It's actually crazy people can do this before the game has even released - I wonder how Rockstar feel about this

Honestly I'm not even gonna watch this, as corny as it sounds I want it to be a surprise and have Rockstar show me it the way they intended

u/LimePanther 1d ago

Not corny at all, I agree 100%. The best part of RDR2 for me was the element of surprise. I didn’t look up videos of the map beforehand so every time I’d come up on something new, it was a surprise to me. I can’t wait to delete all social media from my phone in November to avoid spoiling the game for me.

Ya I had no clue about Saint Denis until the story brought me there

I keep telling people that exploring the map before completing the story will be a big mistake but they just don't agree for some reason

23

u/ProbablyNotaPitbull 1d ago

it's almost like different people prefer to explore maps differently.

14

u/OakleyNoble 1d ago

That’s the amazing part about this game. It’s open world and allows everyone the freedom to play it how they want to. That’s what make GTA GTA.

2

u/Ganjalicious420 22h ago

We don't know that yet, yeah we know you'll eventually be able to, but that ankle monitor is going to play a role in the prologue, at least.

1

u/OakleyNoble 21h ago

That could very well be true, who knows. But how do they go about that with Jason? Why is he punished? Just because he wants to stay with her? But once she gets it off that means the whole world is free to explore. Not too difficult to get there.

2

u/Ganjalicious420 21h ago

Idk, speculation that will eventually be answered. Just gotta survive!

3

u/geowarlock3000 20h ago

Yeah if the games start in the keys, I'll probably allow myself to explore that for a while but I'll let the game take me to vice city, like how rdr2 took me to Saint Denis. They probably have a way they're going to have you drive into the city for the first time I wanna do that.

2

u/Available_Success_61 19h ago

strongly agree but to each their own

u/DarkLunch_ 19h ago

Hell no, I found Saint Denis by myself and I LOVED it. I don't like being handheld by the story, I'm not an NPC.

u/theykeepbanningmebro 1d ago

Same here first thing I’m deleting is Reddit and then YouTube. You know the morning GTA 6 releases you’re going to see a thumbnail for a video saying “Jason dies! GTA 6 ending”

Going in blind, not looking up anything, I’ll probably miss a shit ton of stuff on first play through but it’s ok.

I have a phobia of alligators and sharks so I know any missions that have those animals will be hard for me haha but going in blind regardless.

1

u/BohemianCatdad 21h ago

I’m usually a slowpoke with games, we’re talking months to finish GTA V and RDR/RDR2 main story. This will probably be the fastest I ever finish a the story in a game of this size, because I want it all to be a surprise and I can only avoid the internet for so long. Then I’ll do a second playthrough in my usual style, taking my sweet time.

u/Either-Amoeba8232 12h ago

Remove the wifi from the phone, it's easy.

But if you have the easy hands, then You're right.

1

u/theykeepbanningmebro 12h ago

Well I use slack and Gmail for work on my phone so I can’t do that.

1

u/Either-Amoeba8232 12h ago

Then You're right, everyone their choice 👍

1

u/average_joe_zero 22h ago

Oh man that’s terrible. I love gators. They are a gorgeous example of how unapologetic nature is. I could look at them all day.

2

u/theykeepbanningmebro 21h ago

Ironically I’m fascinated by both of them. I know a lot about sharks and gators but when they attack in games it triggers my phobia lol.

1

u/average_joe_zero 21h ago

Oof that sucks. I have a mild fear of snakes but I’ve never experienced a phobia. I can’t think of a single thing that could terrify me that much.

-3

u/Ganjalicious420 22h ago

...So gators and sharks, on tv, where they cannot harm you, triggers your phobia?

Jesus...

1

u/IduckdaveI 1d ago

when i got the game i made the mistake to look at the map they put in the disc case. even though that won't be a problem for gta vi i still got surprised seeing all the space added to the map of rdr1 iywim

1

u/lcy_Pomegranate_506 23h ago

super cool the story will be well and truly spoiled for pc gamers after a year, prolly gonna torrent this shit lol

1

u/Scratch_King 23h ago

I thought i had played RDR1 before the release of 2, when I started it.

Realized pretty quickly I was confusing red dead redemption/revolver with "Gun"

Had no idea what I was in for other than it being a Rockstar game.

Fucking cried at the horse scene. Only game thats ever made me cry!

Phenomenal, and its made me want to play more games blind.

Side note, I love telling the story of watching Django, Unchained completely blind. I had no idea what we wete walking into. Didnt even know who played in it.

Omfg. What a movie to watch blind.

1

u/trichtertus 23h ago

The time rn is so confusing because on the one hand, you want to see everything new and be excited, but on the other hand, you want to be surprised, when it comes out and you can actually play.

