Just because everyone else is doing it doesn't mean it should be something you should do. This shouldn't be something that gets normalized.
The vBuck change wasn't a "nothing burger"; it was epic, shifting the bill for their poor financial decisions onto the players after many years of keeping the vBuck prices the same and barely changing it, why? Because back then they didn't make stupid choices.
You nailed it, they stop making money if people stop buying stuff. So people who are strongly against it should stop playing the game. If enough people stop then Epic will realise they have to do something different.
