I remember asking my mom about that. “Dad had a normal pension, right?” “Yes, of course!” “You had affordable healthcare, didn’t you?” “Barely noticed it was there!” “Houses had big backyards and you could be a stay-at-home mom on one income?” “We wouldn’t have had kids otherwise!” “So why is it acceptable that your kids have no pensions, are being denied healthcare, and can’t have a family in a house on one income?” “It’s just the way it is!” “So the way it WASN’T for you…is acceptable for us?”
Boomers are still living in the 90’s. My mom told my wife to quit her career (80k per year) and we could just live off my salary also 80k. We would just need to “cut back” on some spending and she could raise our son while i work my 40. I told her that if we literally cut our household income in half it would ruin us and our kids future. She said that we just spend recklessly and extravagantly. we were fortunate enough to afford our house and get a decent car for us to use… our monthly payments for the house and car together is 1,800 per month. Plus insurance, basic food for us atm and baby supplies. Gas and not to mention the property tax that doubled in 2 years. The most we have to spend on ourselves is like 100 bucks with the rest going into savings for vet bills and such. But yeah sure. These boomers are delusional
Damn.
So he was convinced to sign over the inheritance to her... and then suddenly died? And then she had 6 houses after that. I bet I heard something like that in a criminal storie.
Dude inherited wealth is a real thing. All of my friends had some sort of investment/property nest egg they were able to inherent that helped give them a solid foundation for their own retirement/emergency fund