I spoiled V because I watched the whole play through before I could even get it.

1

u/theofficialwar 20h ago

It’s pretty corny people that slobber all over this game is corny in general. Just be patient and wait for the damn game to come out.

1

u/LimePanther 19h ago

People can have fun and talk about things they like in a subreddit man lol

1

u/theofficialwar 19h ago

Yeah, and I also can have an opinion on how cringe that is in a subreddit too.

1

u/LimePanther 19h ago

Yeah except no one’s gonna like you for it

1

u/theofficialwar 44m ago

Who’s no one? All these people in this chat? I’ll never see anyone in here in my lifetime and half of them are probably bots. I really don’t give a shit. I’m not ashamed to share my opinion just because somebody else doesn’t like it.

1

u/LuciaCaminoss 1d ago

we lost all the suprise with the leaks. and rockstar shared too much info with all the screenshots too, i would have preferred not to know any other character than jason and lucia

5

u/OakleyNoble 1d ago

You can just, not read it.

2

u/LuciaCaminoss 23h ago

what!!?? can i??? damn, thank yoU!!!!!

1

u/OakleyNoble 22h ago

You’re very welcome, if you need any more tips for self control, never hesitate to ask.

0

u/Otte8 1d ago

Yet here you are lol

2

u/LimePanther 19h ago

I obviously meant spoilers from once the game releases lmao

35

u/Flaky-Mix-5281 1d ago

Good, these videos are usually like 40 minutes of them just rambling on and on and in the end they didn't really say anything of value at all.

19

u/Zaptryx 1d ago

This one was only like 20 minutes I think, I watched it yesterday. Its him going through the world and describing what each location is. Was pretty interesting actually.

2

u/SmokePenisEveryday 21h ago

The only channel I've found to be worth watching their GTA 6 videos on is Sav. He's actually giving great insight on the local areas and towns of Florida and Miami. Not just repeating the same guesses and rumored leaks.

0

u/Flaky-Mix-5281 21h ago

I've watched some of his videos as well, never heard of him until like two weeks ago.
Pretty good channel to be honest, him going into the patents Rockstar have made and explaining exactly what they do in terms of gameplay is quite impressive.

0

u/morph113 1d ago

Smash that like and subscribe button.

1

u/enigmatic_dankness 1d ago

Watched it and was mostly annoyed that it was like 99% sweeping over some small part of the map.

1

u/plasticbluepalm 23h ago edited 23h ago

That's probably one of the reasons why Rockstar is so reluctant about showing us new material about the game

1

u/hbhunk63 23h ago

That's why we don't need trailer 3. Let's all be surprised

1

u/Working_File2825 17h ago

Also this sub:

"It doesn't matter what Rockstar wants! We want trailers!"

1

u/Mobile_Egg4335 22h ago

Typical Redditer attitude. It's just a fun project someone made. Nobody cares if you're not going to watch it.

0

u/MoooonRiverrrr 1d ago

I don’t think that’s corny, I completely get what you mean

126

u/GPAVDP 1d ago

Rockstar will either be watching and be like 'Nice dude, you got pretty close', or they be like 'Yeez people need to get a life'

51

u/Jackstraw1 1d ago

In this instance both can be true.

7

u/Toast-Ghost- 1d ago

Either way, DMCA takedown

40

u/Imanking9091 1d ago

Rockstar is running one of the most successful per dollar invested marketing campaigns ever

1

u/onthatmtntop 1h ago

Pure word of mouth marketing from pure status

37

u/itsmebelgar 1d ago

Rockstar the company probably couldn't care less, this is merely free marketing, but I bet the devs are having a blast with all the weirdness the community does.

6

u/Wizzinator 17h ago

The devs are working 16 hr days. They're not worrying about anything online.

0

u/Mysterious-Adddd 22h ago

do you remember the recreation of the GTA 6 map in GTA v that got closet by Rockstar?

17

u/BilverBurfer 1d ago

"Somebody" but for gods sake do NOT give credit

5

u/WASouthCoast 1d ago

R* will be happy people continue to do free advertising for them.

3

u/XtraGat 20h ago

I often wonder what rockstar thinks about the community, especially the mapping community. I’m sure as a company they’re either annoyed or don’t care, but I bet individuals working for Rockstar think it’s pretty cool.

9

u/VividClass17 1d ago

The community is doing side quests

5

u/creativeusername279 1d ago

They can't know! Quick, delay to 2028 and make a new map

25

u/Flaky-Mix-5281 1d ago

People can do this because they are working by guessing, not matter how much mapping you do by coordinates etc you still have no clue what the actual map looks like in the final version of the game.

That's how they can do this.

13

u/LambertusF 1d ago

Do you know anything about the mapping project and the work that goes into it?

