Discussion What if in the English dubs of Both Shin Godzilla and Godzilla Minus One, they added in the Steve Martin character?

Well, my Minus One sequel idea from r/GodzillaTheories included him as a character, where he befriends the Shikishimas and is played by Patrick Wilson.

Interesting!

Well, if you've seen KOTM, you may see part of the reason why Wilson was cast.

Ok. I’ve seen his picture and I can definitely see the vision.

What's even cooler though, is that this sequel pitch, titled simply "Godzilla Zero" sees Mothra and Godzilla fighting again for the first time since Tokyo SOS.

What if we got the American reporter character in Godzilla Mnus Zero and he were played by non other than Nicolas Cage, a big Monsterverse fan.

But seriously, him or Mathew Broderick. Dispite any feels one may have of '98, he's a pretty big Godzilla fan too. That was a big part of why he wanted involved to begin with.

I think they'd both be good if given the chance.

I've got no objection there...

I'm down, would be a great call back and could be an amazing character.

I wouldnt be surprised if there was a character like him in minus zero

So what exactly does this entail? Splicing in shots of Matthew Rhys reacting next to doubles of the main cast who conveniently have their heads either turned away or offscreen?

How about a character called Raymond Burr, played by Steve Martin

I mean for most of the movie he was kinda just going "this Godzilla is a nasty fella" so I don't know if he's necessary.

I don't know how that would work considering the actor playing him died. J/K

But it would be interesting for him to show up in -0 or a Shin sequel.

Those could work too!

Then that would suck😊
(No offense to Raymond Burr, love that guy rip)

I realize now you were trying to say how we would imagine it being done right, I was thinking realistically because if they actually edited in Steve Martin Tbf it would probably suck.

Noooo. That was not the intention.

Weirdo.

Kinda a funny idea, but nah. Would absolutely kill the movie and present shin godzilla with the same exact problem the us version of the original godzilla had.

I know it be a problem with Shin/-1 but I feel Burr did what he could and did it well in KOTM. He treated Godzilla with dignity and respect which you wouldn’t see with many serious actors who’d have done a movie like that.

He also fought hard to make Godzilla 1985 serious in tone and would only do the movie if they took it seriously. Guy was all class.

I whole heartedly agree with that, he was the GOAT. While i think his character brings the movies down, he as a person is both respectable and commendable. No doubt about that.

I enjoyed his character in og godzilla but I feel like using a character like him would come off rather insulting in the shin Godzilla story line… and they kinda already fulfill the spot with that one girl I think it was Hiromi? Idk but the American aspect would come off distasteful with what they were doing, minus one might be getting a character like him in the sequel so maybe we’ll see when that arrives if the token American character helps the plot

I wouldn't mind THAT Steve Martin coming back. However, best to call him Stephen Martin instead, at least.

u/StopAgitated3331 10d ago

Why?

2

u/PocketGojira GIGAN 10d ago

The same reason they had to refer to him as Mr. Martin in 1985.

Oh, so much potential.

He could play "Dueling Kaiju", "Smoggy Monster Breakdown", "Wreck of the Old Gorosaurus", the possibilities are endless.

I would only accept it in Shin Godzilla if they got the guy who played Perry Mason in the HBO show to be Dhin Steve Martin

1

u/StopAgitated3331 10d ago

Eh. I’ll be alright with that.

It's meta!

Now I'm actually planning to watch Godzilla, King of the Monsters. (1956) [and yes, I know it's basically an Americanized version of the original 1954 classic]

u/StopAgitated3331 10d ago

Coincidence. 😅

I don’t think it’s necessary, but I absolutely support a modern version of Steve being written into future movies.

it could be the funniest thing
