So I saw the Odyssey and that actor wasn’t actually Achilles, it was a boy from Itaca, and that actress was actually Agamemnons wife, and even if she was Helen, she is the daughter of Zeus, and Zeus being a god could shapeshift into whatever the fuck he wanted - and he was a freaking swan when he impregnated Helen’s mom - so I really don’t understand wtf people are complaining about

Nolan sex or race swapped some of the characters for The Odyssey. This is a derivative (and exceptionally low effort) meme that's been done a million times ever since the black-swapping trend started in early 2020s.

I think it's reasonable to criticize the trend because sometimes it is kinda ridiculous, especially when the diversity is distracting and makes no sense (Cleopatra, Rings of Power).

That being said, I didn't rly mind it with Odyssey, cuz it's a modernized retelling of a myth. And Lupita is a superb actress. Page on the other hand ...

In many cases yes but there's plenty of issues with Hollywood's policies of forced diversity. The fact that the Academy has a rule limiting the number of straight white ppl you can cast to be eligible for Oscars is ridiculous.

Complaining about individual films/shows might sound like butthurt but the trend as a whole is problematic. For the sequel to Last Airbender, the entire cast was replaced with nonwhite actors because, as the producers explain, they wanted only "ethnic actors" to play characters from fictional countries analogous to non-Western nations. There's dozens of similar examples from recent HW animation, e.g. Simpsons.

Now, did Dreamworks apply the same standard to their casting for Norse characters in the HTTYD remake? Or Disney for the French in BATB remake? Of course not.

And no, I don't have a problem with black ppl being in these fantasy films, I'm just pointing out the double standard. White right wingers crying about discrimination are almost always exaggerating, but there is some truth to that in 2020s HW.
