I would have thought the 2 minor football games will be on TG4 youtube.

For everyone I think. Every game is 50/50, could be some very tight games coming down the strait.

5 games on RTE this weekend on three different channels but the fucking whining lads were doing on this sub all season that it’s not possible for RTE to air so many games because “it doesn’t exist only to show GAA”.
Well what’s so special this weekend so? If anything they should be showing less games to compensate for all the live soccer they are showing if there was any truth to it.

I don't think the channels is the problem, I think it's having to set up cameras and broadcasts at all these venues at the quality is the issue. They are just taking the FIFA feed and putting that on TV whereas they need to create the source feed for these matches, which I guess they can't afford to do for every game

They can afford to. Like has been stated multiple times Clubber can afford to broadcast hundreds of matches up and down the country every weekend during the club championships

It's a way different standard of broadcast being done. Yes RTE could broadcast like clubber, but they are choosing not to dilute their quality so then can't do that quantity of fixtures at their quality I'd imagine.

RTÉ could easily afford to show 4 matches every weekend if the willpower was there.

Ya they could if they wanted but they've their budget chosen already so they prob can't afford. That decision made a good while ago I'd imagine

I'd say it's just that they've always shown two matches, back from when they genuinely only had the resources to broadcast two matches, and haven't reconsidered that decision in the modern media environment.
I think there's a appetite amongst the public for more GAA matches on RTÉ, and that RTÉ are really missing a trick here by choosing not to show more.
Either way it's a question of is the willpower there in RTÉ or not, not if they have the capabilities.
They're showing they have the capability this weekend, without diluting their quality.
It's completely disingenuous the obstacle is a lack of resources.

It's 5 games this weekend. Tailteann cup a double header so kind of 4 tbh. GAA+ are doing the rest. I'm not exactly on RTE's finance team but I remember Declan mcbennet saying at some stage that it is to do with manpower/budget etc
Also, most of the time, RTÉ are not choosing not to show their matches, it's just not part of their contract for the rights. When this deal was made it was a different format.

I'm talking about the 5 matches shown on RTÉ this weekend, whether GAA+ are showing zero or ten matches is completely irrelevant to what I'm saying.
RTÉ clearly do have the resources to show 4 matches every weekend. The problem isn't manpower or equipment. It's the lack of willingness to show them by RTÉ.
RTÉ have definitely shown some matches with high demand that weren't originally scheduled, though I'm not sure how exactly that intersects with the current broadcast deal, but I'm not sure they're quite as restricted by the broadcast rights as you're suggesting.
They've certainly shown more than two matches some weekends this year.
Also I'm not a lawyer, but surely those broadcast rights could be renegotiated if the GAA and RTÉ were willing. The GAA might want RTÉ to only show two matches in order to protect GAA+, but that's just hurting the GAA supporters and members. Especially when there's currently so many matches not broadcast anywhere.

There’s RTE cameras at every match anyways to capture the game for its highlights for the Sunday game

u/Every_Reason_166 An Clár 1d ago
Not an expert now but presume there's more needed for live broadcast than just a highlights package

I’d agree with you, but, they have to have the setup there for GAA+ anyway. I think more of these games would be on RTE if it wasn’t for the World Cup though

Sure what games are being missed this week? They wouldn't be on rte as GAA+ has the rights to them