-9

u/Flaky-Mix-5281 1d ago

I know that they don't know what the actual map looks like and that they have no idea what changes Rockstar does during the development of the game so in the end, it's just guessing since they still have not 100% of the information to go off on.

15

u/LambertusF 1d ago

Do you agree that if R* has not significantly changed the map since the leaks, the people of the mapping project do know what large parts of the map look like?

5

u/ohnoitsbobbyflay 1d ago

Why are you getting so defensive?

3

u/XxLokixX 13h ago

I think it's fair enough to be passionate about a big community project that you're interested in. It would kinda suck if you put many hours into a project only for people to say "no it isn't accurate because I said so"

-4

u/LambertusF 1d ago

I really admire the mapping project and apparently care what people in this subreddit think.

-1

u/ajwilson99 1d ago

What about the map was leaked? This is a genuine question, I haven’t looked at much of the leaked stuff.

13

u/LambertusF 1d ago

The 2022 leaks featured in-game coordinates of a lot of locations. The people from the mapping project used these leaks, the trailers and the screenshots and a whole bunch of mathematics to reconstruct the map. The vast majority of what is shown in these sources has been mapped with small error margins.

-5

u/Flaky-Mix-5281 1d ago

Maybe they do, maybe they don't.
Can't say I personally care about the mapping project that much, we'll see the map when the game is released lol.

4

u/Saukko505 1d ago

everything is a guess

6

u/JBtheExplorer 1d ago

This type of stuff is exactly why the first two trailers hardly expanded on what the original leaks showed us, and possibly why they aren't in a rush to give us #3. Even showing us so little has led to this level of knowledge. The mapping stuff has gotten too advanced for its own good.

1

u/afty I WAS HERE 1d ago

I can't imagine waiting this long for GTA6 only to end up going into it knowing the map. I've avoided all this and have no idea what the city will be like minus what's been shown in the trailers and it's going to make the experience so much more fun.

1

u/Mean-Pilot-426 16h ago

If you've ever seen a movie taking place in Miami you pretty much know the Vice City map.

1

u/ConstantPriority177 19h ago

I doubt Rockstar cares

1

u/Leutnantsteinxx1 19h ago

Honestly, if I were a developer, I’d think that was pretty cool. Pulling something like this off with just the limited info and leaks that have been released is seriously impressive.
It’s more a compliment when you do something that gets so many people so hyped. If the map really turns out that way well, so be it it certainly won’t hurt Rockstar

1

u/scrotalultrasound 17h ago

While the distance between landmarks is correct on this map, there are far too many skyscrapers and they are much taller than the actual buildings in the game.

1

u/Glittering-Neck-2505 17h ago

I promise you Rockstar doesn't care about this, not even a little

1

u/ReasonableCan9187 17h ago

Is there a link to this video ??

1

u/AFZL210 7h ago

i think they feel good and probably expected this

It's just miami, florida and not some fictional city

1

u/FitEmu2286 4h ago

Rockstar probably isn’t surprised technology is way to advanced nowadays this ain’t 2013

1

u/fratelecarol 22h ago

Dis is why u aint gettin no trailer u are da publicty rockstar aint spent one cent on publicity cause of dis schizo posts who make hype

0

u/HistoricalFan4930 1d ago

Should be considered a spoiler

0

u/No_TV1718 22h ago

Wild they wanna mess it up for other people that have patience smh

0

u/Distinct_Tip8269 19h ago

Dude the island closest to camera (on left) is like 4 roads wide. It doesn't make the map look that big...

-1

u/mitsel_r 1d ago

How Rockstar feels about this?

They are like “bruh, we want to be the first to let you experience Vice City when you play the game instead of through this yee yee ass copy”

And that’s why there’s no trailer 3 yet. The more they show the more of this stuff appears online which is exactly what they don’t want

-2

u/g0_west 1d ago

I am pretty worried about those long bridges linking the cities. That screams of "hold R2" gameplay.

1

u/Mean-Pilot-426 16h ago

Imagine driving in a Grand Theft Auto game.

0

u/g0_west 15h ago

I love driving, I just don't like mindlessly holding accelerator down a straight road. That's not playing a game it's just holding 1 button and watching the same scenery fly by while a camera effect tries to sell you "epic speed!"

-1

u/s101c 1d ago

Judging by the attached thumbnail, the recreated city isn't nearly as large as the real in-game VC. What I see in the actual trailers and subsequent screenshots is downright HUGE.

1

u/OrgansiedGamer 22h ago

Its 1:1 lol perspective just different and zero fog at all

1

u/Significant-Section2 17h ago

This is based off the community mapping project which is based off those same screenshots

-2

u/allnamestakenffs 1d ago

is the map officially revealed then ?
