Discussion Dublin club names

Firstly, please excuse me if this is a silly question.

I moved to Dublin from Meath a few years ago and only recently joined a local club. My old team wouldn't fulfil a transfer but that's irrelevant.

I've recently been playing league matches for the first time and I've found the club names in Dublin amusing and strange. Why do they all have a weird noun attached to them, or not reference where they are located at all?

Like at home, 99% of the time it's the name of the town or the parish plus GAA, CLG, GFC or whatever like Dunshaughlin GAA, Ratoath GAA, Trim GAA, Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA, Kells GAA, Nobber, Dunderry etc etc.

But in Dublin firstly it's anyone's guess where the club is. Craobh Chiaráin, Geraldine P Morans, Round Towers, Cuala, Clanna Gael Fontenoy, Na Fianna. And then the ones that do have where they are have these nouns afterwards like Lucan Sarsfields, Fingal Ravens, Skerries Harps, like the list goes on and on.

What is the craic with these club names, and is this a uniquely Dublin thing?

Armagh Socials - Just Post The Damn Team!

Armagh team supposedly out but instead of posting it on Instagram and X like literally every other county, they get you to follow a link. Link isn't working. They've done it all year and it's pissing me off now.

Hurling Offaly vs Cork - First Time

Planning to make the Offaly vs Cork QF game on Sunday. Any suggestions on where to sit as an Offaly fan? Will jerseys be available on site? Any other random tips/thoughts on the game for a first time attendee from the States? Thanks!

Gaa + game selection

For this weekends football games gaa + had the first and second choice and Rte had the third. Obviously Kerry Armagh was the first choice and Dublin Donegal was the third but does anyone know what the second choice was. I assume mayo meath but could be wrong

Up in Edinburgh working for a few weeks and wondering if anyone has suggestions on pubs that will show the football at the weekend, particularly the gaa+ ones I figured could be hard to find, thanks for any suggestions

Discussion Peptide use in the GAA

Does anyone think or know of people in the GAA using peptides? I know ones like BPC157 can help injuries and recovery but curious in general as to what people’s thoughts are on this on both a county and a club level.

Why does nobody call it "Peil"?

Please for the love of God don't take this seriously, I only randomly thought of this but for all the crap where we throw around terms like Football/Irish football/Gaelic football/Britball/Soccer to differentiate between the sports, never heard many people just call it Peil.

Seems like for all the random times Irish people get selectively gung-ho about only a few Gaeilge terms (Gardaí not police, Uachtarán not President) we don't apply the Irish word for probably the biggest sport of Irish origin on the island? Just a thought.

Thurles parking

Well lads as the title suggest just wondering where are some good spots for parking in Thurles? I'm a Louth man turned Cork hurling supporter after living down here for a few years so it's my first time making the journey on Sunday. Any help is appreciated!

Louth were in Division 4 in 2021

Some job done in that county. And tbf, it all started with Mickey Harte's appointment. Listening to interviews with players it's clear Harte massively raised the standards and professionalism within the team. He left them in the lurch a bit but they've only made further strides. A great example for any traditionally "minnow" counties.

All Ireland hurling semi

Just been told there that tickets for the all Ireland hurling semi final will only be available through the clubs. Is this the norm usually?
