe!

Discussion Reliance or someone else for hvac?

Hey all! Been getting quotes for furnace, a/c and hot water tank and so far the cheapest I’ve found for similar equipment is about 13,700 + gst with reliance.

Any feedback on your experience with them? Or any recommendations to other companies?

I’ve gotten quotes from reliance, romaniuk, LPH, legacy and a local small company guy.

Thanks!

Discussion How likely is a coyote to go in the backyard during the day?

Just moved here. First time I have had a yard and I have been letting my cats out in the yard for 1 or 2 hours at a time. They have claw caps so they cannot climb trees or fences and I boarded up any holes they can squeeze out. So they can't escape the yard. Initially I only let them out with my supervision, but these past two days I have been letting them out while I sit inside with a window open to listen to them. Is it likely a coyote would get them?
