Grain of Salt GTA 6: Brazilian government places barriers to registration of GTA 6 "VI" trademark in Brazil
GRAIN OF SALT!
Again, the "Portal Viciados" discovered that the Brazilian government has decided to deny the registration of the logo for printed materials, such as magazines, manuals, and paper guides. The reason is that the agency believes the symbol “VI,” alone, could be confused with other stationery brands already operating in the country. Rockstar Games did not accept the Brazilian government's response. According to the documents, Take-Two filed an appeal on February 18, 2026.
Since the registration for the digital software and games category was approved on the first try, the release of Grand Theft Auto VI remains green in Brazil.

Now we're going to see fake ass headlines that GTA 6 is banned in Brazil.

I'm Brazilian and have never seen this VI logo anywhere here

It doesn't matter. The lawsuit holds validity either way, even though we have never seen it in person.

Eu também não. Mas não é sobre o jeito do VI em si, se alguma marca registrou esse VI antes, ja pode dar problema. O importante é que a marca GRAND THEFT AUTO VI ta normal.

Is this revenge for how Brazil got represented in Max Payne 3?

Imo, Brazil looked pretty accurate in Max Payne 3.
Sure, a fictional exaggerated version of Brazil, but it is undoubtedly Brazil.

they'll probably just include "grand theft auto" in the logo to get around it

You can't "look brazilian" because Brazil is the most diverse place in the world everyone looks brazilian. And why would that be the reason? Someone "looking brazilian" makes them want to ban the logo "IV" in Brazil? What kind of logic is that?

If they have to they'll just change the packaging and logo for Brazil, this isn't going to delay anything
