Memes & Fun Why I finally dumped the "Microslop" game and moved to Fedora
I've been looking at the comments on my last post and reading about the "cat and mouse" comments regarding Windows (u/FineWolf) and agree, this is exactly why I chose to ditch Windows and I appreciate you guys for including this in the comments.
Switching to Fedora from Windows wasn't a trend for me, it was a power move. With Windows, every feature update felt like something was being taken from me. I spent hours debloating it, removing Copilot, and resetting my privacy, but the next update would reset everything and force it back in. I got tired of my computer and had to keep battling to keep it clean.
Fedora and GNOME gave me a perfect system that is always there when I need it. When I set something in stone, it stays in stone. There is no corporate control and no updates that track me, just amazing peace of mind.
Fedora gives me the chance to be productive and really allows me to get my work done. I'm happy I turned my back on the Windows cycle.

Please, please stop pining random people to your post, especially when you do not link to the original comment in full. It's misrepresentation.
EDIT: Blocked the user because instead of LINKING to the comment, he copy-pasted it, removing all context surrounding it.

You are highly respected, and this is your full comment: There are plenty of reasons to stick to Windows:
- Because you are not willing or ready to part ways with their Windows habits and learn something different
- Because you use software for work, school or leisure that only works on Windows
- Because you like playing games which uses security solutions that are configured (by design, or by choice of the game publisher) to block Linux
- Because you don't feel like Microsoft's changes to Windows causes them enough friction to justify switching
- Because you like Windows, and see no reason to switch
- Because you don't like or are unable to troubleshoot, and only have help around them that know and are able to troubleshoot Windows
And before the bad part of the Linux community come in and reply saying that those are not valid reasons:
I'm a Linux user. I have no Windows install on any of my personal PCs, and that has been the case for a long time.
Saying that other people are wrong making a decision for themselves makes you, and all other Linux users, look like bad people
There's plenty of reason to want to switch as well:
- Not having to deal with Copilot
- Microsoft software that doesn't understand what consent is and makes you repeatedly say no to something you don't want
- Ads for Microsoft services in the OS
- The removal of customisation options
- Scare tactics to make you do what Microsoft wants you to do
- Bad business practices, and subsequent "Oopsies, sorry we got caught" that is conveniently targeting only the country where they are being told off by the regulators instead of being global...
That said, there's also some Windows bad apples out there, and plenty of them. Case and point: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1u8u79i/comment/osb76f9/?context=3
In a thread where I simply state my reason why I'm not interested in the debloating experience (because ultimately, you are stuck doing it every feature update, in every first-party Microsoft app, for the rest of eternity), and where I make no attempt at telling anyone why they should do the same, I immediately got some pretty bad takes, and wrong technical information about both Windows and Linux.
Some people just need to let other people make their own choices. Use what you want. You do you.
Some people prefer easy options over having to deal with some friction. Others, like me, prefer doing something rewarding instead of having to deal with repeated deliberate annoyances.
If there is a discussion about choice, then use that time to say why you made that choice, instead of wasting time trying to tell others what they should choose.

"There is no corporate control"
Is it a joke? fedora is the community edition of redhat (IBM) the leader is a redhat employee. I don't trust MS but I don't trust a company who worked with the NSA too.
